Sensor Simulation and position calibration for the CMS pixel detector

In this paper a detailed simulation of irradiated pixel sensors was used to investigate the effects of radiation damage on charge sharing and position determination. The simulation implements a model of radiation damage by including two defect levels with opposite charge states and trapping of charge carriers. We show that charge sharing functions extracted from the simulation can be parameterized as a function of the inter-pixel position and used to improve the position determination. For sensors irradiated to Phi=5.9x10^14 n/cm^2 a position resolution below 15 um can be achieved after calibration.Comment: Presented at the 14th Int. To this end, having multiple controllers improves resilience and distributes network control overhead. However, when there is a disruption in the control plane, a rapid and performant controller-switch assignment is critical, which is a challenging technical question. In this work, we propose a proactive switch assignment approach in case of controller failures using a genetic algorithm based heuristic that considers controller load distribution, reassignment cost and probability of failure. Moreover, we compare the performance of our scheme with random and greedy algorithms. Experiment results show that our proposed PREFCP framework has better performance in terms of probability of failure and controller load distributio

Thesis (Master)--Izmir Institute of Technology, Physics, Izmir, 2009Includes bibliographical references (leaves: 57-60)Text in English; Abstract:Turkish and Englishxi, 60 leavesIn this thesis, magnetic dead layer formation at the interfaces of the sputtered Ni80Fe20 thin films has been investigated experimentally. Different insulators such as Ta2O5, Al2O3 and metallic Ta thin films have been deposited as seed and cap layers to determine the MDL formation at the interface of Ni80Fe20. The magnetization of samples has been probed by Vibrating sample magnetometry and X-ray reflectivity measurements have been carried out to investigate the thickness and roughness of the interlayers. Ta films cause the most MDL formation when grown as seed as well as cap layer. It has been observed that the thickness of MDL is strongly temperature dependent. MDL thickness decreases for all trilayers deposited except for Ta2O5/Ni80Fe20/Ta2O5 when they are exposed to 300 .C annealing temperature. Further annealing at 500 .C causes an interdiffusion between the layers and the thickness of the MDL increases. According to XRR measurements, the thickness of the inter alloy layers between the Ni80Fe20 and its adjacent layers is consistent with the thickness of magnetic dead layer calculated from Liebermann equation. MDL calculations reveal that SiO2/Ta/Ni80Fe20/Al2O3 multilayer has the lowest MDL thickness therefore might be a possible candidate to be used in spin valve structures

An R-module M is called strongly noncosingular if it has no nonzero Rad-small (cosingular) homomorphic image in the sense of Harada. It is proven that (1) an R-module M is strongly noncosingular if and only if M is coatomic and noncosingular; (2) a right perfect ring R is Artinian hereditary serial if and only if the class of injective modules coincides with the class of (strongly) noncosingular R-modules; (3) absolutely coneat modules are strongly noncosingular if and only if R is a right max ring and injective modules are strongly noncosingular; (4) a commutative ring R is semisimple if and only if the class of injective modules coincides with the class of strongly noncosingular R-modules

Estimation of Reduced Order Equivalent Circuit Model Parameters of Batteries from Noisy Current and Voltage Measurements

    Get PDF
Identification of reduced order equivalent circuit battery model from current and voltage measurements allows modeling, classification and monitoring of batteries, and these tasks are very essential for battery management systems. This study presents a theoretical study to investigate performance of computer-aided identification of the reduced order equivalent circuit battery model from noisy current and voltage measurement data. The battery model is expressed in the form of fractional order differential equation and time domain numerical solution of this model is numerically calculated according to Grünwald-Letnikov definition of fractional-order derivative. Paper demonstrates an application of this numerical solution so that it can fit noisy current and voltage measurement data, and thus parameters of the equivalent circuit battery model can be estimated. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) method is used to solve this model fitting problem. Performance of the parameter estimation method is investigated for various noise levels of the synthetically generated current and voltage profiles

    Anticholinesterases

Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) are known serine hydrolase enzymes responsible for the hydrolysis of acetylcholine (ACh). Although the role of AChE in cholinergic transmission is well known, the role of BChE has not been elucidated sufficiently. The hydrolysis of acetylcholine in the synaptic healthy brain cells is mainly carried out by AChE; it is accepted that the contribution to the hydrolysis of BChE is very low, but both AChE and BChE are known to play an active role in neuronal development and cholinergic transmission. Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a muscle disease characterized by weakness in skeletal muscles and rapid fatigue. Anticholinesterases, which are not only related to the immune origin of the disease but also have only symptomatic benefit, have an indispensable role in the treatment of MG. Pyridostigmine, distigmine, neostigmine, and ambenonium are the standard anticholinesterase drugs used in the symptomatic treatment of MG. All of these compounds may increase the response of the myasthenic muscle to recurrent nerve impulses, primarily by protecting the endogenous ACh
