An authorization policy management framework for dynamic medical data sharing

In this paper, we propose a novel feature reduction approach to group words hierarchically into clusters which can then be used as new features for document classification. Initially, each word constitutes a cluster. We calculate the mutual confidence between any two different words. The pair of clusters containing the two words with the highest mutual confidence are combined into a new cluster. This process of merging is iterated until all the mutual confidences between the un-processed pair of words are smaller than a predefined threshold or only one cluster exists. In this way, a hierarchy of word clusters is obtained. The user can decide the clusters, from a certain level, to be used as new features for document classification. Experimental results have shown that our method can perform better than other methods.<br /

Distributed and adaptive location identification system for mobile devices

Indoor location identification and navigation need to be as simple, seamless, and ubiquitous as its outdoor GPS-based counterpart is. It would be of great convenience to the mobile user to be able to continue navigating seamlessly as he or she moves from a GPS-clear outdoor environment into an indoor environment or a GPS-obstructed outdoor environment such as a tunnel or forest. Existing infrastructure-based indoor localization systems lack such capability, on top of potentially facing several critical technical challenges such as increased cost of installation, centralization, lack of reliability, poor localization accuracy, poor adaptation to the dynamics of the surrounding environment, latency, system-level and computational complexities, repetitive labor-intensive parameter tuning, and user privacy. To this end, this paper presents a novel mechanism with the potential to overcome most (if not all) of the abovementioned challenges. The proposed mechanism is simple, distributed, adaptive, collaborative, and cost-effective. Based on the proposed algorithm, a mobile blind device can potentially utilize, as GPS-like reference nodes, either in-range location-aware compatible mobile devices or preinstalled low-cost infrastructure-less location-aware beacon nodes. The proposed approach is model-based and calibration-free that uses the received signal strength to periodically and collaboratively measure and update the radio frequency characteristics of the operating environment to estimate the distances to the reference nodes. Trilateration is then used by the blind device to identify its own location, similar to that used in the GPS-based system. Simulation and empirical testing ascertained that the proposed approach can potentially be the core of future indoor and GPS-obstructed environments

Current study aimed at examining customers' intention to use online booking applications that are developed and promoted by airlines in Kuwait through the year 2019. A convenient sample of (585) individuals was chosen to be the main sample of study. After the distribution process a total of (500) properly filled questionnaire were retrieved giving an indication of 85.4% response rate. The questionnaire consisted of two main sections, the first took into perspective the demographic variables of respondents (age, gender, qualifications, computer literacy), while the other section consisted of statements related to the independent variable (Site Features, Information, Accessibility, Communication, Reliability, Trust, Responsiveness, and Personalization). Results of study indicated that website features and trust are the most important quality indicators that influence customers' intention to use e-ticketing. Study recommended to give extra attention to website designs and features I terms to keep it simple and rich at the same time. In addition to that, it is important to keep clients informed regarding the degree of security that the website enjoys, as it is one of the most important aspects in increasing individuals' intention to use an e-service of any kind. Based on the Resource-Based View (RBV) literature, this study aims at developing and imple-menting a novel and comprehensive model so as to measure the effect of CRM resources on CRM capabilities and the effect of the latter on business performance. CRM resources are de-fined as infrastructural CRM resources (i.e. technological resources, human resources, and or-ganizational resources), and cultural CRM resources (i.e. customer orientation, learning orien-tation, and result orientation). CRM capabilities are measured through an organization’s cus-tomer interaction capability, customer relationship upgrading capability, and customer win-back capability. As for performance, this study measures business performance comprehensively from financial and marketing perspectives. Although the results indicate that CRM infrastruc-tural resources has a positive and direct effect on CRM capabilities, the effect of customer orien-tation culture and learning orientation culture on CRM capabilities was significantly stronger. Further, the results indicate the CRM capabilities significantly and positively affect business per-formance from marketing and financial standpoints. However, the effect of CRM capabilities on marketing performance was found to be stronger than effect on financial performance and mar-keting performance was found to partially mediate the relationship between CRM capabilities and financial performance

This study aimed to examine the factors affecting tourist’s satisfaction of Jordan as a tourism destination. A Convenience sample of 500 tourists was selected from those who visited different Jordanian places. They asked to answer a set-scale questionnaire that measure tourist expectation and his/her perception toward destination image, emotional involvement, perceived outcome, self image and his satisfaction. Findings of the study indicated that Perceived outcomes, Jordan image and the emotional involvement had a significant impact on the tourists’satisfaction/ dissatisfaction. While self image, and perceived expectations had no influence. Furthermore, findings indicated that tourist’s satisfaction levels do not change according to gender, martial status, and education levels. But with different nationalities, ages, and monthly income the tourists had different level of satisfaction. Finally, many recommendations were recommended as follows: 1- Giving more attention to the Gulf of Aqaba and Dead Sea beaches and work on developing suitable protection and maintenance programs. 2 - Focusing on the development of promotional programs which aim to inform tourist about different festivals in Jordan. Also, spreading the festivals to all seasons of the year. 3- Increasing co-operation between tourism organizations in Jordan and other Arab countries in order to develop a good package of tourism programs at competitive prices. 4- Focusing on exploring new Foreign and Arab markets to attract tourists to visit Jordan

    Islam and International Relations

    Get PDF
This thesis deals mainly with the role of Islam in international relations, which is based on the Qur'an (the revealed book) and the Sunnah (prophetic tradition). The study has used the analytical approach and the interdisciplinary approach to examine and investigate Islamic international relations theories in an attempt to demonstrate that they offer a practical alternative to resolve crises in international relations. This thesis highlights the Islamic alternative in dealing with the major issues in the world today, namely peace, security, balance of power, and co-operation among nations. The thesis, therefore, outlines certain concepts and themes which examine and explore the actual and potential relevance of Islamic law (Shariah) in relation to these issues. The main findings of the thesis include that Islam can indeed play a positive role in the field of international relations and that peace is the role and war the exception in most of the theories of Islamic international relations based on the Qur'an and the Sunnah. Also, the Islamic theory of international relations provides a valuable framework of general application for international order. The concept of community (Ummah( is the most important factor which defines the function of the Islamic state

The Role of Competitive Intelligence Practices for Achieving Competitive Advantage in the Higher Education Sector in the MENA Region

    Get PDF
The article aims to conduct a systematic review to gather insights and evidence in the developing countries, mainly in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, to examine the role of competitive intelligence practises to achieve competitiveness, focusing more on the higher education sector. A Systematic Literature Review research approach was used to conduct this study, and thematic extraction was used to collect and analyse the respective secondary data, which is widely used and suggested in many studies. The researcher relied on key theories: research-based view, stakeholder theory, and competitive theory. The findings showed that the most common issues in Higher Education in the MENA region associated with competitive intelligence practice are technological challenges, lack of motivation and effective training, poor infrastructure, and low capacity with inadequate formal support. The findings reveal a lack of focus on higher education institutions. This study recommends that universities to develop professional training plans, shift from traditional structures, identify key barriers, incorporate cost control, conduct new research, and form partnerships with successful private universities to develop competitive intelligence systems
