The students of the Faculty of Mass Communication at the University of Zarqa, Jordan, are exposed to Facebook to a high degree, with an arithmetic average of 2.42, and the study showed that women are one of the most prominent groups exposed to harassment through Facebook from the point of view of the study sample, with an average of 3.76. The study revealed that the most prominent form of harassment is (threat and blackmail), which came in first place with an arithmetic average of 4.44, and the study showed that the most prominent goal of harassment is (sexual desires), where the arithmetic average of it reached 432

I (D,B)- supra pre maps via supra topological ordered spaces

Sayed [19] defined a supra -open set and studied its basic properties. In this work, we introduce various forms of supra continuous (supra open, supra closed, supra homeomorphism) maps in supra topological ordered spaces by using the notions of supra -open sets and increasing (decreasing, balancing) sets. We illustrate the relationships among these maps with the help of examples. Moreover, we investigate under what conditions these maps preserve some separation axioms between supra topological ordered spaces

Lean Implementation Frameworks:The Challenges for SMEs

    Get PDF
Implementation of lean manufacturing in any type of organizations can bring many benefits, such as reducing waste and improving operating efficiency. However, lean implementation is not a straightforward process. Although a number of frameworks have been presented, still many companies find it difficult to implement lean. Furthermore, most of these roadmaps are for large manufacturing companies, and not for small and medium enterprises. Unfortunately, there is not a recipe that if used can guarantee a successful implementation. Furthermore, unsuccessful implementation can have a great impact on organization's resources, but even more importantly, affect employees and their confidence in lean philosophy. In the present paper, the most prominent lean implementation frameworks will be discussed, under the prism of the needs of SMEs. The challenges for the SMEs in their lean journey are discussed

The Timeliness and Extent of Disclosure of Corporate Interim Financial Reporting in Jordan

This study examines interim financial reporting in Jordan, and it involves two main phases. First, the study undertook a questionnaire survey to seek the perceptions of users regarding the use, usefulness, the information deemed necessary to be disclosed in the interim financial reports, and other issues surrounding interim financial reporting. Second, this study analyzed the contents of half-yearly financial reports to assess their quality in terms of the extent of disclosure and timeliness. These qualities are subsequently tested for association with board of directors characteristics (namely board composition, board size, and board leadership structure), ownership structure (namely foreign ownership, government ownership, and the number of shareholders), and attributes of companies (namely size, profitability, growth, age, leverage, audit firm size, and market listing status). The findings reveal that interim financial reports are used, usell, and the second most important source of information for investors, after annual reports. Because of this, investors express their desire for improved interim financial report in terms of disclosure and timeliness. In addition, the introduction of quarterly financial report is welcomed by investors. Although compliance with mandatory disclosures and reporting deadlines is high, more improvements could be made. As far as the quality of disclosure is concerned, companies appear to provide a moderate level of disclosure. With respect to timeliness, there are tendencies for companies to take as long as they are allowed to issue the interim financial reports. Consistent with most studies, this study reveals that: (i) the extent of disclosure is positively associated with company growth and board size; (ii) compliance with allowable financial reporting lag is positively related to the foreign ownership and profitability, and (iii) financial reporting lag is negatively related to profitability and age, but positively related to the leverage of a company. This implies that companies with a relatively higher percentage of shares owned by foreigners and are more profitable are more likely to comply with the requirement to publish within one month. The findings also indicate that companies that are more profitable, older, and have lower leverage are more likely take a shorter time to publish their half-yearly financial reports. The findings provide some input to users, preparers, and policy makers into the current practice of reporting, and for future regulations on interim financial reporting. In addition, the present study opens up avenues for more studies on interim frnancial reporting not only in Jordan, but also in other countries where this area of study is lacking. Furthermore, it opens up opportunities and provides avenues for more in-depth research related to interim financial reporting

This study examines the impact of Off-Balance Sheet Activities (OBS) on the banking risk and revenue growth for Jordanian commercial banks. This study relied on a sample of 13 commercial banks, listed on the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) during the period 2010-2014.This study is determining the association between off-balance Sheet Activities (OBS) as an independent variable and banking risk (namely; the credit risk, capital adequacy risk, market risk, liquidity risk, leverage risk), and revenue growth as a dependent variables . For testing the hypotheses of the study, the researchers used the descriptive analysis and the regression analysis. The results of the study provides an evidence that there is a significant association between the Off-Balance Sheet Activities and the capital adequacy risks, market risks, liquidity risks and revenue growth, that the relationships are negative for capital adequacy risk, and positive for market risk, liquidity risk and revenue growth. No significant association was evidenced between the Off-Balance Sheet Activities and credit risk and leverage risk. Keywords: Off-Balance Sheet Activities (OBS), Banking Risks, Revenue Growth, Jordanian Commercial Bank

© 2019, © 2019 Association for Information Technology in Teacher Education. The well-known Syrian crisis has made it very challenging for thousands of Syrian children to have access to education. In this article, the authors propose a framework for designing a digital education platform to allow children inside Syria as well as in the refugee camps in bordering countries to have access to education. The authors start by looking at the efforts performed in the field of education in conflict-affected regions, and they extract from them the lessons learned and recommendations. They provide four main characteristics of war impacting children’s education: (1) insecurity, (2) instability, (3) lack of resources, and (4) lack of adult supervision. They then use these four characteristics, along with the extracted recommendations, as the grounds for drafting three design considerations for the implementation of a digital education platform. The three design considerations are: supervised self-directed learning method, context-aware education and children-oriented design. Finally, the authors use these design considerations to provide design recommendations for the four main elements of a digital education platform: hardware, software, curriculum and supporting services. They conclude by discussing the validity of the digital platform, its implementation feasibility, and challenges facing the implementation
