Differences in ASR Experiments Between the Short and Long Term Test Methods
The main objective of this study is to compare the effect of alkali-silica on concrete from a previous experiment by Stanton in the forties of the last century, which was the basis for researchers to investigate and study the extent of alkali-silica reaction against concrete, by various methods for testing the reaction of alkali-silica. From that point on, scientists have tried to develop testing techniques that can be used quicker to detect the effect of alkali-silica on concrete, and 16 alkali-silica testing methods have been highlighted in this study both in short and long-term terms. These methods have been chosen at random but the chronology and most of their details, how they have been performed, the materials used in this test, etc. have been determined. In the same way, the results of the test methods were explained and the available studies, research, and specifications were followed. Finally, the selected test methods have been compared and the parameters used to compare the test methods were as follows: duration, temperature, specimen size, mix type, used materials, admixtures, water/cement ratio, and expansion limit. The comparison took three forms, the first was a comparison between short-term methods alone and the second was a comparison between long-term methods alone, while the latter was between the two method types using standard concrete practices for civil work structures (EM 1110-2-2000)
Inverting Gravity Data to Density and Velocity Models for Selected Area in Southwestern Iraq
The gravity method is a measurement of relatively noticeable variations in the Earth’s gravitational field caused by lateral variations in rock's density. In the current research, a new technique is applied on the previous Bouguer map of gravity surveys (conducted from 1940–1950) of the last century, by selecting certain areas in the South-Western desert of Iraqi-territory within the provinces' administrative boundary of Najaf and Anbar. Depending on the theory of gravity inversion where gravity values could be reflected to density-contrast variations with the depths; so, gravity data inversion can be utilized to calculate the models of density and velocity from four selected depth-slices 9.63 Km, 1.1 Km, 0.682 Km and 0.407 Km. The depths were selected using the power spectrum analysis technique of gravity data. Gravity data are inverted based on gravitational anomalies for each depth slice or level and the extracted equivalent depth data from available wells using a connection curve between densities and velocities, which were mostly compatible with Nafe and Drake's standard curve. The inverted gravity data images highlight the behavior of anomalies/structures in the model and domain of density/velocity, which can be utilized in the processing of the recorded seismic data and time to depth conversion, in parallel with available well's data information within the intended study area of South-Western Iraq
in Vitro Antimycotic Activity of Eucalyptus Camaldulensis Extract Against Trichophyton Rubrum
Surface mycosis of the nails, hair, and skin ia a prevalent ailment worldwide. They are caused by several yeast and molds.The primary cause of these illnesses is the dermatophytes, which are filamentous fungi that rely on the keratin in the skin, the corneal layer, and the superficial growths on both human and animal skin. The distribution of these fungi varies between country and within a single country depending on the climate and other variables that promote their growth. the dermatophytes are a major health risk. The current study aim to assess the antifungal activity of Eucalyptus camaldulensis extracts against dermatophytosis-causing Trichophyton rubrum. Three species of dermatophyte (Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophyte and Microsporum canis) were isolated from patients; Trichophyton rubrum was the most common type of fungus. The acquired results demonstrated that, in comparison to the controls, Trichophyton rubrumś mycelium growth was impacted by both aqueous and ethanolic extract. Additionally, it was discovered that when tested against Trichophyton rubrum, ethanolic extracts exhibited the greatest growth suppression
Gabapentin for chronic pelvic pain in women (GaPP2): a multicentre, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial
Background: Chronic pelvic pain affects 2–24% of women worldwide and evidence for medical treatments is scarce. Gabapentin is effective in treating some chronic pain conditions. We aimed to measure the efficacy and safety of gabapentin in women with chronic pelvic pain and no obvious pelvic pathology. Methods: We performed a multicentre, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled randomised trial in 39 UK hospital centres. Eligible participants were women with chronic pelvic pain (with or without dysmenorrhoea or dyspareunia) of at least 3 months duration. Inclusion criteria were 18–50 years of age, use or willingness to use contraception to avoid pregnancy, and no obvious pelvic pathology at laparoscopy, which must have taken place at least 2 weeks before consent but less than 36 months previously. Participants were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to receive gabapentin (titrated to a maximum dose of 2700 mg daily) or matching placebo for 16 weeks. The online randomisation system minimised allocations by presence or absence of dysmenorrhoea, psychological distress, current use of hormonal contraceptives, and hospital centre. The appearance, route, and administration of the assigned intervention were identical in both groups. Patients, clinicians, and research staff were unaware of the trial group assignments throughout the trial. Participants were unmasked once they had provided all outcome data at week 16–17, or sooner if a serious adverse event requiring knowledge of the study drug occurred. The dual primary outcome measures were worst and average pain scores assessed separately on a numerical rating scale in weeks 13–16 after randomisation, in the intention-to-treat population. Self-reported adverse events were assessed according to intention-to-treat principles. This trial is registered with the ISRCTN registry, ISCRTN77451762. Findings: Participants were screened between Nov 30, 2015, and March 6, 2019, and 306 were randomly assigned (153 to gabapentin and 153 to placebo). There were no significant between-group differences in both worst and average numerical rating scale (NRS) pain scores at 13–16 weeks after randomisation. The mean worst NRS pain score was 7·1 (standard deviation [SD] 2·6) in the gabapentin group and 7·4 (SD 2·2) in the placebo group. Mean change from baseline was −1·4 (SD 2·3) in the gabapentin group and −1·2 (SD 2·1) in the placebo group (adjusted mean difference −0·20 [97·5% CI −0·81 to 0·42]; p=0·47). The mean average NRS pain score was 4·3 (SD 2·3) in the gabapentin group and 4·5 (SD 2·2) in the placebo group. Mean change from baseline was −1·1 (SD 2·0) in the gabapentin group and −0·9 (SD 1·8) in the placebo group (adjusted mean difference −0·18 [97·5% CI −0·71 to 0·35]; p=0·45). More women had a serious adverse event in the gabapentin group than in the placebo group (10 [7%] of 153 in the gabapentin group compared with 3 [2%] of 153 in the placebo group; p=0·04). Dizziness, drowsiness, and visual disturbances were more common in the gabapentin group. Interpretation: This study was adequately powered, but treatment with gabapentin did not result in significantly lower pain scores in women with chronic pelvic pain, and was associated with higher rates of side-effects than placebo. Given the increasing reports of abuse and evidence of potential harms associated with gabapentin use, it is important that clinicians consider alternative treatment options to off-label gabapentin for the management of chronic pelvic pain and no obvious pelvic pathology. إن الأزمة المالية العالمية أظهرت أن بعض المؤسسات المالية الإسلامية تعاني من نقص في السيولة مما أدى إلى تعثرها عن سداد الديون التي عليها، فهي ليست بشركات معسرة أو مفلسة، بل تحتاج بعض الوقت لتعالج أزمتها، وفي سبيل ذلك قمت بوضع بعض المقترحات التي تعالج نقص السيولة من خلال ما سطره فقهاؤنا لنبين أن الفقه الإسلامي لديه القدرة على معالجة مثل هذه الأزمات الضخمة، وأنه يستطيع أن يقدم الحلول المناسبة للظروف الاستثنائية التي تمر بها المؤسسات. كما أن هذه الأزمان تعتبر فرصة لاكتشاف مواطن الخلل في عمل المؤسسات فنسعى إلى تلافيها وعلاجها.The international financial crisis has shown that some Islamic financial institutions suffer from the lack of fluidity, which brought about their failure to repay of their debts. They are neither insolvent nor bankrupt companies, but rather they need some time to find a remedy for the crisis. To achiev~ this aim, I have put forward some suggestions which may handle the lack of fluidity in the light of the attitudes of the Islamic jurists so as to prove that Islamic fiqh Uurisprudence) can find a remedy for such emerging mammoth crises. Moreover, crises may constitute a platform for acquiring an ability to locate points of weakness in a company and how to avoid them o manage to find solutions
Septic arthritis of left shoulder in pregnancy following minor hand injury
Septic arthritis of the shoulder joint is rare and might affect around 3% of the general population [1]. A delay in diagnosis may increase morbidity and lead to bone and cartilage destruction [2]. Septic arthritis is an unusual complication of pregnancy and can progress to permanent arthropathy and disability [3].
Septic arthropathy in pregnancy requires multidisciplinary team involvement for prompt recognition and treatment to improve both maternal and fetal outcomes. High index of suspicion is vital when clinical and laboratory findings suggest septic arthritis. There are multiple predisposing factors reported previously for septic arthritis of the shoulder in pregnancy such as medical conditions, pyelonephritis and trauma. We report a 37 year old lady who presented at 26 weeks gestation with acute left shoulder pain and high temperature following minor left palm trauma. She also had left mastectomy with axillary clearance ten years earlier. She underwent arthroscopic wash out of her left shoulder joint and was covered with antibiotics with rapid improvement and recovery. We reinforce the importance of early multidisciplinary involvement when septic arthritis of the shoulder in pregnancy is suspected especially in women who have had previous mastectomy and axillary clearance which could be a predisposing factor for such a rare and serious joint condition in pregnancy
Recording Student Attendance and Recognizing Their Faces Using Deep Learning
There are several methods available to monitor student attendance in classes, such as biometric, radiofrequency, face recognition, and paper-based systems. However, the face recognition-based approach has been found to be both efficient and secure. In this study, a threshold to confi-dence has been implemented through Euclidean distance values to en-hance the identification process. The Local Binary Pattern Histogram (LBPH) algorithm has been utilized for this purpose, as it has been demonstrated to be more effective than other methods such as Eigenfaces and Fisher faces. The Haar cascade method has been used for facial de-tection due to its robustness. The system's performance has been assessed in various scenarios, including recognition rates, false-positive rates, and detecting unknown individuals with or without a threshold. The system has demonstrated an impressive 79% recognition rate for students, with a 24% false-positive rate, and can identify students wearing glasses or a beard. The LBPH algorithm and Haar Cascade method contribute to the system's exceptional performance. The recognition rate for unregistered individuals in facial recognition technology is noteworthy even without the use of a threshold value, sitting at a commendable 64%.
