Projected SO(5) Hamiltonian for Cuprates and Its Applications
The projected SO(5) (pSO(5)) Hamiltonian incorporates the quantum spin and
superconducting fluctuations of underdoped cuprates in terms of four bosons
moving on a coarse grained lattice. A simple mean field approximation can
explain some key feautures of the experimental phase diagram: (i) The Mott
transition between antiferromagnet and superconductor, (ii) The increase of T_c
and superfluid stiffness with hole concentration x and (iii) The increase of
antiferromagnetic resonance energy as sqrt{x-x_c} in the superconducting phase.
We apply this theory to explain the ``two gaps'' problem found in underdoped
cuprate Superconductor-Normal- Superconductor junctions. In particular we
explain the sharp subgap Andreev peaks of the differential resistance, as
signatures of the antiferromagnetic resonance (the magnon mass gap). A critical
test of this theory is proposed. The tunneling charge, as measured by shot
noise, should change by increments of Delta Q= 2e at the Andreev peaks, rather
than by Delta Q=e as in conventional superconductors.Comment: 3 EPS figure
Comparison of Bond Character in Hydrocarbons and Fullerenes
We present a comparison of the bond polarizabilities for carbon-carbon bonds
in hydrocarbons and fullerenes, using two different models for the fullerene
Raman spectrum and the results of Raman measurements on ethane and ethylene. We
find that the polarizabilities for single bonds in fullerenes and hydrocarbons
compare well, while the double bonds in fullerenes have greater polarizability
than in ethylene.Comment: 7 pages, no figures, uses RevTeX. (To appear in Phys. Rev. B.
Ward Identities, B-> \rho Form Factors and |V_ub|
The exclusive FCNC beauty semileptonic decay B-> \rho is studied using Ward
identities in a general vector meson dominance framework, predicting vector
meson couplings involved. The long distance contributions are discussed which
results to obtain form factors and |V_ub|. A detailed comparison is given with
other approaches.Comment: 30 pages+four postscript figures, an Appendix adde
On two superintegrable nonlinear oscillators in N dimensions
We consider the classical superintegrable Hamiltonian system given by
, where U
is known to be the "intrinsic" oscillator potential on the Darboux spaces of
nonconstant curvature determined by the kinetic energy term T and parametrized
by {\lambda}. We show that H is Stackel equivalent to the free Euclidean
motion, a fact that directly provides a curved Fradkin tensor of constants of
motion for H. Furthermore, we analyze in terms of {\lambda} the three different
underlying manifolds whose geodesic motion is provided by T. As a consequence,
we find that H comprises three different nonlinear physical models that, by
constructing their radial effective potentials, are shown to be two different
nonlinear oscillators and an infinite barrier potential. The quantization of
these two oscillators and its connection with spherical confinement models is
briefly discussed.Comment: 11 pages; based on the contribution to the Manolo Gadella Fest-60

Thermodynamics of an interacting trapped Bose-Einstein gas in the classical field approximation
We present a convenient technique describing the condensate in dynamical
equilibrium with the thermal cloud, at temperatures close to the critical one.
We show that the whole isolated system may be viewed as a single classical
field undergoing nonlinear dynamics leading to a steady state. In our procedure
it is the observation process and the finite detection time that allow for
splitting the system into the condensate and the thermal cloud.Comment: 4 pages, 4 eps figures, final versio
Measurement of the production of charm jets tagged with D mesons in pp collisions at = 7 TeV
The production of charm jets in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass
energy of TeV was measured with the ALICE detector at the CERN
Large Hadron Collider. The measurement is based on a data sample corresponding
to a total integrated luminosity of , collected using a
minimum-bias trigger. Charm jets are identified by the presence of a D
meson among their constituents. The D mesons are reconstructed from their
hadronic decay DK. The D-meson tagged jets are
reconstructed using tracks of charged particles (track-based jets) with the
anti- algorithm in the jet transverse momentum range
and pseudorapidity
. The fraction of charged jets containing a D-meson
increases with from to . The distribution of D-meson tagged jets as a
function of the jet momentum fraction carried by the D meson in the
direction of the jet axis () is reported for two ranges
of jet transverse momenta, and
in the intervals
and , respectively. The
data are compared with results from Monte Carlo event generators (PYTHIA 6,
PYTHIA 8 and Herwig 7) and with a Next-to-Leading-Order perturbative Quantum
Chromodynamics calculation, obtained with the POWHEG method and interfaced with
PYTHIA 6 for the generation of the parton shower, fragmentation, hadronisation
and underlying event.Comment: 29 pages, 8 captioned figures, 3 tables, authors from page 24,

First measurement of production in pp collisions at = 7 TeV
The production of the charm-strange baryon is measured for
the first time at the LHC via its semileptonic decay into e
in pp collisions at TeV with the ALICE detector. The transverse
momentum () differential cross section multiplied by the branching
ratio is presented in the interval 1 8 GeV/ at
mid-rapidity, 0.5. The transverse momentum dependence of the
baryon production relative to the D meson production is
compared to predictions of event generators with various tunes of the
hadronisation mechanism, which are found to underestimate the measured
cross-section ratio.Comment: 22 pages, 6 captioned figures, 1 table, authors from page 17,
