    Next-to-leading Log Resummation of Scalar and Pseudoscalar Higgs Boson Differential Cross-Sections at the LHC and Tevatron

    The region of small transverse momentum in q qbar- and gg-initiated processes must be studied in the framework of resummation to account for the large, logarithmically-enhanced contributions to physical observables. In this paper, we will calculate the fixed order next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative total and differential cross-sections for both a Standard Model (SM) scalar Higgs boson and the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model's (MSSM) pseudoscalar Higgs boson in the Heavy Quark Effective Theory (HQET) where the mass of the top quark is taken to be infinite.     We derive recurrence relations between phase space expressions in different dimensions by confining some of the coordinates to tori or spheres of radius RR and taking the limit as RR \to \infty.     We present the next-to-next-to-leading order (alphaalphas2alpha alpha_s^2) corrections to the first moment of the polarized virtual photon structure function g1gamma(x,Q2,P2)g_1^gamma(x,Q^2,P^2) in the kinematical region Lambda2llP2llQ2Lambda^2 ll P^2 ll Q^2, where Q2(P2)-Q^2(-P^2) is the mass squared of the probe (target) photon and LambdaLambda is the QCD scale parameter. In order to evaluate the three-loop-level photon matrix element of the flavor singlet axial current, we resort to the Adler-Bardeen theorem for the axial anomaly and we calculate in effect the two-loop diagrams for the photon matrix element of the gluon operator. The alphaalphas2alpha alpha_s^2 corrections are found to be about 3% of the sum of the leading order (alphaalpha) andthe next-to-leading order (alphaalphasalpha alpha_s) contributions, when Q2=30sim100rmGeV2Q^2=30 sim 100 {rm GeV}^2and P2=3rmGeV2P^2=3{rm GeV}^2, and the number of active quark flavors nfn_f is three to five.Comment: 21 page

    Associated production of H^{\pm} and W^{\mp} in high-energy e+e- collisions in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model

    We study the associated production of the charged Higgs boson and W^{\pm} gauge boson in high energy e+e- collisions in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). This associated production, which first arises at the one loop level, offers the possibility of producing the charged Higgs boson at the e+e- collider with mass more than half the center-of-mass energy, when the charged Higgs pair production is kinematically forbidden. We present analytic and numerical results for the cross section for e+e- --> W+ H- in the full MSSM, taking into account the previously uncalculated contributions from supersymmetric (SUSY) particles. We find that the contributions of the SUSY particles enhance the cross section over most of SUSY parameter space, especially when the SUSY particles are light, ~200 GeV. With favorable SUSY parameters, at small tan beta, this process can yield more than ten W^{\pm}H^{\mp} events for m_{H^{\pm}} <~ 350 GeV in 500 fb-1 at a 500 GeV e+e- collider, or m_{H^{\pm}} <~ 600 GeV in 1000 fb-1 at a 1000 GeV collider. 80% left-handed polarization of the e- beam improves these reaches to m_{H^{\pm}} <~ 375 GeV and m_{H^{\pm}} <~ 670 GeV, respectively.Comment: v2: 21 pages, 9 figures, comments on Higgs search bounds and new references added, and minor changes; v3: 23 pages, 11 figures, review of literature moved from introduction to new Sec.5 and 2 plots added, references added, typos corrected; v4: bug fixed in nu nubar H0 cross section (Fig.11), version to appear in PR

    Scalar and Pseudoscalar Higgs Boson Plus One Jet Production at the LHC and Tevatron

    The production of the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson (H) in association with a jet is compared with that of the lightest scalar Higgs boson (h^0) and the pseudoscalar Higgs boson (A^0) of the Minimal Supersymmetric Model (MSSM) at both the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Fermilab Tevatron.     Spacetime Fermions in Light-cone Gauge Superstring Field Theory and Dimensional Regularization

    We consider the dimensional regularization of the light-cone gauge type II superstring field theories in the NSR formalism. In the previous work, we have calculated the tree-level amplitudes with external lines in the (NS,NS) sector using the regularization and shown that the desired results are obtained without introducing contact term interactions. In this work, we study the tree-level amplitudes with external lines in the Ramond sector. In order to deal with them, we propose a worldsheet theory to be used instead of that for the naive dimensional regularization. With the worldsheet theory, we regularize and define the tree-level amplitudes by analytic continuation.     Social factors influencing child health in Ghana

    Objectives Social factors have profound effects on health. Children are especially vulnerable to social influences, particularly in their early years. Adverse social exposures in childhood can lead to chronic disorders later in life. Here, we sought to identify and evaluate the impact of social factors on child health in Ghana. As Ghana is unlikely to achieve the Millennium Development Goals’ target of reducing child mortality by two-thirds between 1990 and 2015, we deemed it necessary to identify social determinants that might have contributed to the non-realisation of this goal. Methods ScienceDirect, PubMed, MEDLINE via EBSCO and Google Scholar were searched for published articles reporting on the influence of social factors on child health in Ghana. After screening the 98 articles identified, 34 of them that met our inclusion criteria were selected for qualitative review. Results Major social factors influencing child health in the country include maternal education, rural-urban disparities (place of residence), family income (wealth/poverty) and high dependency (multiparousity). These factors are associated with child mortality, nutritional status of children, completion of immunisation programmes, health-seeking behaviour and hygiene practices. Conclusions Several social factors influence child health outcomes in Ghana. Developing more effective responses to these social determinants would require sustainable efforts from all stakeholders including the Government, healthcare providers and families. We recommend the development of interventions that would support families through direct social support initiatives aimed at alleviating poverty and inequality, and indirect approaches targeted at eliminating the dependence of poor health outcomes on social factors.     We derive expressions for the phase-space of a particle of momentum pp decaying into NN particles, that are valid for any number of dimensions. These are the imaginary parts of so-called `sunset' diagrams, which we also obtain.     BRS symmetry restoration of chiral Abelian Higgs-Kibble theory in dimensional renormalization with a non-anticommuting γ5\gamma_5

    The one-loop renormalization of the abelian Higgs-Kibble model in a general 't Hooft gauge and with chiral fermions is fully worked out within dimensional renormalization scheme with a non-anticommuting γ5\gamma_5. The anomalous terms introduced in the Slavnov-Taylor identities by the minimal subtraction algorithm are calculated and the asymmetric counterterms needed to restore the BRS symmetry, if the anomaly cancellation conditions are met, are computed.
