    Research on diabatic initialization

    Get PDF
The objective was to contribute to the improvement of the analyses of irrotational wind and moisture fields in the trophics through advancement in the technique of initialization by incorporating diabatic effects. Significant accomplishments made during the period May 1990 to April 1991 in the following areas are presented: (1) estimation of the uncertainty of daily synoptic analyses in the tropics; (2) normal modes of Laplace's tidal equations for zonal wavenumber zero; and (3) tropical initialization to ameliorate the spin-up problem of precipitation forecasts. The focus of current research and plans for next year are also presented

Propulsive Performance and Heating Environment of Rotating Detonation Engine with Various Nozzles

Geometric throats are commonly applied to rocket combustors to increase pressure and specific impulse. This paper presents the results from thrust measurements of an ethylene/gas-oxygen rotating detonation engine with various throat geometries in a vacuum chamber to simulate varied backpressure conditions in a range of 1.1–104 kPa. For the throatless case, the detonation channel area was regarded to be equivalent the throat area, and three throat-contraction ratios were tested: 1, 2.5, and 8. Results revealed that combustor pressure was approximately proportional to equivalent throat mass flux for all test cases. Specific impulse was measured for a wide range of pressure ratios, defined as the ratio of the combustor pressure to the backpressure in the vacuum chamber. The rotating detonation engine could achieve almost the same level of optimum specific impulse for each backpressure, whether or not flow was squeezed by a geometric throat. In addition, heat-flux measurements using heat-resistant material are summarized. Temporally and spatially averaged heat flux in the engine were roughly proportional to channel mass flux. Heat-resistant material wall compatibility with two injector shapes of doublet and triplet injection is also discussed

The Case Study about Psychological Support for a Golf Player

Psychological factor is important for golf. As compared with other game events, the time of golf which has not played is long, and how to spend waiting time is difficult for it. It is said that the time when the golf player has hit the ball is 1% or less of round time. Almost all the time of a play is used for preparation of waiting time, or the preparation which strikes the following shot. Therefore, it becomes important how waiting time is controlled. This research reports the psychological support carried out to golf player who refrained from the protest used as a big gateway for golf players. They are about 700-800 examinees of a protest of golf. However, there are about 20 successful candidates of a protest of golf. It is the difficulty that the rate of success is about 3%. The protest system consists of a primary elimination contest, a secondary elimination contest, and a protest. A secondary elimination contest is divided into 4 blocks, and is carried out. It is held 3 times by each block. The player to the 26th place of a higher rank can participate in a protest. A protest is carried out by game for three days. There are about 120 participants and the player of 20 higher ranks is passing. A protest is for three days and is a short period of time. In the player who did top passage by the secondary elimination contest, many players become a failure. The protest is the judging system which is easy to receive psychological pressure. The psychological support to the golf player was carried out for about two months. The skill and the technique which the consultant instructs were as follows ; Self Awareness, Goal Setting, Self Talk, Relaxation, Activation, Focus, Imagery, Self-Confidence, Psychological Preparation, Coping Skill etc. Consultant carried out the session 3 times. He also did the support by e-mail and the telephone of a cellular phone. She passed as a result of psychological support. As a result of comparing the result of the psychological test before and behind psychological support and introspection report, self-control capability, relaxed capability, focus, self confidence, decision, prediction power, and judgment improved

Acute eosinophilic pneumonia following cigarette smoking: A case report including cigarette-smoking challenge test

金沢大学医薬保健研究域医学系A 21-year-old woman presented with acute progressive dyspnea. Chest computed tomography (CT) revealed diffuse bilateral infiltrates. Based on the results of transbronchial lung biopsy (TBLB) and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and her clinical course, she was diagnosed as having acute eosinophilic pneumonia. We suspected that the disease was related to smoking because she had started smoking ten days before the onset of symptoms. Therefore, a cigarette-smoking challenge test was done with the patient\u27s informed consent. After the challenge, eosinophilic pneumonia was documented by BALF and TBLB findings, which were similar to those detected on admission, without significant radiographic findings
