1st International Symposium on Fig -- JUN 24-28, 1997 -- IZMIR, TURKEYWOS: 000079157300055The share of agriculture in Turkish GNP and exports has decreased over the last two decades. However, agriculture still plays an important role in Turkish economy since it provides employment opportunities and supports industry by producing raw materials. Fig is an important subsector of the Turkish agricultural economy. Turkey is ranked first in the world's fig production with approximately 10 million fig trees on cultivated fig area. The value of fig exports sum up to 80 million. In spite of the importance of the fig subsector in Turkish economy, the studies that aim to analyze the subsidy and marketing policies related to fig are small in number. In this study, we will examine subsidy policies in fig production by investigating the effects of subsidies on fig production, producer incomes, price formation, production costs, quality and storage. We will also attempt to assess the performance of the marketing of figs. Performance will be evaluated by using several performance criteria such as matching of supply and demand, stability of incomes, marketing margins and progressiveness.Int Soc Hort Sc

WOS: 000175565800003The study investigates the competitive power of Turkey's tomato, grape, and citrus fruit processing industry product exports (products with the highest shares in Turkey's total fruit and vegetable exports) in the EU market. The export similarity index reveals that Greece, Spain, and Portugal are Turkey's competitors. The revealed comparative advantage index and comparative export performance index show that Turkey's competitive power is higher than Spain and Portugal in processed grape exports, and is higher than Greece and Portugal in citrus fruit exports. There is no indication of competitiveness for processed tomato exports. The econometric import demand model reveals that relative export prices matter in determining Turkey's competitive power in the EU-processed tomato and grape markets

National industry clusters and regional specializations in Turkey

Regional-Studies-Association Conference -- SEP 15-18, 2001 -- GDANSK, DENMARKWOS: 000185597100003The article aims to identify industry clusters in Turkey by examining inter-industry selling and purchasing relationships. The 1990 Turkish input-output table is used to identify similarities between selling and purchasing patterns of the 60 manufacturing industries and derive a matrix that describes relative linkages between them. The article also investigates the regional specializations by using the identified national clusters as templates for an analysis of local patterns. Principle component factor analysis reveals the presence of six identfiable industry clusters. The firms within the identified clusters provide a potential to share technical information and knowledge transfer through formal or informal interactions.Reg Studies Asso

An alternative method for fabricating a custom-made metal post with a ceramic core

    No full text
The restoration of anterior non-vital teeth with metal posts and cores and all-ceramic restorations may lead to compromised esthetics because of the semitranslucence of ceramics and the metallic color of the underlying post and cores. This article presents a technique that combines the optical properties of ceramic cores with the mechanical properties of custom-made cast metal posts. The technique involves heat pressing of the core from leucite-enriched glass-ceramic to the underlying custom-made metal post and may provide additional esthetic benefit for anterior teeth especially with little remaining coronal dentin and with small root volume
