Timed Insemination vs. Modified Estrus Detection in Beef Heifers

Th e objective of this study was to compare a modified estrus detection and fixed time AI vs. no estrus detection and fixed time AI on subsequent pregnancy rates. Yearling heifers were estrus synchronized and AI at 72 ± 2 h after prostaglandin injection. In one group estrus was not detected and all heifers received gonadotropin releasing hormone at the fixed- time AI; in the other group estrus was detected at 58 ± 2 and 70 ± 2 h after prostaglandin and inseminated in the following order at 72 ± 2 h: heifers in estrus at 58 h, heifers in estrus at 70 h, and heifers not appearing in estrus at either observation. Similar AI conception and final pregnancy rates were achieved without the added labor of estrus detection

SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF MESOPOROUS ALUMINOSILICATES AI-MCM- 41 AND INVESTIGATIONOF ITS THERMAL, HYDROTHERMALAND ACIDITYSTABILITY

ABSTRACT The synthesis and characterization of mesoporous aluminosilicates AI-MCM-41 and the investigation of its thermal, hydrothermal and acidity stability have been done. AI-MCM-41 were synthesized by hydrothermal method to the mixture of sodium silicate as Si source, aluminium hydroxide as AI source, sodium hydroxide as a solvent, and cethyltrimethylammoniumbromide(CTAS) as structure directing agent. The reaction were carried out in alkaline condition (pH = 10.2) at 383 K for about 24 h, followed by calcination at 723 K for about 10 h. The synthesized crystals were characterized using FTiR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and Nz fisisorption methods. The result showed that AI-MCM-41 sample with hexagonal structure was formed, it has a good in thermal and acid stability, but the structure disintegratedin an alkaline solution (pH = 10)and in boiled water.. Le jeu de rôle "sérieux": un outil pédagogique pour l’EDD et la pensée complexe ?

Les JIES ont accueilli une session expérimentale de « L’empire des hyperplaneurs », un jeu de rôle "sérieux", autour de la problématique des pétroles de schistes. Ce jeu a été élaboré par la Haute Ecole pédagogique de Fribourg, en vue de former les futurs enseignants à la pensée complexe caractéristique de l’éducation au développement durable (EDD). L’objectif de ce test grandeur nature est de l’épouver, à défaut de véritablement l’évaluer, afin de pouvoir l’utiliser en formation initiale des enseignants, mais également afin que ces derniers puissent l’utiliser à leur tour comme outil pédagogique dans leurs classes.The 2013 edition of the JIES has hosted an experimental session of "The Empire of hypergliders", a "serious" role-play about questions related to shale oil. This game was elaborated by the Haute École pédagogique in Fribourg, Switzerland, and aims at training future teachers to complex thinking, which is a major feature of sustainable development education. The purpose of this first trial in real life was to test it, if not to assess it, to then be able to use it in the initial training of teachers but also to allow them to use it as a teaching tool in their future classrooms
