The documents in the Quality Management System help businesses and personnel maintain a certain quality level. One part of these documents are the work instructions, which mainly help the manufacturing to function in a desired way.
The aim for this thesis was to compile written work instructions for the manufacturing of truck bodies. This thesis was done for Fokor Ltd. and the request for the work instructions was received from their client company. In the future Fokor Ltd. will also strive to standardize different procedures and stages in the production. Work instructions are also expected to speed up the familiarization of new work procedures amongst new mechanics and mechanics changing workstations.
This thesis will go through what should be included in the work instructions according to the ISO 9001 standard. Also included are the legal requirements in the manufacturing of truck bodies, examples of the compiled work instructions and analyzing the usefulness of the work instructions for the mechanics.
The compiled work instructions were considered confidential and they were provided in the appendices. They will not be published in the public version

Aspects of the Institutionalization of Evaluation in Finland : Basic, Agency, Process and Change
This article elaborates a neo-institutional approach to evaluation and utilizes this approach for an empirical examination of the institutionalization of evaluation in Finland’s national government. The results indicate ambiguity in the basic institutionalization of the evaluation examined and imprecision in the agency of the actors carrying out or commissioning evaluations. With tighter or looser coupling to decision-making, institutional practices of evaluation enhance performance or support legitimation, or do both in various combinations. Future studies will be needed to ascertain to what extent intense agent-driven change has only introduced formal procedures enacted in the name of evaluation, and to what extent this type of change has influenced actual evaluation practices. The article finishes with a consideration of the contributions it claims to make. This article draws on neo-institutional theoretical ideas to empirically examine the institutionalization of evaluation in the national government of Finland. The results indicate ambiguity in the basic institutionalization of Finnish evaluation, and imprecision in the agency of the actors that carry out or commission evaluations or utilize the evaluation results. Some Finnish institutional practices of evaluation enhance formal rationality such as efficiency and effectiveness, some support legitimation, and others do both in combination. The strength of coupling of evaluation to decision-making varies greatly. For future research, the article suggests studies on the institutionalization of evaluation in other countries. For evaluation practice, the results highlight the position of evaluation along the rationality-legitimation axis, and the variable linkages of evaluation to decision-making.Peer reviewe
The semiotic theory of A.J. Greimas in mainstream organization theory and organization research
The purpose of this paper is to consider the reception of the semiotic theory of A.J. Greimas in mainstream organization theory and organization research. “Mainstream organization theory” and “mainstream organization research” comprise a domain with publications entirely in English in higher-impact journals with a characteristically substantial attraction of citations to the published works. This delineation of the “mainstream” indicates no apology, but, on the contrary, suggests criticism towards the prevailing hegemonic dominance with inequalities between national languages, cultures, and cultural and linguistic regions of the world (Meriläinen et al. 2008; Tietze and Dick 2013). The quantitative character of established impact indicators of academic research further adds to the hegemony. This paper considers the reception of the theory from an extensive rather than an intensive point of view. For instance, the paper does not try to catch authors for skewed reception of the theory of Greimas, ignorance of the theoretical context of the borrowed elements, simplification verging towards vulgarization, or misunderstanding. The paper asks two research questions: 1. How has the theory of Greimas been received in mainstream organization theory and organization research? 2. Has mainstream organization theory and organization research left opportunities offered by the theory of Greimas unexploited as concerns the reception of this theory?Peer reviewe
Digital Public-Administration Research Drawing from Bayesian Inspiration : Latent Trait Scaling and Topic Modeling Examination of Budgetary Legislation in Thirteen Countries
This article extends the methodological and empirical scope of public administration research and applies two Bayesian-inspired computational research methods – unsupervised latent trait scaling and topic modeling. The article uses these methods to examine government budgeting in thirteen Western countries, utilizing budgetary legislation as the research material. The empirical research question is: How are legal system traditions present in the words of texts of legislation on government budgeting? According to the results, at one end of the latent trait scale we find overseas inheritors of Britain’s common law legal system, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and at the other end two representatives of civil law of the Napoleonic subtype, Italy and Spain. The other countries situate themselves in intermediate positions between the extremes. The topic modeling indicates three reasonably homogeneous groups of countries: the three overseas inheritors of common law andmore weakly the United Kingdom, three countries representing the Napoleonic heritage, and, more weakly German-speaking and Nordic countries. In general, the article and its results emphasize the opportunities to extend Bayesian-inspired research in this research field.Peer reviewe

Holdings of national and local governments in companies in Finland: Persistence and change in the longer term
Applying an approach of neo-institutional research, this article examines the history of company holdings of the national government and local governments in Finland in the longer term. The article examines the genealogy of the institutional forms of these holdings, the diffusion, adoption and adaptation of these forms, and the political legitimacy of new forms and the political de-legitimation of certain earlier forms. For theory, the results indicate that the individual tailoring of institutional forms offers flexibility but increases complexity. For practice, the results suggest that the company form may too easily marginalize alternative institutional forms such as co-operatives, associations, and foundations.Applying an approach of neo-institutional research, this article examines the history of company holdings of the national government and local governments in Finland in the longer term. Institutionalizing Big Data methods in social and political research
We expect Big Data methods to contribute to research with results that are not inferior to those attained in other ways but possibly better, or hard or impossible to generate in other ways. Those who apply these methods may also aspire to augment the arsenal of research methods, offer surrogates for existing research designs, and re-orient research. Moreover, we can critically examine the institutional, societal and political effects of the Big Data methods and the conditions for the solid institutionalization of these methods in social and political research. To reach its primary objective, this article elaborates conclusions on how Big Data methods, not only by means of their ‘social life’ but also by their ‘political life’, may influence the institutionalization of social and political research. To reach its secondary objective, the article re-examines a study of budgetary legislation in 13 countries carried out by means of Big Data methods to draw conclusions concerning the augmentation of the arsenal of research methods, the surrogation of existing research designs, and the re-orientation of research.Peer reviewe
