From Trade Deficit in Goods to Trade Surplus in Services: An Eclectic and Extended Gravity Model Approach in Analyzing the Determinants of Service Trade of the United States

    Get PDF
This paper employs an eclectic and extended gravity model of trade to assess the most important determinants of real export and import of services of the United States by analyzing US service trade with its 33 partner countries for 15 years. Distance affects US real export of services negatively, but has no influence on US real import of services. A devaluation of the US dollar increases service export of the United States. We find a positive relationship between US goods trade and US service exports. US outward FDI has a positive impact on US real export of services, but has no significance on US real service imports. Trade freedom of both the US and its partner countries contribute to both the real service exports and imports of the United States. Tariff equivalents of non-tariff barriers and corruption in the importing country have a strong negative impact on the US export of services. Neither regional trade agreements nor a common language contribute to US service trade. Contiguity increases both US export and import of services

Recently, many accidents and diseases occurred in educational institutions in Malaysia that involving teachers, staff and students. Most of government organizations and public services do not have a competent person of occupational safety and health to manage and monitor OSH issues in their premises and activities. Hence this quantitative study was conducted to identify the awareness level on causes of accidents and diseases among employees in selected secondary schools in Sabak Bernam Selangor. Moreover, the objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between three factors (human, behaviour and environment) and the awareness level on cause of accidents and diseases. In addition, the instruments that distributed to the 221 employees in selected schools are self-reported questionnaires by using the quota stratified sampling. Most of the respondents are teachers, general and technical employees as well as administration employees involved in data collection that conducted in May until June 2017. The SPSS version 20.0 was used to analyze descriptive, Pearson Correlation and Multiple Linear Regression analysis to fulfill the research objectives. The awareness level are high with approximately M=4.06. Furthermore the most significant relationship among three factors is environment (r=0.347) while the human and behaviour factors are r=0.297 and r=0.300 respectively. These three relationships are positive significant with 0.000 less than p-value<0.01. Result from the analysis conducted by multiple linear regression, the environment factors has high relationship with the dependent variables of the high beta (β=0.228 p=0.01). As a nutshell, the awareness level should be identifying with other factors that potential to improve the OSH issue in the educational institutions in Malaysia. Besides that, the improvement through OSH training and program and enforcement of OSH Act 1994 in public sector must be implement for the safety and health of young generation

Online business in Saudi Arabia is almost certain to grow because a large proportion of the population is younger than 25, tech perceptive, and global in their perspectives toward product buying in their everyday lives. The purpose of this research was to suggest leadership theories, tactics, and techniques that Saudi Arabian business owners can utilize to pursue online business strategies of growth and success today and in the future. An online instrument surveyed 142 Saudi Arabian citizens to identify factors affecting online business in Saudi Arabia and to identify the necessary skill sets a leader must have to lead an online business in Saudi Arabia. An important limitation of this study was that the history of Saudi Arabian online business was difficult to research and find. Another limitation is that clarifying problems in the Saudi Arabian social, economic, legal, and political environments were a very sensitive, touchy undertaking for certain facts and information. After getting the approval from this study\u27s committee and getting approval from the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Pepperdine University, findings from 142 participants (Saudi Arabian citizens) who took the online survey were analyzed, and based on these findings, the researcher generated implications and recommendations. Some of the findings were that the majority of the respondents preferred responding in Arabic. Most of the respondents were male (75.4%). Only a small percentage was younger than 21 and older than 50. The majority were people with bachelor\u27s and master\u27s degrees. Business owners accounted only 44.4% of the total number of respondents. The growth of online business was attributed to passage of time and likelihood of young people using more online services. The respondents thought that the government did not provide enough infrastructure support for online businesses. According to the findings, the most important leadership traits a leader must have to lead an online business in Saudi Arabia are honesty and integrity

Air-Fin Coil Performance as a Function of Tube Layout

An attempt is made in this study to analyze complex configurations of cross flow heat exchangers. There are 3 objectives to be achieved in this study. Firstly, in order to obtain effectiveness value for complex configurations of cross flow heat exchangers, general methods for solving simultaneous equations by using MATLAB software will be developed. Secondly, this study aims to perform analysis for chosen heat exchanger configurations. Lastly, the result will be validated by using comparison analysis with well–established EVAP COND software. For co-flow, counter flow and simple cross flow arrangement, the value of effectiveness is given in the literature. Meanwhile, for more complex cross-flow heat exchanger, it is difficult to solve for the value of effectiveness since it involve simultaneous equations. The equations must be solved for each individual layout and cannot be generalized for all configurations. Therefore effectiveness for various complex configurations is yet to be published in any literature. A finned tube evaporator model is used by using EVAPCOND software. The modelling scheme is “tube-by-tube” and allows for specification of complex refrigerant circuits. It capability was to simulate refrigerant distribution in the refrigerant circuit. Simulation models that account for refrigerant circuit architecture are better equipped for accurately predicting heat exchanger performance. This is because the refrigerant path (co flow, cross flow, cross counter flow and cross co flow) through the heat exchanger can have a significant effect on heat exchanger performance. Several complex air finned coil heat exchangers has been analysed by using Chain Rule method in finding the value of effectiveness

A simple route to prepare Gd0.7_{0.7}Sr0.3_{0.3}MnO3_3 nanoparticles by ultrasonication of their bulk powder materials is presented in this article. For comparison, Gd0.7_{0.7}Sr0.3_{0.3}MnO3_3 nanoparticles are also prepared by ball milling. The prepared samples are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD),field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), X-ray photoelectron spectroscope (XPS), and Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) magnetometer. XRD Rietveld analysis is carried out extensively for the determination of crystallographic parameters and the amount of crystalline and amorphous phases. FESEM images demonstrate the formation of nanoparticles with average particle size in the range of 50-100 nm for both ultrasonication and 4 hours (h) of ball milling. The bulk materials and nanoparticles synthesized by both ultrasonication and 4 h ball milling exhibit a paramagnetic to spin-glass transition. However, nanoparticles synthesized by 8 h and 12 h ball milling do not reveal any phase transition, rather show an upturn of magnetization at low temperature. The degradation of the magnetic properties in ball milled nanoparticles may be associated with amorphization of the nanoparticles due to ball milling particularly for milling time exceeding 8 h. This investigation demonstrates the potential of ultrasonication as a simple route to prepare high crystalline rare-earth based manganite nanoparticles with improved control compared to the traditional ball milling technique.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figure
