All organizations use performance appraisal for several purposes in a systematic way using multifarious techniques and tools to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of their employees in relation to certain pre-established criteria and organizational goal as objectively as possible to ultimately know whether the organization is moving towards its predetermined goals. .. Performance Appraisal ensures the best utilization of employee talent because it helps the organization to reward the employees having better abilities and rectify the wrong placement which in turns improves the human resource quality responsible for overall growth of the organization. The inability of organization to adopt a sound system of performance appraisal will be a hindrance to put an optimum use of the human resource in this era of globalization to attain the competitive advantage over others. The matter of fact is that Management assesses the performance of employees to maintain organizational control and disburse rewards and punishments to keep them on the track of organizational growt

    Get PDF
Chemotherapy uses drugs to kill cancer cells, either by preventing them from multiplying or by causing the cells to self-destruct. However, in most cases, high systemic toxicity and drug resistance limit the successful outcomes of treatment regimes. Prevention of cancer through dietary intervention recently has received an increasing interest and dietary polyphenols have become not only important potential chemopreventive, but also therapeutic, natural agents. Combination of effective chemopreventive agent (such as ginger) with chemotherapeutic agents may enhance efficacy while reducing toxicity to normal tissues, resulting in better survival. In this study, we observed that treatment of human cervical carcinoma cell line, HeLa with ethanolic ginger extract in combination with gemcitabine resulted in significant dose-dependent decrease in cell viability. It is noteworthy that use of ginger extract increased the efficacy of gemcitabine and importantly, it was found to be minimally toxic to normal cells. Together, these results suggest a novel mechanism may be involved in the synergistic effect of this combination. Thus, this combination may be an effective modality management in the treatment of cervical cancer

Parallel Factor-Based Model for Two-Dimensional Direction Estimation

    Get PDF
Two-dimensional (2D) Direction-of-Arrivals (DOA) estimation for elevation and azimuth angles assuming noncoherent, mixture of coherent and noncoherent, and coherent sources using extended three parallel uniform linear arrays (ULAs) is proposed. Most of the existing schemes have drawbacks in estimating 2D DOA for multiple narrowband incident sources as follows: use of large number of snapshots, estimation failure problem for elevation and azimuth angles in the range of typical mobile communication, and estimation of coherent sources. Moreover, the DOA estimation for multiple sources requires complex pair-matching methods. The algorithm proposed in this paper is based on first-order data matrix to overcome these problems. The main contributions of the proposed method are as follows: (1) it avoids estimation failure problem using a new antenna configuration and estimates elevation and azimuth angles for coherent sources; (2) it reduces the estimation complexity by constructing Toeplitz data matrices, which are based on a single or few snapshots; (3) it derives parallel factor (PARAFAC) model to avoid pair-matching problems between multiple sources. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm

Using the matrix of Wang-Ball polynomials, the main singular perturbation problem is converted into linear algebraic equation systems. The coefficients of the required approximate solution are obtained from the solution of this system. The residual correction approach was also used to improve an error, and the results were compared to other reported numerical methods. Several examples are used to illustrate both the reliability and usefulness of the Wang-Ball operational matrices. The Wang Ball approach has the ability to improve the outcomes by minimizing the degree of error between approximate and exact solutions. The Wang-Ball series has shown its usefulness in solving any real-life scenario model as first- or second-order differential equations (DEs)

    Get PDF
A retrospective analysis of 34 patients of obstructive renal failure, initially managed by percutaneous nephrostomy was performed. Pre procedure blood biochemical profile was compared with upto one week follow-up of blood chemistry. There was a decline of 71.1% and 56.08% (P-values 0.0001 and 0.0028) in the mean values of serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen respectively at 7 days after the procedure. Improvement in blood biochemical profile was solely dependent on performance of percutaneous nephrostomy

Increasingly, nowadays students must learn more advanced technical skills in order to secure jobs in a competitive 21st century workforce. This is true even in the Gulf Countries, including the UAE, where less IT work opportunities are available and where competition to find a good IT job is becoming harder. Yet the curriculum that was available to teach them these cutting-edge skills was often textbook-based, uninspiring, and limited in its appeal. Therefore, it was essential to address these issues at the curriculum of developmental program of United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) before students move on to their specific discipline. Considering the earlier mentioned flaws in IT, UGRU curriculum, leadership team in spring 2005 decided to introduce critical and creative thinking and cognition based ICT literacy program along with PBL (Problem Based Learning). The basic objectives of the PBL projects are to promote (i) Research, (ii) Critical Thinking, and (iii) Application of ICT knowledge. The themes of the projects are based on geo-social, scientific or general awareness. In this paper the IT UGRU developmental program will be compared to those counterparts that exist in leading Universities such as UAE, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, UK, Canada, and USA. This paper describes the PBL based teaching strategies and their overall effectiveness. It also discusses the impact of these projects on student learning and achieving educational goals. Results are very encouraging. The outcome of this research indicates that using PBL in ICT classrooms can help students become self learners, able to search out, understand, analyze, and synthesize information in a better way. It also helps them to understand the real value of ICT in their lives
