This study has been carried out to analyze research papers published on Stevia rebaudiana during 1966-2019 using a bibliometric approach. The data is mined from the Web of Science Core Collection,  returning 1835 articles on the topic for analysis. The study documents most productive countries and authors delved into Stevia research. India appears to be the most productive country, followed by USA. The top-cited articles, top-organizations and funding agencies, and journals with most publications on subject are also identified. The analysis shows an increasing trend for research on Stevia during recent years with an Annual Percentage Growth Rate of 1.29 and the number jumped from only 03 publications in 1966-1971 to 1000 in 2014-2019. Pakistan has a comparable global share of 2.84% on Stevia research but further attention on research is needed in this field apprehending the commercial and health potential of this plant and considering the status of Pakistan as an agrarian country. Keywords: Stevia rebaudiana; Economic potential; Research productivity; Bibliometri

Background: The spread of Zika virus is of great concern as it is recently becoming the third global infectious disease outburst after H1N1 flu and the Ebola virus infections. Centre for Disease Control (CDC) categorized Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh as countries vulnerable to Zika Risk. Realizing health implications of this emerging epidemic, it is a dire need to build an all-inclusive view of the status of research on Zika virus disease, and a lucid picture of the research output and scientific collaborations in the field. Methods: All the articles published globally on Zika virus during 2008-2017 and documented in Web of Science were analyzed using Microsoft Excel and Word Cloud tool. The data were extracted from all databases of the Web of Science, obtaining a total of 3384 articles for analysis.Results: 3384 records on Zika virus research were indexed in the Web of Science database during 2008-2017. The retrieved data indicate that over the past ten years, not much research has been done on this virus and the focus shifted to research on Zika in the last three years only and the number of researches increased from just 38 in 2015 to 1962 in 2017. Pakistan has a low share in global publications on Zika with a total number of 24 publications. “Honein Margaret” is considered the most active researcher in the field, by contributing to 80 articles. Most of the published research on Zika virus is from US (47.07%).Conclusion: When compared with other countries, the contribution of Pakistan is negligible with a global share of 0.71% on Zika virus. Serious focus on research is needed in this field realizing the severe medical, ethical, and economic implications of this emerging epidemic in Pakistan

Elevated liver enzymes after olanzapine use: a case report

    Get PDF
Olanzapine is a second-generation antipsychotic used in bipolar mania and schizophrenia. We are reporting the case of a young female patient who developed elevated liver enzymes after olanzapine use. Patient's liver enzymes improved after the discontinuation of olanzapine making it a possible cause for reversible hepatotoxicity. We recommend physicians to check liver enzymes regularly if patient is on olanzapine

Seizure in a patient on Wellbutrin: a case report

    Get PDF
We are reporting the case of drug-induced seizure in a 32-year-old Hispanic female who was taking wellbutrin for major depression. Our patient was taking 300 mg/day of wellbutrin when she had one episode of generalized seizure. Wellbutrin uses, side effects, and contraindications are discussed in this case report. Moreover, the factors that make individuals more vulnerable to seizures, as a side effect of wellbutrin, are also highlighted. Interestingly, wellbutrin also has addiction potential hence its abuse is becoming increasingly common that makes it crucial for the clinicians to rule out any history of substance abuse before prescribing it. Literature review has shown a reported case of seizure as a side effect of wellbutrin. Our patient remained seizure free after wellbutrin was discontinued making it the possible cause for her seizure episode

Leukopenia in a patient on haloperidol decanoate: a case report

We are reporting a case of leukopenia developed in a patient on haloperidol decanoate injections. A literature review revealed it as an uncommon side effect of antipsychotics; however, regular monitoring of blood cell count is crucial in patients on antipsychotics. In this case report, we discussed the effective doses, side effects, and drug interactions of haloperidol decanoate. Neuroleptic malignant syndrome is a rare but serious side effect of haloperidol

Remittance: Means of Income for Developing Countries

Developing countries’ economies mainly dependent upon remittnaces. Every year a large number of migrnats leave their native countires and move to different detinations far and wide. This research paper highlights the relationship between the economy of developing countires and flow of remittances. Through this research an attempt has been made to prove an overview over the flow of remittnaces which is very important tool to enhance the finance and economy of low- income and middle income countires. It has also discussed the mechenism of remittances, innovations in the system and the impact of remittances on the economies

The Rural Non-Farm Economy and Poverty Alleviation in Tehsil Sillanwali, District Sargodha

Rural non-farm economic activities are getting wide spread recognition in most of the   developing countries due to increasing inability of farm sector to provide employment and reasonable livelihood to rural households. These activities are disaggregated into three groups (1) Farm based non-agricultural activities, (2) wage-employment, and (3) self-employment and the study estimates the logit models to know the factors to involve in such activities. The study also investigates the factors influencing income among the rural households in Tehsil Sillanwali, district Sargodha. The results indicate that the poor and households owning more animals have more chances to involve in first category, whereas the dependency ratio is inversely related with it.  Education, male to female ratio and household size are the significant determinant of the second type activities. Households owning capital assets have more chances to involve in the third type category. Whereas the results for income model depict that education; land-ownership and involvement in non-farm economic activities are found to be significant factors to affect the household income

Comparison of Sublingual Misoprostol and Manual Vacuum Aspiration for the Treatment of Incomplete Abortion in First Trimester in Terms of Frequency of Decreased Haemoglobin Levels

    Get PDF
Background: To compare efficacy of manual vacuum aspiration with sublingual misoprostol for the treatment of incomplete abortion in terms of frequency of blood loss and decreased haemoglobin. Methods: In this randomized controlled trial, patients with incomplete abortion, open cervical os, vaginal bleeding, history of vaginal bleeding during this pregnancy and uterine size of less than or equal to 12wks menstrual period were included. Consenting women were randomized to either Group A who received a single dose of 600 microgram of sublingual misoprostol or Group B who underwent manual vacuum aspiration for evacuation of retained products of conception. Both groups comprised of 150 patients each. Pre and post (after 48 hours) treatment haemoglobin levels were measured. Results: Mean fall in haemoglobin level <1g/dl from baseline level was seen in misoprostol group while a mean fall of <0.5g/dl from baseline level was observed in MVA group (p<0.001, 95% CI, t=1.64, eta squared=0.006). A significant association was found with haemoglobin level, parity and age, with p=0.001, p= 0.05, p=0.02 respectivelyConclusion: The efficacy of manual vacuum aspiration (MVA) is indicated by lower level of blood loss (Hb<0.5g/dl from baseline) as compared to 600μg sublingual misoprostol. MVA is associated with less complications than misoprostol
