Power distribution loss reduction using Cuckoo search

The distribution system has the most portion power loss compared to the transmission and generation systems. One of the effective methods to reduce the power loss in the system is by reconfiguring the existing network. In distribution system, there are two types of switches, which are sectionalizing switches and tie-switches. Reconfiguration process changes the status of those switches until the objective is achieved. In this study, the reconfiguration method is proposed for distribution system using the Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CSA) method. The system used is a standard IEEE 33-bus radial distribution system. The main objective is to reduce the power loss in the system while satisfying the distribution constraints. The proposed method is used to give an optimal configuration of distribution network for power loss reduction and its validity is done by comparing it with Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO)

Factors associated with total satisfaction with food-related life among elderly in Rumah Seri Kenangan, Selangor

Background: There are various factors that may alter elderly relationship with food as they get older and eventually their satisfaction with food-related life (SWFL). Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the associations between SWFL and socio-demographic factors, dietary intake, food access and malnutrition risk among elderly in Rumah Seri Kenangan. Socio-demographic, Mini- Nutritional Assessment (MNA), Experiences of food access (Naithani et al., 2009) and SWFL (Grunert et al., 2007) were assessed using sets of questionnaires. Dietary intake and anthropometric measurements were assessed using forms. All statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS version 21. Result: A total of 57 elderly were participated in this study where 47% of them were male and 53% were female. 40.4% of the subjects were at risk of malnutrition and 12.3% was malnourished. Male subjects consumed significantly higher in total energy and protein intake than female (p=0.008 and 0.034 respectively). However, 89.5% of subjects did not achieve for both recommended energy and protein intake of RNI. Experience with food access showed that majority of subjects had greater difficulty with physical barrier domain of food access (p=0.086) and the mean total score of each items in SWFL of 4.91 which indicated that elderly was somewhat agree with their SWFL. However, socio-demographic backgrounds, dietary intake, risk of malnutrition and food access were not associated with total SWFL Conclusion: Majority of subjects experienced difficulties in physical barrier domain and quite satisfied with their food-related life. Thus, improvement in the nutritional status can be achieved by providing adequate nutrition and enhancing food availability and accessibility to elderly in care homes

Factors Contributing to the Presence of Depression in an Online Distance Learner: A systematic review

Studies show that online learners are depressed when committing themselves to online learning. However, little data are available about the factors that contribute to the presence of depression. This study aims to reveal the factors by conducting a systematic literature review on six online databases. Based on the review, this study has found that the factors could be categorised into poor perception of online learning mode, infrastructure, resources and support issues, personal weakness and problem, and the COVID-19 phenomenon. Given the findings, the COVID-19 phenomenon interestingly seemed to be the main factor and should be further investigated in the future. Bilateral facial nerve palsy secondary to an atypical presentation of Gullain-Barré syndrome

Bilateral simultaneous facial nerve palsy is an extremely rare clinical entity and may occur in association with a variety of neurological, infectious, neoplastic or degenerative disorders. We describe a patient, who presented with facial diplegia and normal reflexes on examination. During the entire hospitalization, he developed no motor weakness and remained ambulatory. Whether treatment is warranted for this and other milder variants of Gullain-Barré syndrome is also discussed. Atypical presentations with preserved or brisk reflexes, can be a diagnostic dilemma

Depreciation between Conventional and Green Office Buildings

AbstractThe principal aims of this paper are; (1) to determine the rate of depreciation for certified green and conventional purpose-built office (PBO) and; (2) to assess the relationship between building categories and green building classifications toward influencing the rental depreciation of PBO buildings. Using cross sectional survey of twenty-seven buildings in Golden Triangle area of Kuala Lumpur, the data collected were analysed using Frequency and Descriptive statistics to establish the rate of depreciation for green and conventional PBO buildings. Furthermore, the correlation and regression techniques were used to assess the significance of building categories and classifications in influencing the rental depreciation of PBO buildings. This study successfully identifies the average rate of depreciation within the dataset, with 46.77 percent. In comparison of average depreciation rate between green office buildings and conventional, the rate was observed higher in conventional class as to contrast with green class PBO buildings. Results from the correlation analysis explain the age, building categories and classifications were strongly correlated to the rental depreciation. Lastly, regression results evidenced the building categories and classifications significantly predict the rental depreciation model in 2014

Large Scale Topographic Map Comparison Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Imagers And Real Time Kinematic (RTK)

Large scale topographical mapping is important in geospatial industries in providing high resolution 3D geospatial data sources. The field of aerial photogrammetry also plays an important role in the surveying scope and map production. Nowadays, the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) platform is a quick way for low altitude aerial data acquisition for mapping. For collecting ground details data at the land-scape level, real time kinematic global positioning system (RTK GPS) is a useful tool for Ground-based topographic mapping. RTK GPS is mobile, collects data quickly at field, and measures elevation within an accuracy of 1 – 5 cm. This work aims to do a comparison of topo-graphic map generated by UAV imagers and by RTK GPS in term of accuracy. The study was conducted using UAV with high resolution non-metric digital compact camera while the ground control point were established using static observation method and ground detail survey using RTK observation method.
