HT-Paxos: High Throughput State-Machine Replication Protocol for Large Clustered Data Centers

Paxos is a prominent theory of state machine replication. Recent data intensive Systems those implement state machine replication generally require high throughput. Earlier versions of Paxos as few of them are classical Paxos, fast Paxos and generalized Paxos have a major focus on fault tolerance and latency but lacking in terms of throughput and scalability. A major reason for this is the heavyweight leader. Through offloading the leader, we can further increase throughput of the system. Ring Paxos, Multi Ring Paxos and S-Paxos are few prominent attempts in this direction for clustered data centers. In this paper, we are proposing HT-Paxos, a variant of Paxos that one is the best suitable for any large clustered data center. HT-Paxos further offloads the leader very significantly and hence increases the throughput and scalability of the system. While at the same time, among high throughput state-machine replication protocols, HT-Paxos provides reasonably low latency and response time

Opportunities and Barriers to Promoting Public Transit Use in a Midsize Canadian City

This paper reports results from a survey of commute patterns of Queen’s University employees, the second largest employer based in the midsize city of Kingston, Ontario. Very few systematic analyses of travel behaviour have been reported for midsize cities (i.e., population 100,000 to 500,000). Our survey results indicate that the vast majority of the survey respondents remain firmly entrenched in using a private automobile as their primary commute mode. More than 50% of the employees commute by car, and only 5% commute by transit year round. An interesting finding is that there is some mode switching between private automobile and public transit by season, i.e. drive to work during spring and summer seasons and take public transit during fall and/or winter. These seasonal transit users could potentially be encouraged to use transit more regularly with appropriate interventions. The findings also reveal that unavailability of daily or weekly parking permits on campus forcesthe employees to purchase monthly car-parking permits. This is problematic since possession of a monthly parking permit becomes a strong motivation to drive to work regularly, and a strong barrier to even occasional use of public transit. The respondents suggested employer-subsidized transit passes, a more reliable transit schedule, and higher parking costs would encourage them to use public transit more

Wireless sensor networks are becoming an integral part of household & industrial technology, & the usage & acceptance expected to rise dramatically with the advent of IOT. Thus we need of the highly energy efficient, wireless sensor network for data collection. Our proposed system is a hierarchical architecture wireless senor network based on tree topology along with dynamic energy saving techniques. In this paper Artificial intelligence based transmitter power variation by estimation of distance is employed to save battery power while data is transmitted. Also, to save energy during sleep circuitry has been devised, dual stack design sleep power consumption are verified using tanner tools, the entire hierarchical WSN is modelled & tested using MATLAB

Predictive significance of C reactive protein in spontaneous preterm delivery: a prospective cohort study

    Get PDF
Background: To evaluate the predictive significance of C- reactive protein in spontaneous preterm delivery. Methods: A group of 280 pregnant women between 12-22 weeks of gestational age attending antenatal clinic were included in a prospective cohort and followed through the pregnancy, delivery and early puerperium till discharge. Finally details of 250 women were available for analysis. CRP estimation in early pregnancy is done. Patients followed up to delivery. Gestational age determined by LMP or ultrasound estimation. Status of the newborn at birth, and at discharge, and its gestational age is noted. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics like chi-square test, p-value and odds ratio. Main outcome measures gestational age at delivery and neonatal condition at discharge. Results: Out of 250 patients, 78 (31.2%) were CRP positive and 172 (68.8%) were CRP negative. CRP positivity showed positive association with preterm labour with odds ratio 2.384 (95% CI: 1.153-4.928 & p value 0.01). Neonatal morbidity & mortality was also higher in newborns of CRP positive mothers. Conclusions: CRP positivity in early pregnancy is associated with nearly a two fold increased risk of preterm delivery. Neonatal complications like preterm, low birth weight, septicaemia, birth asphyxia and others are more common in CRP positive mothers

Production Planning and Production Control systems are some of the keys that determine the development of modern production systems. The article presents the importance of a flexibility factor in the process of manufacturing, planning, and control systems development during the 20th century. Finally, actual problems and trends in the production system design and control over the design were perceived in addition to possible feasible directions of the development of manufacturing systems, probably in the 21st century were specified. Production planning and production control are usually painstaking to be one of the most noteworthy issues in the planning and operation of a manufacturing structure. A better planning system has a significant bang on cost reduction, increased productivity, customer satisfaction, and overall spirited improvement for a product. Also, the current customer demand for prominent diversity products has put into an increase in product complications that further lay emphasis on necessitates for superior planning. Proficient planning leads to the amplification in capability exploitation competence and, therefore, thereby reducing the operational time required to intact jobs and accordingly escalating the profitability of an organization in the current spirited environment. There are different systems of manufacturing, planning, and control for a job-shop together with flow-shop in which the jobs are to be a progression through a series of machines for an optimizing number of required performance measure

This paper present the design strategy for optimization of loaded meshed face gear set. Genetic algorithms are being widely used for optimization, search and neural network synthesis. A lot of work has been conducted using genetic algorithm for different engineering problems related to scheduling and process planning in industrial engineering, network optimization in computer engineering. The work dissertation deals with the optimization of loaded meshed face gear sets using genetic algorithm. Attention is focused on reducing the pressure of gear set subjected to constraints on the maximum pressure, contact location, pressure at slice 1 and pressure at slice 11. The optimum gear set using Genetic Algorithm calculate the pressure. Keywords:Genetic algorithm, loaded meshed face gear, optimization
