    Dynamics of Global Entanglement under Decoherence

    We investigate the dynamics of global entanglement, the Meyer-Wallach measure, under decoherence, analytically. We study two important class of multi-partite entangled states, the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger and the W state. We obtain exact results for various models of system-environment interactions (decoherence). Our results shows distinctly different scaling behavior for these initially entangled states indicating a relative robustness of the W state, consistent with previous studies.Comment: 5 pages and 5 figure

    Investigation of the field-induced ferromagnetic phase transition in spin polarized neutron matter: a lowest order constrained variational approach

    In this paper, the lowest order constrained variational (LOCV) method has been used to investigate the magnetic properties of spin polarized neutron matter in the presence of strong magnetic field at zero temperature employing AV18AV_{18} potential. Our results indicate that a ferromagnetic phase transition is induced by a strong magnetic field with strength greater than 1018 G10^{18}\ G, leading to a partial spin polarization of the neutron matter. It is also shown that the equation of state of neutron matter in the presence of magnetic field is stiffer than the case in absence of magnetic field.Comment: 23 pages, 9 figures Phys. Rev.     Abstract Three triggers result in two measurable outputs from polymeric sensors: multiresponsive polyampholytic graft copolymers respond to pH‐value and temperature, as well as the type and concentration of metal cations and therefore, allow the transformation of external triggers into simply measurable outputs (cloud point temperature (T CP ) and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of encapsulated silver nanoparticles). The synthesis relies on poly(dehydroalanine) (PDha) as the reactive backbone and gives straightforward access to materials with tunable composition and output. In particular, a rather high sensitivity toward the presence of Cu 2+ , Co 2+ , and Pb 2+ metal cations is found

    Assessing the toxic effects of hydroalcoholic extract of Stachys lavandulifolia Vahl on rat's liver

    Aims: Stachys lavandulifolia Vahl is a frequently used plant to treat different diseases, but its probable toxic effects have not been reported yet. This study aimed to study the toxicity of the extract on rats' liver. Methods: In this experimental study, 100 rats were designated into 10 groups and injected normal saline or Stachys lavandulifolia Vahl extract at 50, 100, 150, and 200 mg/kg, intraperitoneally for 28 days. Four case groups and one control group were examined for ALT, AST and ALP after one month and the other groups were evaluated after two months. Results: In the first month, the increase of ALP at all doses and the increase of AST at 200 mg/kg was significant, compared to the control group (p<0.05). In the second month, AST increased at the dosage of 150mg/kg, and ALP decreased at the dosage of 100 mg/kg, compared to the control group (p<0.05). Histopathological assessment showed a significant dose dependent increase both in necrotic-inflammatory reactions and fibrotic lesions, in the first and second months, compared to the control group (p<0.001). Conclusions: The Stachys lavandulifolia extract injected intraperitoneally has hepatotoxic effect, which is not eliminated by the drug withdrawal.     Experimental and Numerical Simulation of the Effect of Particles on Flow Structures in Secondary Sedimentation Tanks

    Sedimentation tanks are designed for removal of floating solids in water flowing through the water treatment plants. These tanks are one of the most important parts of water treatment plants and their performance directly affects the functionality of these systems. Flow pattern has an important role in the design and performance improvement of sedimentation tanks. In this work, an experimental study of particle-laden flow in a rectangular sedimentation tank has been performed. Kaolin was used as solid particles in these experiments. Also, a numerical simulation was developed using the finite volume method with a k-ε turbulent model. The results of the numerical model agree well with the experimental data. Hydrodynamic parameters and flow patterns of the fresh water flow and particle-laden flow are also compared in this study. The results show that the existence of particles completely changes the flow structures. It seems that the main reason for this phenomenon is the particles settling. Our experimental observations and numerical results show that parameters such as the maximum streamwise velocity, fully developed location, shear stress coefficient at the bottom of the tank and so on are different in water-containing particles compared to pure water and the inlet concentration strongly intensifies the differences

    Utility of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Inhibitors in the Treatment of Ovarian Cancer: From Concept to Application

    Despite recent advances in the management of ovarian cancer, it remains the most lethal gynecologic malignancy. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) has been shown to play a pivotal role in the progression of ovarian cancer leading to the eventual development of malignant ascites. On this basis, agents rendering VEGF ineffective by neutralizing VEGF (bevacizumab), blocking its receptors (aflibercept), or interfering with the postreceptor signaling pathways (sunitinib) provide us with the rational treatment options. These agents are generally used in combination with the standard chemotherapeutic drugs. Here, we discuss the basis of and the logic behind the use of these agents in the treatment of epithelial ovarian cancer, as well as their evaluation in different preclinical and clinical studies

    Instructional Strategies for Motivating and Engraining Generation Z Students in Their Own Learning Process

    In the last few years, a number of significant research studies were conducted focusing on identifying and determining the root cause and also factors that critically contribute to students failure and success in higher education. These studies have enabled educators to evaluate the underlying causes by analyzing different perspectives presented by students, faculty and academic leaders. Various studies were conducted and published in the past that have addressed the same issue. For example, in three related studies conducted and presented at the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) conference in Chicago, Illinois, the surveyed participants (students, faculty, and academic leaders) provided concrete root-cause factors for student’s failure at college and university level. Student’s academic readiness, self-motivation, study habits, and students attitude towards education were the most mentioned root-causes by both, faculty and academic leaders (Appendix 1). During the studies, all participants agreed upon the fact that in order to succeed, students should have clear mindsets and should be aware of the reasons and requirements they will need to meet in order to enroll in a specific course. They should be thoroughly aware of their purpose for attending a school beyond just getting passing grades and a degree to get jobs.   However, all three surveyed groups strongly believe that it is not only the student’s responsibility, but also the responsibility of instructors and college administration to keep students motivated after admitting them to their colleges, programs, and courses (Cherif, Movahedzadeh, Adams, Martyn 2013; 2014; 2015).  In this paper, we explore the implementation of some proposed recommendations from various research studies for improving students learning and instructors teaching in a classroom setting.
