Indonesians have been using herbal medicines for a long time to cure some illnesses. Carica papaya L is an example of an herb that contains papain enzymes, saponins, lysozymes, lipases, flavonoids, polyphenols and vitamin C. These  ingredients are believed to be beneficial for the wound healing process. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of topical application of ethanolic extract of Carica papaya L to the healing process of rat mouth ulcer. Subjects were 32 Wistar rats divided into 2 groups (control group and treatment group), each group containing 16 rats. All subjects were made to suffer from ulcers using glacial acetyl acid applied for 40 seconds in the buccal mucosa. Treatment group was treated with papaya leaf ethanolic extract on ulcers twice a day using microbrush, while the ulcer in the control group was not treated with the extract. The ulcerated tissue was biopsied and stained with H&E. Observations were performed on the day 0, 3rd, 7th and 12th on HE slides. Data were observed by looking at three indicators of wound healing i.e. macrophage, angiogenesis and re-epithelisation. Number of macrophages and angiogenesis were analyzed using two-way ANOVA. Data of epithelial thickness were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis test. The post hoc test in the treatment group and the control group on day 0 showed results of p = 1.00. On day 3, day 7 and day 12, the result of p was 0.05. The treatment group on the 7 day compared to the treatment group on the 12 day had p>0.05. In the control group, on day 0 compared to day 3, the results of p>0.05, while the control group day 0 with day 7, 12 had a result of p0.05. These data suggest that the papaya leaf ethanolic extract could accelerate the healing of oral ulcer on the buccal mucosa of wistar rats

Introduction: Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis (SAR) is a common condition characterized by recurrent small, round, or ovoid multiple ulcers with clear boundaries and forming circles. The etiology of SAR is not yet clear, but some literature says SAR can be caused by psychological stress. Environmental changes and re-adaptation during the COVID-19 pandemic can affect stress levels. Materials and Methods: The type of research conducted is analytical observational studies with a cross-sectional design. The research sample was 226 respondents of the undergraduate dental program at the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) class of 2019, 2020, 2021. Each respondent filled out the RASDX questionnaire to find out the existence of SAR and the PSS-10-C questionnaire to assess stress levels in the form of a google form. Then, the data was analyzed using SPSS version 20 with a contingency coefficient test to see the relationship between stress during the COVID-19 pandemic and the incidence of SAR. Results and Discussion: The results showed that the majority of respondents were positive for SAR (20.3%). A total of 12 male respondents were positive for SAR (5.4%) and 34 female respondents were positive for SAR (15%). Measurements of stress levels attributed by the COVID-19 pandemic showed the majority of respondents experienced moderate stress (63.7%). A total of 12 respondents with mild stress, 33 respondents with moderate stress, and 1 respondent with severe stress were positive SAR. The results of the contingency coefficient test showed a value of p = 0.334. Conclusion: There is no relationship between stress during the COVID-19 pandemic and the incidence of SAR. This is thought to be because the causative factors of SAR are multifactorial

Background: Oral mucosa is the first gate of food and water to enter the body. This area, including the lips, is more frequent in contact with various food substances containing flavoring agents; therefore, it is very susceptible to allergy-related stomatitis. This study aims to report the case of allergy-related stomatitis due to food intake.Case: We present a case report of 31 year-old-woman complaining of an uncomfortable and burning sensation in the tongue, hard palate, and lips. The clinical examination showed an erythematous lesion along the mucosal lip. The history revealed that the patient had an atopic allergy to seafood and cold air. She reported that three days before she visited the dentist, she ate seafood with very spicy seasoning. According to the complete blood test, it was revealed that eosinophil and total IgE were high. We diagnose allergy-related stomatitis based on the history, clinical features, and blood test examination. The patient was advised not to eat seafood or spicy food and eliminate the precipitating factors Conclusion: Diagnosis of allergy-related stomatitis can be obtained by anamnesis, clinical examination, and other laboratory testing

Approximately 90% of individuals diagnosed with HIV/AIDS have encountered Oral Candidiasis during the progression of their disease, especially in patients with a reduced CD4+ 200 mm3. Oral Candidiasis is a prevalent opportunistic infection of the oral cavity. Reported a case of a patient with oral candidiasis in an HIV/AIDS with CD4+ below 50 and discussed the mechanism of molecular relationship decreasing count CD4+ with virulence of Candida Albicans. In this report, we present a case of a 35-year-old female who presented with oral candidiasis. The patient's CD4+ count test revealed a level below 50 and HIV test I-II-III reactive. Human immunodeficiency Virus causes a decrease in CD4+ count and leads to opportunistic oral candidiasis infection

In 1981, AIDS was first recognized in the United States. Every year, AIDS cases always increase. The incidence of cross-infection cases in dentists reaches 36% when managing HIV/AIDS patients. Having good knowledge and attitudes can lead to good behavior towards the management of HIV/AIDS patients. The formation of knowledge, attitudes, and good behavior will increase over time, along with the experience of a dentist. This research aims to determine the relationship between the knowledge and attitudes of dental students at RSGM UMY and the management behavior of HIV/AIDS patients. This research is an analytical observation with a cross-sectional approach that used a questionnaire instrument. The respondents of this research were 75 dental students. This research questionnaire includes knowledge, attitudes, and behavior about HIV/AIDS towards the management of HIV/AIDS patients. Data analysis used Chi-square analysis. The results of the descriptive analysis showed that 93.3% of dental students had high knowledge and positive attitudes, and 6.7% had moderate knowledge and were neutral towards HIV/AIDS patients. 77.3% of dental students fell into the good behavior category, 12% in the moderate behavior category, and 10.7% in the bad behavior category. The results of statistical tests using Chi-square obtained p value = 0.456 ( 0.05), indicating no significant relationship between research variables. Based on the results of the research, there was no significant relationship between the knowledge, behavior, and attitudes of dental students at RSGM UMY and the management behavior of HIV/AIDS patients
