The act of circulating research through zines invites participants into the “gift economy” of zine culture, where knowledge is shared within a system of reciprocal generosity and pleasure in opposition to hierarchical and capitalist forms of knowledge exchange. As zines cut through the often strict and inaccessible boundaries of traditional, peer-reviewed publications, they also allow for the circulation of research to broader audiences, making knowledge more accessible. As such, academic zines transform research into a gift to be shared amongst unknown peers, while also situating the mobilization of knowledge as care work. And so, while we are excited to receive abstracts around diverse themes and across disciplines, we ask participants to think about knowledge as a gift and research as care work during their zine-making process. How do these visions of knowledge and research mobilization affect how you view your research, others’ research, and/or yourself

Ciberpunk y arte de los nuevos medios: performance y arte digital

La tesis doctoral Ciberpunk y Arte de los Nuevos Medios: Performance y Arte Digital consiste en la aproximación del fenómeno ciberpunk como expresión literaria y cinematográfica, en el estudio del arte de los nuevos medios, y en la reflexión artística que surge de la amalgama de estos conceptos. Su objetivo es comentar a un nivel multidisciplinario la influencia de la teoría y la estética ciberpunk en la construcción de mecanismos creativos, y estudiar la integración de las ideas del ciberpunk en las practicas artísticas. El ciberpunk se introduce mediante términos etimológicos, filosóficos y estéticos como un género literario que emergió en los años 1980, realizando un estudio sobre sus precursores, sus creadores más emblemáticos y su expresión visual. El arte de los nuevos medios se aproxima a través de la definición de los medios tecnológicos y su lenguaje, y se localiza su contexto histórico destacando las contribuciones de los pioneros del arte de la computación. La aportación teórica de esta investigación consiste en la combinación de las ideas y los conceptos que se expresan en el ciberpunk con la posibilidad de crear los mecanismos artísticos donde pueden surgir narrativas digitales y performativas, relacionadas con las tecnologías virtuales, la mitología y la construcción del cuerpo. En concreto, se analizan las teorías del post-humanismo e in-humanismo, la idea del cíborg y la extensión tecnológica del cuerpo, y se guía hacía las tendencias de las tecnologías del cuerpo actuales, relacionando las ideas del Ciberpunk sobre una cultura abierta del “Hazlo Tu Mísmo” con el estado actual de la creación mediátic

Oiko-nomic Threads

Oiko-nomic Threads is a collective art project for an algorithmically controlled knitting machine and open data. The installation represents a system commenting on the notion of work through the production of a textile in real-time. By means of rethinking, modifying and redefining the functionality of an obsolete knitting machine and employing financial data from the databases of the Greek National Manpower Employment Offices as well as selected patterns inspired by Greek folk art, a textile is generated algorithmically. This way, the woven textile is to be understood as both a document of its own making as well as a dynamic base of archival resources which presents a computer-generated interpretation of the original financial data

Ειδική Αγωγή: Από τον Επιθεωρητή στον Σχολικό Σύμβουλο – Συμβολή στην ποιότητα της εκπαίδευσης;

Στην παρούσα διπλωματική εργασία παρουσιάζεται το σύστημα ελέγχου, εποπτείας και καθοδήγησης της ελληνικής εκπαίδευσης, όπως είχε αναπτυχθεί από την εισαγωγή του θεσμού του Επιθεωρητή μέχρι την αντικατάστασή του από τον Σχολικό Σύμβουλο. Ιδιαίτερη έμφαση δίνεται στον θεσμό του Επιθεωρητή Ειδικής Αγωγής και του Σχολικού Συμβούλου Ειδικής Αγωγής. Ωστόσο, η εν λόγω εργασία εκτείνεται μέχρι την τωρινή ψήφιση του Νόμου 4547/2018, ο οποίος προβλέπει την κατάργηση του θεσμού των Σχολικών Συμβούλων. Ειδικότερα, παρουσιάζονται κυρίως οι ελληνικές νομοθετικές ρυθμίσεις αναπροσαρμογής των μηχανισμών εποπτείας του εκπαιδευτικού συστήματος. Ακόμα, εξετάζονται οι ρόλοι και οι δραστηριότητες των Σχολικών Συμβούλων κι ιδιαιτέρως του Σχολικού Συμβούλου Ειδικής Αγωγής. Επίσης, η εργασία αυτή στοχεύει στην ανάδειξη της συμβολής του Σχολικού Συμβούλου στη διοικητική και στην εκπαιδευτική διαδικασία, στη βελτίωση της ποιότητας της εκπαίδευσης στις «κοινωνίες της γνώσης», καθώς και στην αξιολόγηση του εκπαιδευτικού έργου. Επιπλέον, διερευνάται κατά πόσο η Πολιτεία και οι φορείς της κρατικής εκπαιδευτικής πολιτικής αναγνώρισαν νομοθετικά το έργο των Σχολικών Συμβούλων και ιδιαίτερα των Συμβούλων Ειδικής Αγωγής στη χώρα μας κι αν στήριξαν έμπρακτα το πολύτιμο, πολυσύνθετο και καθοριστικό εποπτικό έργο τους σε μία περίοδο οικονομικής κρίσης. Αυτό επιτυγχάνεται κυρίως μέσα από την ποιοτική ανάλυση και την ερμηνεία του περιεχομένου ελληνικών νομοθετικών κειμένων που αφορούσαν τη θέσπιση, την εξέλιξη και τους μετασχηματισμούς του θεσμού της εποπτείας. Στην ανάλυση δεδομένων της παρούσης ερευνητικής διατριβής αναδεικνύονται κι ερμηνεύονται οι κύριοι ρόλοι των Σχολικών Συμβούλων, καθώς κι η συμβολή τους στη βελτίωση της ποιότητας στην εκπαίδευση και στην αξιολόγηση. Τέλος, παρουσιάζονται οι δυσκολίες που συνάντησαν οι Σχολικοί Σύμβουλοι κατά την προσπάθεια βελτίωσης της ποιότητας της παρεχόμενης εκπαίδευσης, τα οποία οφείλονταν στην κρατική αδυναμία στήριξης αυτού του μακροχρόνιου ελληνικού εποπτικού θεσμού κι εν τέλει συνέβαλαν στην κατάργηση του θεσμού.In the current diploma thesis the systems of control, supervision and guidance of Greek education as it has been developed from the introduction of the institution of the Inspector until its replacement by the School Counselor, are presented. Particular emphasis is given on the institution of the Special Education Inspector and the Special Education School Counselor. However, the current research extends up to the current adoption of Law 4547/2018, which predicts the abolition of the institution of School Counselors. In particular, the Greek legislative arrangements for adapting the monitoring mechanisms of the education system are mainly presented. Furthermore, the roles and activities of the School Counselors and in particular the Special Education School Counselor are examined. Also, this work aims at highlighting the contribution of the School Counselor to the administrative and educational process, to the improvement of the quality of education in the "knowledge societies" and to the evaluation of the educational work. In addition, it is investigated whether the State and the state educational policy bodies recognized legislatively the work of the School Counselors and especially of the Special Education School Counselors in our country and whether they actually supported their precious, complex and decisive supervisory work in a period of economic crisis. This is achieved mainly through the qualitative analysis and interpretation of the content of the Greek legislative texts, which involved the establishment, development and transformations of the institution of supervision. The data analysis of the current thesis highlights and interprets the main roles of the School Counselors, as well as their contribution to the improvement of the quality in education and evaluation. Finally, the difficulties encountered by the School Counselors attempting to improve the quality of the provided education, which resulted from the state's inability to support this long-standing Greek supervisory institution and ultimately to the abolition of the institution, are also discussed

Attempts, failures, trials and errors. Notes on an exhibition of failed prototypes and rejected projects

In this paper, we present the history, the concept and the results of “Attempts, Failures, Trials and Errors” exhibition project which was first presented in the frame of Piksel Festival in Bergen, Norway (November 2017) and later on at “Salonul de Proiecte”, Bucharest, Romania (February 2018). The project aimed to incite the e-textiles artists and designers to reflect upon the way they are engaging with their failures, as well as to the way in which they use these failures to better understand the context in which they are working and to continue to experiment. Our approach reverses the common R&D constructivist methods, by using deconstruction as a process of investigation in the field of wearable technologies and e-textiles. By questioning the ideas and the concepts of failure and success, the project puts an emphasis on art’s capacity to be critical, while at the same time to poetically and self-ironically address contemporary challenges and concerns
