On Rubin's variant of the p-adic Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture II

Let E be an elliptic curve over Q with complex multiplication by the ring of integers of an imaginary quadratic field K. In 1991, by studying a certain special value of the Katz two-variable p-adic L-function lying outside the range of pp-adic interpolation, K. Rubin formulated a p-adic variant of the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture when E(K)E(K) is infinite, and he proved that his conjecture is true for E(K) of rank one. When E(K) is finite, however, the statement of Rubin's original conjecture no longer applies, and the relevant special value of the appropriate pp-adic L-function is equal to zero. In this paper we extend our earlier work and give an unconditional proof of an analogue of Rubin's conjecture when E(K) is finite.Comment: Final version. To appear in Mathematische Annalen

Toxic effect of Raphia vinifera on fish leech (Piscicola geometra)

This study examines acute toxicity of Raphia vinifera on fish leech, Piscicola geometra. The leeches with a mean total length of (TL) 4.2+1.0cm were exposed to various concentrations of both crude powdered and ethanolic extracts of the botanical. Median lethal concentration (LC50) was determined with static-renewal tests using logarithmic and arithmetic graphic methods. The LC50 (for 96 hours of crude powdered (aqueous) extracts of the botanical on Piscicola geometra was 1.10 ppm arithmetically and 1.14ppm logarithmically. The 95% confidence limits was 0.10ppm arithmetically and 0.12ppm logarithmically. The LC50 of ethanolic extract of the poison at 96-h was 0.5ppm arithmetically and 0.48ppm logarithmically. The 95% confidence limits were less than 0.10ppm. The use of extracts of R. vinifera in the control of leeches in fish ponds is discusse

Anticyclotomic Iwasawa theory of CM elliptic curves

We study the Iwasawa theory of a CM elliptic curve EE in the anticyclotomic Zp\mathbf{Z}_p-extension of the CM field, where pp is a prime of good, ordinary reduction for EE. When the complex LL-function of EE vanishes to even order, the two variable main conjecture of Rubin implies that the Pontryagin dual of the pp-power Selmer group over the anticyclotomic extension is a torsion Iwasawa module. When the order of vanishing is odd, work of Greenberg shows that it is not a torsion module. In this paper we show that in the case of odd order of vanishing the dual of the Selmer group has rank exactly one, and we prove a form of the Iwasawa main conjecture for the torsion submodule.Comment: Final version. This paper aim at study strategic influence of promotional mix on organisation sale turnover in manufacturing organisation. The research data were gathered through the use of secondary data and primary data, secondary data included 6years annual report comprising the sales turnover (2005-2009) and questionnaire which is an instrument of primary data collection. The questionnaires were administered to the workers of 7up Company and some customers in Solebo Estate in Lagos. The researcher adopted the simple percentage and regression model for the analysis of the collected data.. The result of the findings revealed that strategic promotional mix influences the sale turnover with little 25% while other variable not included in the variable tested takes the larger 75% that will rapidly lead to organisation growth. Since promotional mix constitute few % of variable that can push an organisation to the highest level, therefore other factors of marketing mix such as product development, effective pricing, distribution of right quality and quantity to the consumers should be appropriately considered.Strategic promotional mix, Marketing mix, Regression Model, push and pull strategy.

Strategies for the establishment of profitable fish farms in Nigeria

    Get PDF
Cost projections for the establishment of a fish farm in Nigeria was conducted. It is shown that fish farming should be a lucrative venture. However, many private fish farms are not making the desired profits because of a variety of problems. Besides managerial incompetence, availability of fingerlings for stocking in the ponds is shown to be a serious handicap to the success of investments in a fish farm. It is suggested that where the funds are available, each farm should be equipped with facilities for raising its needs of fingerlings. Since useful capital would be involved and knowledgeable experts to run the hatcheries are few, it is recommended that fish farms within a state or adjacent states should combine to establish viable cooperative hatcherie

Channel characterisation of cooperative relaying power line communication systems

© 2016 IEEE. Power line communication (PLC) technology offers a promising platform for numerous communication applications. The power lines however can significantly attenuate communication signals operating in high frequency band. For this reason, multi-hop PLC systems become desirable. In this paper, we investigates the effect of multi-hop relaying on the power line channel transfer function. Measured results are compared with results obtained from sumulations in Matlab. Results show that the presence of relays between a transmitting and a receiving PLC nodes can intensify the attenuation and frequency selectivity. Measurements show that maximum attenuation increases with number of relays

This study was aimed at documenting information of ethno-botanical survey of plants traditional used as medicine in the treatment of fibroid in Ogun and Osun States, Nigeria. Structured and open-ended questionnaire were administered to respondents for data collection. Multistage sampling technique with a four stage design, simple random and purposive sampling techniques were used for this study. Four and six Local Government Areas were selected purposively from Ogun and Osun States, respectively. A total number of 192 respondents were interviewed; results showed that majority of the respondents were males in Ogun state (72.8%) and Osun state (65.8%). The mean ages of the respondents for Ogun and Osun state were 49.3 years and 50.2 years respectively. Most of the respondents had secondary school education in Ogun (34.6%) and Osun (33.3%) states respectively, while, 71.6% and 64.9% of the traditional healers and herb sellers were Muslims in Ogun and Osun states respectively. A sum of 102 plants species belonging to 49 families were found. Euphorbiaceae had the highest frequency of family species followed by Annonaceae. Keywords: Ethnobotany, Medicinal plants, Fibroid treatmen

Marriage, Markets, and Mentorship: An Ethnography on the Ambitions of and Obstacles Facing Nigerian Women Micro-Entrprenuers

    Get PDF
This paper explores the challenges facing women micro-entrepreneurs in Lagos, Nigeria by way of a case study of Peace Akpotu, a salon-owner operating in Ajegunle. Research entailed the use of participant observation and ethnography to uncover several difficulties faced by women entrepreneurs, including the burdens of relocation, domestic duties, and childbirth upon marriage. Additional obstacles, such as a less economically resourced customer base, poor mechanisms to determine customer preferences, and steep competition compound with limited access to business education for women entrepreneurs and a volatile market, further complicating business operations. Moreover, a reframing of what constitutes a successful business allows for the value of positive externalities irrespective of profit from women-owned business to be considered, including mentorship, the creation of a safe social space for women, and women’s empowerment. Opportunities to enhance these positive externalities and mitigate challenges are explored
