First Result of Net-Charge Jet-Correlations from STAR
We presented results on azimuthal correlation of net-charge with high
trigger particles. It is found that the net-charge correlation shape is similar
to that of total-charge. On the near-side, the net-charge and total-charge
spectra have similar shape and both are harder than the inclusives. On
the away-side, the correlated spectra are not much harder than the inclusives,
and the net-charge/total-charge ratio increases with and is similar to
the inclusive ratio
Light curves for bump Cepheids computed with a dynamically zoned pulsation code
The dynamically zoned pulsation code developed by Castor, Davis, and Davison was used to recalculate the Goddard model and to calculate three other Cepheid models with the same period (9.8 days). This family of models shows how the bumps and other features of the light and velocity curves change as the mass is varied at constant period. The use of a code that is capable of producing reliable light curves demonstrates that the light and velocity curves for 9.8 day Cepheid models with standard homogeneous compositions do not show bumps like those that are observed unless the mass is significantly lower than the 'evolutionary mass.' The light and velocity curves for the Goddard model presented here are similar to those computed independently by Fischel, Sparks, and Karp. They should be useful as standards for future investigators
Hill's Equation with Random Forcing Parameters: Determination of Growth Rates through Random Matrices
This paper derives expressions for the growth rates for the random 2 x 2
matrices that result from solutions to the random Hill's equation. The
parameters that appear in Hill's equation include the forcing strength and
oscillation frequency. The development of the solutions to this periodic
differential equation can be described by a discrete map, where the matrix
elements are given by the principal solutions for each cycle. Variations in the
forcing strength and oscillation frequency lead to matrix elements that vary
from cycle to cycle. This paper presents an analysis of the growth rates
including cases where all of the cycles are highly unstable, where some cycles
are near the stability border, and where the map would be stable in the absence
of fluctuations. For all of these regimes, we provide expressions for the
growth rates of the matrices that describe the solutions.Comment: 22 pages, 3 figure
Two-dimensional discrete wavelet analysis of multiparticle event topology in heavy ion collisions
The event-by-event analysis of multiparticle production in high energy hadron
and nuclei collisions can be performed using the discrete wavelet
transformation. The ring-like and jet-like structures in two-dimensional
angular histograms are well extracted by wavelet analysis. For the first time
the method is applied to the jet-like events with background simulated by event
generators, which are developed to describe nucleus-nucleus collisions at LHC
energies. The jet positions are located quite well by the discrete wavelet
transformation of angular particle distribution even in presence of strong

Does Positronium Form in the Universe ?
Positronium (the bound state of electron and positron) has been thought to be
formed after proton decay (yr) through collisional recombination and
then decays by pair annihilation, thereby changing the matter content of the
universe. We revisit the issue of the formation of positronium in the long-term
future of the universe in light of recent indication that the universe is
dominated by dark energy and dark matter. We find that if the equation of state
of dark energy is less than -1/3 (including the cosmological constant
), then the formation of positronium would not be possible, while it is
possible through bound-bound transitions for -1/3\siml w\siml-0.2, or through
collisional recombination for w\simg-0.2. The radiation from \epm pair
annihilation cannot dominate over \epm, while that from proton decay will
dominate over baryon and \epm for a while but not over dark matter.Comment: 13 pages, to appear in JCA
