    Erzurum’daki İlköğretim 6., 7., 8. Sınıf Öğrencilerinin Akran Zorbalığının Çeşitli Değişkenler Açısından İncelenmesi

    The purpose of this study is to determine the significance of the effects of students’ peer bullying on variables of academic success and disciplinary status of students at the second stage of the primary schools; and to analyze prediction degree of predictor variables of age and number of siblings regarding peer bullying. The study was conducted with the participation of students studying at 6th, 7th, and 8th grades of primary schools within city center of the Erzurum province and surrounding towns in Turkey. Data of the study were obtained through Bully and Victim Determining Scale-Child Form. The difference was found in favor of the students who are subjected to bullying. Predictor variables of age and number of siblings were found to predict peer bullying scores of students at a significant level.Araştırmada, ilköğretim 6., 7., 8. Sınıf öğrencilerinin akran zorbalıklarının akademik başarı, disiplin durumu değişkenlerine göre anlamlı düzeyde farklılaşıp farklılaşmadığı ve yordayıcı değişken olarak analize sokulan yaş ve kardeş sayısı değişkenlerinin akran zorbalığını yordayıp yordamadığının belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma, Türkiye’de Erzurum İli ve merkez ilçelerinde bulunan ilköğretim okulları 6., 7., 8. sınıflarda öğrenim gören öğrenciler üzerinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmada veriler, “Zorba ve Kurban Belirleme Ölçeği Çocuk Formu” ile elde edilmiştir. Öğrencilerin akademik başarı düzeylerine göre, zorbalık yapmada sözel zorbalık ve eşyaya zarar verme; zorbalığa uğramada ise sözel zorbalık boyutlarında anlamlı farklılaşma olduğu görülmüştür. Öğrencilerin disiplin durumlarına göre, zorbalık yapmanın ceza alanlarda anlamlı düzeyde yüksek olduğu bulunmuştur. Yordayıcı değişken olarak analize sokulan yaş ve kardeş sayısının birlikte akran zorbalığı yapma puanlarını anlamlı düzeyde yordadığı görülmüştür

    School Administrators Skills in Organizing the Parent Participation Studies

    The objective of this study is to ascertain administrator, teacher and parent opinions on the level of school administrators’ skills of organising parent participation efforts. The study group of the study conducted according to the descriptive survey model using the quantitative method consists of 273 school administrators, 916 teachers and 395 parents from primary schools, secondary schools and high schools, determined according to the stratified sampling method. The quantitative data of the research were obtained through the ‘scale for school administrators’ skills of organising parent participation efforts' applied to school administrators, teachers and parents after the validity - reliability studies were conducted. The study reached the conclusion that school administrators’ skills in organising parent participation efforts and the parent participation efforts conducted were inadequate

    A qualitative investigation into the classroom teachers new roles in terms of establishing effective classroom management

    Durum çalışmasına dayalı olarak yapılan bu nitel araştırma, etkili sınıf yönetimi oluşturmada sınıf öğretmenlerinin yeni rollerini belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmada verileri toplamak amacıyla araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen sınıf öğretmenlerine (17 kişi) ve eğitim müfettişlerine (6 kişi) yönelik yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler üzerinde içerik analizi yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonuçlarına bakıldığında, sınıf öğretmenlerinin farklı derslerde ve farklı sınıf seviyelerinde kullandığı sınıf yönetimi becerilerinin farklılaştığı; 1. sınıftan son sınıfa doğru sınıf yönetiminin kolaylaştığı bulunmuştur. Etkili sınıf yönetimini engelleyen muhtemel sebeplerden bazıları; çevrenin etkisi, anne-baba tutumu, sık sık öğretmen değiştirme, okul yönetiminin etkisi, öğrencilerin bireysel sıkıntıları, öğretmen (rekabeti) paylaşımının olmaması, öğretmenin yeterli olmayışı, medyanın etkisi, öğrencileri yarıştırmadır. Sınıf yönetiminde etkili olan unsurlardan bazıları; deneyim, kendini yetiştirme, kişisel yetenek, öğretmenlerin paylaşımı, mesleği sevme, çevre, okul yönetiminin desteği, moralin iyi olması, kılık-kıyafet, değişen program ve okulöncesi eğitimi almadır.This qualitative case investigated to determine the new roles of classroom teachers in maintaining effective classroom management. Semi-structured interview form that was developed by the researcher and oriented towards the classroom teachers (17 persons) and education inspectors (6 persons) has been used in the research in order to collect data. Content analysis has been conducted on the obtained data. When results of the research have been examined, classroom management skills of classroom teachers, which they use in different courses, are different; and classroom management gets easier from 1st grade to last grade. Some of the possible reasons that prevent the effective classroom management are as follows: influence of the environment, attitudes of mothers and fathers, frequently changing teachers, the influence of school management, individual problems of students, lack of sharing among teachers (competition among teachers), inadequacy of teachers, influence of media and causing students to race with each other. The factors that are effective in classroom management are as follows: experience, improving oneself, personal skills, sharing among teachers, loving the teaching profession, environment, support from school management, good morale, attire, changing program and having preschool education. Recommendations have been made for implementers and researchers based on the results that have been obtained in the research

    The Relationship between the Effectiveness of Schools and the School Culture Which Is Created In Primary Schools

    This study aims to determine whether there is a meaningful relationship between the effectiveness of schools and the school culture which is created in primary schools. The study is designed in correlation relation survey method is used. By the help of Likert type survey the views of subjects have been taken a total of 215 administrators, 1911 teachers who is in charge of 2007-2008 educational period in 72 various schools in the city centre of Erzurum participates in the study and 40 administrators and 361 teachers presents the available data. In the study during the data analysis, to the identify the school culture profile and school effectiveness arithmetic mean, standard deviation, percentages are found parried sample t test was used to determine the meaningfulness of the administrator and teacher‟s opinions. The relationship between school effectiveness and the school culture is found out by using Pearson Correlation analysis. The effect of different administrator and teacher features on their opinions is calculated by Pearson Correlation Coefficient and compare Correlation Coefficients was used. For statistical analysis used in the study significant level of t test is accepted as .05 and Pearson Correlation Coefficient is accepted as .01. The statistical analysis of the data were realized by the Microsoft Excel 2003 of Software and SPPS 11,0 for Windows programs. According to the findings obtained from this study, it is concluded that there is a top level positive relationship between the school culture and school effectivenes

    The view of school principals about professional development activities they participated: The case of Turkey and United States

    Bu araştırmanın amacı, Türkiye ve Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'nde görev yapan ilköğretim kurumu müdürlerinin katıldıkları mesleki gelişim faaliyetlerinin kapsamlarının belirlenip Türkiye'deki yönetici yetiştirme sürecinin gelişimine katkı sağlamaya yönelik öneriler sunmaktır. Bu doğrultuda, ABD'de Michigan Eyaleti ve Türkiye'de Erzurum ili devlet okullarındaki 31 okul müdürü ile görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmada nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmış, yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler ile elde edilen veriler tümevarım analizi ile analiz edilmiştir. Verilerin çözümlenmesinde Nvivo 8 nitel veri analizi programı kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgulara göre, hizmet içi eğitim konusunda, Erzurum'da görev yapan okul meslektaşlarla yapılan toplantı ve görüşmeler ile uzun süreli yerel hizmet içi eğitim programları okul müdürleri tarafından en fazla yararına inanılan mesleki gelişim faaliyetleri olarak görülmiştir. Michigan Eyaleti okul müdürlerine göre ise, bir mentora sahip olma, meslektaşlar ile yapılan toplantılar ve hizmet içi eğitim programlarına katılım ön plana çıkmaktadır. Özellikle, Michigan Eyaleti'nde görev yapan okul müdürlerinin büyük çoğunluğu, mentorlarının olmasının mesleğin ilk yıllarında kendilerine yardımcı olduğunu belirtmişlerdir.The aim of this study is to determine professional development activities of elementary school principals in Turkey and the United States, reveal the similarities and differences between these activities, and to contribute to the process of school principals’ development in Turkey. For this purpose, 31 primary school principals who serve in Michigan, U.S.A. and Erzurum in Turkey were interviewed. Qualitative research method was used and data obtained via semi-structured interviews were analyzed with inductive analysis technique. NVivo 8 was used to analyze data. In terms of professional development activities, principals in Erzurum indicated that meetings with their colleagues and long-term in-service training programs were the most beneficial professional development activities. According to principals in Michigan, mentorship, meetings with colleagues, and in-service training programs are important. In addition, a majority of school principals in Michigan stated that having mentors provided great benefit for their professional development

    The investigation has been made for determining the Professional self-respect levels of the students who have been educating at Erzurum Atatürk University Kazım Karabekir Teachers’ College Pre-school Mastership Branch the places they inhabit and the person/institution who aided them when they made choose about branches in terms of gender, birth order, high schools they graduate from. The investigation has been managed on total 103 students, 59 from the 1.grade, 44 from the 4. grade, who are educating at Erzurum Atatürk University Kazım Karabekir Teachers’ College Pre-school Mastership Branch. In the investigation “General Knowledge Form” and “Professional Self-respect Scale” which has been developed by Arıcak (1999) have been used in order to have some information regarding them and their families.     Aggression Characteristics of Second Stage Primary School Students

    Within the scope of this study, aggression characteristics of second stage primary school students are intended to be analyzed from the aspect of different variables. Population of this study consists of all second stage primary school students studying in the districts and province center of Erzurum province, Turkey. Sample consists of 430 students randomly chosen out of the population. Data regarding aggression characteristics of students in this study was obtained through the Aggression Scale which was developed by Tuzgöl (1998). Kruskal Wallis, Mann Whitney U, t tests an done way variance analysis (ANOVA) were applied in analysis of the data. According to the findings, a significant difference was found between the scores of students who perceive parents’ attitudes as democratic and as protecting on behalf of the ones who perceive as democratic. However, there was no significant difference found between aggression scores of students from the aspect of the variables of age, gender, education status, parents’ being dead or alive, the settlement they live in, perceived academic success and having disciplinary punishment. Despite this insignificant difference found between the aggression scores of the students from the aspect of above mentioned variables –except for the variable of perceived parents attitudes- are still found to vary between 122-131. Considering the minimum (45) and the maximum (225) scores could be obtained from this scale, it can be asserted that students do exhibit aggressive behaviors to a certain extent
