    Atherosclerosis in geriatric patients known to be healthy

    Background: The aim of the present study is to determine the presence of atherosclerosis in geriatric patients who are known to be healthy and examine sociodemographic and laboratory parameters affecting the presence of atherosclerosis.Method: 90 healthy volunteers including 66(73.3%) non-geriatric ones and 24(26.7%) geriatric ones were included in the study. It was analyzed whether there was a correlation between the two groups in terms of the parameters of gender, age average, alcohol consumption, smoking, carotid intima-media thickness (CA-IMT), and pulse wave velocity (PWV). Sociodemographic and laboratory parameters of the volunteers with and without atherosclerosis in the geriatric group were examined. Results: Among geriatric volunteers (Group 1), 13(54.2%) were male; whereas, among non-geriatric volunteers (Group 2), 41(62.1%) were male. CA-IMT was determined to be higher in Group 1 (averagely 0.80±0.12 mm) than Group 2 (averagely 0.62±0.14 mm) (p:<0.001). PWV was significantly higher in Group 1 (averagely 10.32±1.44 m/s) than Group 2 (6.26±1.09 m/s) (p:<0.001). After PWV or CA-IMT examination, atherosclerosis findings were determined in 12 healthy geriatric volunteers (50%) in Group 1.Conclusion: It should be remembered that even though atherosclerosis can be frequently observed in geriatric individuals who are known to be healthy, it may also go unnoticed. Determination of atherosclerosis with noninvasive methods will be helpful in preventing complications that might be caused by atherosclerosis.

    The real-life efficacy and safety of osimertinib in pretreated advanced non-small cell lung cancer patients with T790M mutation: a Turkish Oncology Group Study

    Introduction Osimertinib, an irreversible third-generation EGFR-TKI, is the standard of care for second-line treatment of T790M-mutant advanced NSCLC patients whose disease progressed after first-line EGFR-TKI therapy. In this multicenter study, we aimed to determine the real-life efficacy and safety of Osimertinib in pretreated advanced NSCLC patients with T790M mutation. Materials and methods This retrospective trial included advanced T790M-mutant pretreated NSCLC patients who received Osimertinib from 24 different centers in Turkey. Primary endpoint was time-to-treatment discontinuation (TTD). Secondary endpoints were objective response rate (ORR), overall survival (OS), and safety. Results Of 163 patients, 68.7% had EGFR exon 19 deletion and 22.7% had exon 21 L858R mutation. Osimertinib was given as second-line treatment in 96 patients (58.9%) and third-line in 48 patients (29.4%). After median of 13-month follow-up, median TTD was 21.6 months with an 82.2% ORR. Estimated median OS was 32.1 months. Grade 3-4 adverse events were seen in 11.7% of the patients. Conclusion Osimertinib is a highly effective option in second- or third-line treatment of NSCLC patients with T790M mutation, with a favorable safety profile

    Electron paramagnetic resonance of Fe3+ in gallium borate: Superposition model analysis

    A series of high quality FexGa1−xBO3 single crystals with 0 ≤ x ≤ 1 was prepared and studied by electron magnetic resonance in the temperature range from 4 to 290 K. At low x, only the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) of diluted Fe3+ ions is present. The EPR spectra for different orientations of the magnetizing field have been computer simulated. With a conventional spin Hamiltonian including the Zeeman and fine-structure terms, two different sets of best-fit parameters have been found. This ambiguity has been resolved on the basis of the general spin Hamiltonian with parameters determined from the crystallographic data using the Newman superposition model. A detailed fitting to the experimental EPR spectra assuming statistical distributions of Fe3+ ligand coordinates has revealed the existence of a certain degree of local disorder in FexGa1−xBO3 single crystals

    Identities on Some Special Poynomials Derived from the Concepts of n -Normed Structures, Accretive Operators and Contraction Mappings

    In this paper, we study the notions of accretive operators, contraction mappings, non-expansive mappings using the idea of n (>1)-normed structures for some relevant results. Further, we define (λ, q) -transform by utilizing the definition of the generating function of q-Genocchi polynomials with weight zero to construct interesting properties related to q-Genocchi polynomials with weight zero and Frobenius–Euler polynomials. Furthermore, we describe p-adic q-λ-transform of higher order and construct a link between q-Genocchi polynomials of higher order with weight zero and higher order Frobenius–Euler polynomials using this transform. Our applications in this paper provide a link between analytic numbers theory and n-normed spaces. © 2016, Shiraz University
