    Review on learning orientations

    Get PDF
The need has arises towards the consideration of individual difference to let learners engage in and responsible for their own learning, retain information longer, apply the knowledge more effectively, have positive attitudes towards the subject, have more interest in learning materials, score higher and have high intrinsic motivation level. As regard to the importance of individual differences, Martinez (2000) has grounded a new theory, which is Intentional Learning Theory that covered individual aspects of cognitive, intention, social and emotion. This theory hypothesizes that the fundamental of understanding how individual learns, interact with an environment, performs, engages in learning, experiences learning, and assimilate and accommodate the new knowledge is by understanding individual’s fundamental emotions and intentions about how to use learning, why it is important, when the suitable time, and how it can accomplish personal goals and change. The intent of this theory is to focus on emotions and intentions of an individual regarding why, when and how learning goals are organized, processed, and achieved. In conclusion, Learning Orientations introduced by this theory describes the disposition of an individual in approaching, managing and achieving their learning intentionally and differently from others

A regent a leader in a regency government level can play important roles in conducting local government tasks to achieve people welfare development in that regency. However, the critical factor in achieving the development objective is determined by personal attributes of and their implementation in the regent jobs. The attributes include social, religious, and technical aspects. Personal social attribute of regent refers to very kind attitute and loyalty to the people and subordinate, maturity and open minded, huaman relation, wise in difficulty situation, not betraying to people and state, and welcoming suggestion, critics, and views of someone else. Religious attribes of a regent include Sidiq character (being honesty), indicated by a strong will, the same condition in saying and acting, and hardworking, Amanah haracter (being trusted), reflected in characters of a regent to be trusted, praiseworthy, and adequacy in professionalism, Fathonah character (having quick intelligence), shown in characters to keep maintaining and implementing the intelligence in scanning and analyzing a situation, and Tabligh character (being conveyer), suggested in character to have adequate capabilities in communication, in networking building, and in conveying the understandable ideas. The technical attributes is related to the ones including the characters of regent to make a decision in every aspect of the regency activities. Given the three personal attributes of a regent, it is expected that they will impact on the regency performance to improve people welfare. Keywords: personal attributes of regent, regency, social, religious, technical skill

The relationship between transformational leadership behaviors, leader-member exchange and organizational citizenship behavior

    Get PDF
It has been proposed that issues of transformational and transactional leadership behavior should be incorporated in the study for predicting subordinate citizenship behaviors, as both the theories are based on transformational leadership behaviors. This research had two objectives: to assess the impact of six dimensions of transformational leadership behaviors – contribution and affect – on citizenship behavior and to test the mediating impact of the LMX on the transformational leadership behaviors citizenship relationship. The subjects of this study were all full-time employees with their managers who working in the educational organization in Iran. This study surveyed 220 respondents. The sampling frame of the respondents was obtained from educational organization in Shiraz city in Iran. Data were collected on a structured questionnaire containing standard scales of transformational leadership behaviors, LMX, and organizational citizenship behaviors. After establishing the psychometric properties of the scales, hypotheses were tested through statistical analysis of the data. Results indicate that dimensions of transformational leadership behaviors are more likely to predict citizenship behavior than the affect dimension of LMX. Further, LMX is not mediating the relationship of transformational leadership behaviors with citizenship behavior

Tyrosine-kinase inhibition results in EGFR clustering at focal adhesions and consequent exocytosis in uPAR down-regulated cells of Head and Neck cancers

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Antisense (AS) induced down-regulation of uPAR in ACCS adenoid-cyctic carcinoma cells decreased the cellular adhesion and invasion on various extracellular matrices. Additionally, ACCS-AS cells showed an increased EGFR expression and other behavioral similarities to NA-SCC, a typical highly proliferative but less invasive squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) cell line of the head and neck. ACCS, ACCS-AS and NA-SCC cells were used to elucidate the relationships between uPAR down-regulation and EGFR inhibition.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Tyrosine kinase inhibitor Gefitinib (IRESSA, ZD 1839) significantly reduced the chemotactic cell migration and adhesion. This was associated with reduced EGFR and ERK activation. In addition, anti-proliferative effect of gefitinib in uPAR down-regulated ACCS-AS was significantly higher than parental ACCS, to levels comparable to gefitinib-sensitive NA-SCC cells. This was evidenced by both reduced dosage and duration of treatment. Furthermore, time-lapse videography showed that treatment with gefitinib was also associated with cell rounding and loss of pseudopodia, mostly in ACCS-AS rather than parental ACCS cells. There were also evidences of formation and exocytosis of vacuole-like structures in ACCS-AS, as well as NA-SCC, but not in parental ACCS cells. Interestingly, immunocytochemistry showed that the exocytotic vacuoles actually contained de-activated EGFR.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Our results suggested that down-regulation of uPAR affected the fate of EGFR in high EGFR expressing cells. Furthermore, combining the uPAR down-regulation with EGFR inhibition showed a synergistic anti-tumor effect and might provide an alternative method to increase anti-proliferative effect of tyrosine kinase inhibitors with lower doses and duration to reduce their side effects during cancer control.</p

Urban Malays` User-Behaviour and Perpective on Privacy and Spatial Organization of Housing

The fundamental form of Malay traditional housing is to accommodate their occupant daily needs and also to provide better congruence between human behaviour and culture as compared to the modern housing. Majority of modern housing today are mass-produced and inhabitants have little choice but to adapt and change their lifestyle within the ‘given environment’ regardless of their behavioural needs and cultural background. In traditional Malay houses, the spaces are more flexible especially in the main house (rumah ibu) where most family activities took place. Separation of space in the traditional Malay house is minimal because their concern is more towards communal intimacy, and this was demonstrated in the serambi (verandah) located in front of the house where guests especially the males were entertained during social and religious functions. Using scheduled-structured questions and graphic aid during the in-depth interviews, this research found that due to the influence of modern link house layout, an interesting pattern from the perspective of urban Malays with regards to privacy concept and Malay culture emerged. Most of the respondents agreed with the re-introduction of the serambi concept in modern housing as a transition zone for informal entertaining, and it has the potential to be a social interaction space for the immediate neighbourhood. Based on the comments given six house plans were generated and respondents were asked to identify an ideal plan which they feel can fulfilled their privacy needs

Master of Science in Physics. University of KwaZulu Natal, Durban 2016.Entanglement in real physical systems has been of great interest due to its importance in quantum mechanics. It has applications related to quantum information science speci cally quantum cryptography since it eliminates the possibility of photon number splitting attack during the key distribution process (Quantum Key Distribution). This thesis deals with creation, detection and characterisation of the correlated polarised photon pairs, which were emitted from a nonlinear BBO crystal via Spontaneous Parametric Down Conversion (SPDC) process. The procedure that leads to the construction of a polarisation-based entangled system is discussed by considering some of the measurement techniques, which can be applied to study fundamental quantum mechanics and its applications in quantum communication. This thesis consists of a set of experiments to validate the entanglement of single photon pairs. The rst experiment realised by generating of polarised based entangled photon pairs. The quantum correlation between the entangled photon pairs have been tested by measuring the visibility of the system and by verifying the maximal violation of CHSH (Clauser, Horne, Shimony and Holt) inequality. In the second experiment, the delity of the system has been measured by carrying out the state tomography to reconstruct the two-photon density matrix and consider the interference e ect of two photons. This helps to study the preservation of the quantum state during the propagation

The purpose of this study is to comprehend personal characters in Indonesia's traditional leadership and its correlation with the regional leadership. This study uses descriptive analyses method by library research. The result shows that the regional leaders have low quality of personal characters that may lead to the failure to fulfill community's welfare. Therefore the regional leaders have to implement the personal characters of Indonesia's traditional leaders along with the Regional Governance Law No. 12 2008, revised by Law No. 23 2014 in order to increase the people's income, improve education, guarantee health facilities and housing, as well as reduce poverty and unemployment rate in the region

    Get PDF
Experiments and hands-on activities encourage students to be active in knowledge construction. As students carried out experiments and activities, they explored science concepts and retain the knowledge. Currently, a low number of experiments are carried out because some schools are not equipped with updated experimental apparatus, while some schools’ laboratories are broken and they do not have enough experimental apparatus. Therefore, a systematic review was made to study the use of mobile science laboratory in previous studies and its need in Malaysia context. The findings show that teachers had developed their pedagogical skills and confidence in laboratory teaching instruction. The students gained conceptual understanding, retained science learning, increased interest in subject and experiment, and interest to choose career in STEM
