The study aimed at identifing the degree of administrative mechanisms availability to increase the competitive advantage at the public Jordanian Universities according to leverage approach of knowledge management, from the point of view of their academic leaders. The descriptive survey method was used. To achieve the objective of the study, a questionnaire consisting of five domains and (53) Items was developed, and distributed to a sample of (282) academic leaders from three universities. The results showed that the a availability of the administrative mechanisms to increase the competitive advantage at the public Jordanian Universities according to leverage approach of knowledge management was medium, domains arranged as follow: (cost reduction, timeliness, flexibility innovation and quality), The results indicated that there were no significant differences between variables and the degree of administrative mechanisms availability to increase the competitive advantage at the public Jordanian Universities according to leverage approach of knowledge management, from the point of view of their academic leaders. The study recommended consolidating knowledge-lever practices and building knowledge bases that represent the basic requirements for increasing the competitive advantage in universitie

This small-scale study aimed to explore the different factors that help or hinder the achievement of competitive advantage through the possession and development of intellectual capital and the delivery of effective knowledge management in a sample of Jordanian universities. Using a quantitative methodology, underpinned by a pragmatist theoretical approach, an electronic survey was conducted with staff working within three established universities based in Jordan. The concepts of intellectual capital, knowledge management and competitive advantage within an academic setting are first explored before focusing more specifically on investigating how different factors influence these and impact on competitive advantage. Overall, the study identified a range of inhibitors and enablers relating to intellectual capital and knowledge management and identified areas where universities need to develop in order to increase future competitive advantage. The study therefore makes a valuable contribution in adding to the body of evidence within this field

The Role of Researcher Competencies in Delivering Successful Research

    Get PDF
This research  aims to identify the  role of researcher competencies in delivering successful research and  most important competencies that must an individualpossess to become a good researcher. However, some researchers have confused skills with competencies. For example, in some previous studies, data collection and analysis were reported as competencies, yet these are skills that can be acquired through training. n contrast, competencies are innate talents present at birth within person. The main results of this study mention thatresearcher competencies differ from researcher skills. Based on these results, the authorssuggest recommendation such as Universities should pay more attention to the research process. And Arab countries should allocate a special budget to support scientific research. Keywords: Competencies, Successful Research Projects, Researchers DOI: 10.7176/IKM/9-1-0

    Get PDF
The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of human capital development mechanisms (training, incentives structure and attraction of skilled employees) and human capital isolation mechanisms (specificity of company resources and internal characteristics of knowledge in the company) on organizational human capital development and enhancement (well-educated, well-trained employees with suitable job experience). In addition, the study tried to examine the impact of organizational human capital on innovative performance (introduction of new products, replacement of old products, quality of new products and work processes innovations). A questionnaire was developed to collect data from a sample consisting of 500 managers working in selected industrial Jordanian companies at different levels of management. A total of 463 questionnaires were returned giving a response rate of 92.6%. The results found significant as well as positive impacts of human capital development mechanisms and human capital isolation mechanisms on organizational human capital, which in turn significantly affected innovative performance. The results of the study confirmed the acceptance of all hypotheses. The originality of the current study is that it tested and confirmed the important role played by different variables related to the development of organizational human capital which in turn delivers improvements in innovation performance. In light of these results, the study recommends the need to protect human capital through the use of isolation mechanisms in addition to the use of development mechanisms employed in the current study. For future studies, the study recommends the use of additional mechanisms associated with the development and isolation of human capital as this has demonstrated a positive impact in improving innovation performance. State of the Art in Skinning Techniques for Articulated Deformable Characters

    Get PDF
Skinning is an indispensable component of the content creation pipeline for character animation in the context of feature films, video games, and in the special effects industry. Skinning techniques define the deformation of the character skin for every animation frame according to the current state of skeletal joints. In this state of the art report, we focus on the existing research in the areas of skeleton-based deformation, volume preserving techniques and physically based skinning methods. We also summarize the recent research in deformable and soft bodies simulations for articulated characters, and discuss various geometric and examples-based approaches
