Purity of the Ideal of Continuous Functions with Compact Support

    Get PDF
<P>Let C(X) be the ring of all continuous real valued functions defined on a completely regular T1-space. Let CK(X) be the ideal of functions with compact support. Purity of CK(X) is studied and characterized through the subspace XL, the set of all points in X with compact neighborhoods (nbhd). It is proved that CK(X) is pure if and only if XL=∪f∈CK supp f. if CK(X) and CK(Y) are pure ideals, then CK(X) is isomorphic to CK(Y) if and only if XL is homeomorphic to YL. It is proved that CK(X) is pure and XL is basically disconnected if and only if for every f ∈CK(X), the ideal (f ) is a projective C(X)-module. Finally it is proved that if CK(X) is pure, then XL is an F'-space if and only if every principal ideal of CK(X) is a flat C(X)-module. Concrete examples exemplifying the concepts studied are given.</p

Dissociation of Quarkonium in hot and Dense Media in an Anisotropic Plasma in the Non-Relativistic Quark Model

In this paper, quarkonium dissociation is investigated in an anisotropic plasma in the hot and dense media. For that purpose, the multidimensional Schrodinger equation is solved analytically by Nikiforov-Uvarov (NU) method for the real part of the potential in an anisotropic medium. The binding energy and dissociation temperature are calculated. In comparison with an isotropic medium, the binding energy of quarkonium is enhanced in the presence of an anisotropic medium. The present results show that the dissociation temperature increases with increasing anisotropic parameter for 1S state of the charmonium and bottomonium. We observe that the lower baryonic chemical potential has small effect in both isotropic and anisotropic media. A comparison is presented with other pervious theoretical works.Comment: 11 pages, 10 figures, 1 table

Tensile mod ulus, tensile strength, and elongation at break are measured, and mechanical property deterioration is compared. Copolyaramid fibers show improved hydrolytic stability and chemical resistance compared to PPTA fibers. The time dependence of degradation pro cesses can be described by two decreasing exponential functions. WAXS measurements detect only slight differences in the crystalline structure and superstructure of the treated fibers. Thus, the main origin of mechanical degradation is the destruction of intercrys talline links such as tie molecules or tie crystallites

This research aims at analyzing the quality of public service in land documents handling in Tatanga Distric Office, Palu City and the factors which influence. The informants of this research are 9 persons consist of 5 government employees and 4 people. This research uses a purposive sampling technique to select the informants. The techniques of the data collection are observations, interviews, and documentations. The result of this research indicates that the quality of public services in land documents handling in Tatanga District Office, Palu City is not maximal yet. It can be seen from the 5 indicators which become a benchmark in this research, they are: Responsiveness, Assurance, Tangible, Empathy and Reliability. There are only two indicators which properly fulfilled namely the response of the apparatus to the people who are in difficulty in handling land documents and empathy indicator which indicates that the district officers have treated the people rightfully, while the assurance, tangible and reliability indicators are in less maximal category. From several parameters used, like assurance indicator which has one of knowledge aspects, the apparatus of Tatanga is not satisfying yet. From the physical evidence indicator that has three aspects of handling support of land documents, the waiting room condition is not based on what people expect. While from the aspect of reliability which has right appointment of land document service completion is not proven yet

Chronic Kidney Disease in Police Forces Households in Khartoum, Sudan: Pilot Report

Introduction: In the Police Forces Hypertension, Diabetes, Renal Insufficiency and Thyroid Derangement (HyDRIT) pilot study we explored the prevalence, risk factors, awareness, treatment adequacy and complications of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and other non-communicable diseases among adult Police Forces households in two housing complexes in Khartoum, Sudan. Methods: Serum creatinine measurements and urine dipstick testing were performed for 273 individuals. The glomerular filtration rate (GFR) was estimated using the standardized Cockroft-Gault and the four variable MDRD formulas. CKD was defined as an estimated GFR of less than 60 ml/min/1.73m2 and/or proteinuria. Results: The overall prevalence of CKD was 11% (30/273) using the standardized Cockroft-Gault equation and 7.7% (21/273) using the four variable MDRD equation. According to the standardized Cockroft-Gault formula, 14 subjects had reduced GFR with negative urine dipstick testing, two subjects had both proteinuria and reduced GFR, and 14 subjects had proteinuria without reduction in GFR. None of those subjects was aware of his kidney problem. According to the standardized Cockroft-Gault formula, 14 of the identified CKD cases were hypertensive (46.7%); eight of them (57.1%) had a prior diagnosis of hypertension but none achieved therapeutic targets. Four of the identified CKD cases were diabetic (13.3%), three of whom had a prior diagnosis of diabetes mellitus with reasonably controlled blood sugar levels. Only age above 50 years and low educational level proved to be independent risk factors for CKD in multivariate analysis. Conclusion: The prevalence of CKD in the study population seems to be comparable to other countries. Keywords: awareness, chronic kidney disease, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, prevalence, Suda

Effect of maleic hydrazide and waxing on ripening and quality of tomato fruit

The effect of postharvest treatment of maleic hydrazide (MH) and waxing on ripening and quality of 'Stain-B' and 'UC-82' tomato fruits at 20 Ā± I0C and 85-90% RH was evaluated during 2002/2003 season. Maleic hydrazide at 100, 250 and 500 ppm delayed fruit ripening by one to three days in both tomato cultivars. The higher the concentration; the more the delay in fruit ripening. Waxing in addition to MH treatment resulted in 1-2 days more delay in fruit ripening, compared to MH treatment alone. The effect of MH treatment and waxing in delaying fruit ripening was in retarded respiratory climacteric, delayed colour development and total soluble solids (TSS) accumulation, decreased fruit softening, titratable acidity, phenolic content and weight loss, and retained ascorbic acid conten
