    Six-dimensional weak-strong simulations of head-on beam-beam compensation in RHIC

To compensate the large beam-beam tune spread and beam-beam resonance driving terms in the polarized proton operation in the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), we will introduce a low-energy DC electron beam into each ring to collide head-on with the opposing proton beam. The device to provide the electron beam is called an electron lens. In this article, using a 6-D weak-strong-beam-beam interaction simulation model, we investigate the effects of head-on beam-beam compensation with electron lenses on the proton beam dynamics in the RHIC 250 GeV polarized proton operation. This article is abridged from the published article [1].Comment: 5 pages, contribution to the ICFA Mini-Workshop on Beam-Beam Effects in Hadron Colliders, CERN, Geneva, Switzerland, 18-22 Mar 201

Event generator for the single- and double-photon emission associated with neutrino pair-production

    Get PDF
A new event generator is proposed for two processes e+e- -> nu nu-bar gamma and e+e- -> nu nu-bar gamma gamma where nu includes all the neutrino species. The exact matrix elements of single- and double-photon emission, generated by the GRACE system, are convoluted with the QED parton shower(QEDPS) to deal with the initial state radiations(ISR). It is pointed out that a careful treatment is required to avoid the double counting of the radiative photons between the matrix elements and the ISR part. A detailed comparison of grc-nu-nu-gamma with the O(alpha) calculations and other similar Monte Carlo generators is discussed on the total cross section and on various distributions. It is also examined how the possible effects of the anomalous triple-gauge-boson couplings can be observed.Comment: 30 pages, 12 figure

Hamiltonian Derivations of the Generalized Jarzynski Equalities under Feedback Control

In the presence of feedback control by "Maxwell's demon," the second law of thermodynamics and the nonequilibrium equalities such as the Jarzynski equality need to be generalized. In this paper, we derive the generalized Jarzynski equalities for classical Hamiltonian dynamics based on the Liouville's theorem, which is the same approach as the original proof of the Jarzynski equality [Phys. Rev. Lett. 78, 2690 (1997)]. The obtained equalities lead to the generalizations of the second law of thermodynamics for the Hamiltonian systems in the presence of feedback control.Comment: Proceedings of "STATPHYS - Kolkata VII", November 26-30, 2010, Kolkata, Indi

Predictive biometrics: A review and analysis of predicting personal characteristics from biometric data

    Get PDF
Interest in the exploitation of soft biometrics information has continued to develop over the last decade or so. In comparison with traditional biometrics, which focuses principally on person identification, the idea of soft biometrics processing is to study the utilisation of more general information regarding a system user, which is not necessarily unique. There are increasing indications that this type of data will have great value in providing complementary information for user authentication. However, the authors have also seen a growing interest in broadening the predictive capabilities of biometric data, encompassing both easily definable characteristics such as subject age and, most recently, `higher level' characteristics such as emotional or mental states. This study will present a selective review of the predictive capabilities, in the widest sense, of biometric data processing, providing an analysis of the key issues still adequately to be addressed if this concept of predictive biometrics is to be fully exploited in the future

Energy Conservation Constraints on Multiplicity Correlations in QCD Jets

    Get PDF
We compute analytically the effects of energy conservation on the self-similar structure of parton correlations in QCD jets. The calculations are performed both in the constant and running coupling cases. It is shown that the corrections are phenomenologically sizeable. On a theoretical ground, energy conservation constraints preserve the scaling properties of correlations in QCD jets beyond the leading log approximation.Comment: 11 pages, latex, 5 figures, .tar.gz version avaliable on ftp://www.inln.unice.fr

Critical temperature for first-order phase transitions in confined systems

We consider the Euclidean DD-dimensional λϕ4+ηϕ6-\lambda |\phi |^4+\eta |\phi |^6 (λ,η>0\lambda ,\eta >0 ) model with dd (dDd\leq D) compactified dimensions. Introducing temperature by means of the Ginzburg--Landau prescription in the mass term of the Hamiltonian, this model can be interpreted as describing a first-order phase transition for a system in a region of the DD-dimensional space, limited by dd pairs of parallel planes, orthogonal to the coordinates axis x1,x2,...,xdx_1, x_2, ..., x_d. The planes in each pair are separated by distances L1,L2,...,LdL_1, L_2, ..., L_d. We obtain an expression for the transition temperature as a function of the size of the system, % T_c(\{L_i\}), i=1,2,...,di=1, 2, ..., d. For D=3 we particularize this formula, taking L1=L2=...=Ld=LL_1=L_2=... =L_d=L for the physically interesting cases d=1d=1 (a film), d=2d=2 (an infinitely long wire having a square cross-section), and for d=3d=3 (a cube). For completeness, the corresponding formulas for second-order transitions are also presented. Comparison with experimental data for superconducting films and wires shows qualitative agreement with our theoretical expressionsComment: REVTEX, 11 pages, 3 figures; to appear in Eur. Phys. This article recounts the evolution of rights to difference in Mexico, from legal anthropology. We point out the vicissitudes that indigenous populations have gone through for recognition of their identities and territories. Finally, we emphasize the current multicultural panorama, developing the advances and challenges of the Mexican State in terms of protection and guarantees from the populations that have decided to conserve and transmit non-Western ways of life.

If the law seeks to maintain its legitimacy and not be absorbed or neutralized by economists, political scientists, should be a source of prayer and call for justice and fair, not to propose viable solutions but to defend tirelessly and effectively inexcusable; it means sacrificing the legitimacy of the ultimate meaning right. The story illustrates and instructs faceless human rights or against the man, but also that it is possible to construct a law that favors; option, is a human law that we claim, which banished the fear of being victims.
