    Analysis of Windshield Repair Technology

    This paper presents analysis of different types of breaks in windshield and the repair process. Almost all windscreen damage can be attributed to stones or pebbles dislodged from tyres of vehicles in front, or simply drop from trucks carrying gravel. This object hit windscreen surface at great speed and the impact breaks the glass surface at the point of impact. Unfortunately, it may cause internal fracture of the glass, in which case a break occurs. The most common break one will see in windshield include: star shape, bullseye, round shape, cracks and combination breaks. These breaks cause blurred vision to drivers and can result in an accident. Replacing windshield is not cost effective and causes water linkages with time; hence repairing the crack becomes very necessary. To repair crack, resin with the same refractive index with the windshield is used. A follow-up paper will discussed the analysis of resins used in windshield repair

    Steel Work Design and Analysis of a Manual Lawn Mower

    Abstract: This work presented the design and construction of a manually powered lawn mower as well as the stress analysis of the blade. The solid model of the lawn mower design was done using Solid works software. The materials utilized for the construction were selected following standard material selection processes. The required cutting speed was achieved by proper gear arrangement which transferred the rational motion of the wheels to the blade, consequently increasing the speed by about 300%. The average cutting capacity of the lawn mower is 62.48 m2/hr. The stress analysis on the blade using the simulation tool of the solid works software gave a maximum von mises stress that is 252 times less than the yield strength of the blade material. Also, a maximum deformation of 0.00271mm obtained from the analysis is quite infinitesimal hence, the blade can withstand both stress and deformation resulting from the cutting operation.     Performance Evaluation Engine of Sensors in Automobile System

    The number of automobile sensors is increasing continuously because of their proved benefits represented in avoided accidents, higher driving efficiencies, and ubiquitous sensing-based services. These benefits are not limited to only the vehicle’s driver, but also to other vehicles and third parties. Sensors also control vehicle emissions and make vehicles more comfortable and efficient. In this article, we categorized different types of sensors and their function. We also developed a concept that shows how automobile equipped with sensors can be considered as essential mobile resource of sensory data and sensor-related application. In addition, we categorize automobile sensors along the area that support ITS application and communication technologies. The responses of these sensors in an automobile has resulted in high efficacy in the area of safety, movement and environment. Each sensor is activated by the Electronic Control Unit when it receives an electrical signal between 2- 5V and send information to the actuators that performs work. Results obtained have shown increased performance in the response time to activities of the driver while driving

    Mechanical and Structural Properties of Eastern Nigeria Tortoise Shell

    Macro-structural and mechanical properties of tortoise shells of Nigeria indigenous specie were studied to reveal its evolution as a natural load-bearing protective amour. The shell is revealed in this study to be a natural sandwich composite made of keratin, dorsal cortex, porous bone and ventral cortex. Indications of delamination which help the tortoise to absorb shocks were seen in the keratin. The dorsal and ventral cortexes were seen to be load bearing members with distribution of fibers in a manner that sustain dead load. The porosity seen in the middle porous layer ensures that the carapace is not too heavy for the tortoise to carry thus guarantees ease of locomotion, strength and damping. The average porosity of the studied shells is determined to be 31.0425% which as expected is smaller than the value 48.9% reported for porosity of shell of the turtle Terrapene Carolina in literature. The suture of the shell is revealed to house a zigzag interlocking design that allow slight deformation of the shell under light loads required for respiration, locomotion and metabolism but stiffen under excessive deformation. Stiffness of two specimens was determined to be and for the shells with masses 0.2362 kg and 0.2764Kg respectively. These stiffness values were as expected higher the typical values for those of turtles. The stiffness to mass ratio(k/m) for the two shells were respectively calculated to be and . The conditions established for equivalent synthetic shells to have less stiffness to mass ratio were and respectively. These conditions were shown not to be because of problems of stress concentration and weakness at the joints and delamination of the biological shells

    This report contains the design, fabrication and performance analysis of a shock absorber spring compressor. The detailed data of the different parts was presented. The materials selected for each part, the reason for selecting that material and the design of the different parts of the shock absorber compressor spring was carried out. The manufacturing processes involved was presented. From the design it was established that deflection in the spring decreases with reduction in the stresses applied to the spring. The test result of the fabricated shock absorber compressor spring shows that the tool was very efficient in extracting the spring during the repair process with danger of harming the technician working with the tool

    Design and Construction of Fuelless AC Generator Using Alternator Interfaced With an Inverter

    AC Generators are useful appliances that supply electrical power during a power outage from national grid and prevent discontinuity of daily activities or disruption of business operations. Generators are available in different electrical and physical configurations for use in different applications. This work develops a design, Construction and Characterize fuelless AC Generator that generates electrical energy from an alternator interfaced with an inverter. The prime mover is DC electric motor which was connected to the alternator armature shaft. The DC electric motor was powered by rechargeable 24V/75Ah battery, and as it rotates it provides energy to the alternator resulting in generation of AC voltage. Part of the output voltage was rectified to provide 12V for recharging of the battery for it not to be drained. The other part was connected to which was connected to an inverter to provide 220V to the output circuit breaker for the utility load. A control panel was also in cooperated for monitoring and regulation for output voltage. The results were obtained using multi-meter to read the output voltage at different load conditions and also measure the voltage output from different components of the control circuit. This gave stable 220V output voltage which was connected to load

    Modeling of 2-D Computer Aided Drafting Application for Teaching and Learning Engineering Drawing

    With non-availability of the required equipment, teaching engineering drawing to a class of over 1000 students and retaining their interests and attention from the beginning to the end of a lecture period was of big concern to the engineering drawing courses lecturers in the Faculty of Engineering, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. This work is aimed at designing and developing animated Microsoft Office PowerPoint teaching applications named 2-D Computer-Aided Drafting Applications (2-D CADA) that eliminate this problem. This paper presents a sample of the Applications which demonstrates clearly to the audience’s pleasure how to mount, set and hold a drawing sheet on a drawing board before actual drawing commences. It also shows how to manually draw boarder lines on the drawing sheet. Similar programs can be written and used to show to engineering students how to manually draw most of the figures specified in their schools' curricula using engineering drawing instruments. Many of this Application have been written on various topics in engineering drawing in line with the global trend of drudgery reduction in man-machine systems. These Applications are already being deployed in teaching engineering drawing in the Faculty of Engineering, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Nigeria. The benefits of employing 2-D CADA in teaching and learning engineering drawing are overwhelming. 2D-CADA relieves a teacher the mental and physical stresses that go with manual production of drawings on a chalk board. It drastically improved the attention, interest and understanding of students during drawing lessons. A well written 2D-CADA can be replicated and deployed to a personal computer for self-study plans as well as to group-based students’ workstations for group teaching

The consequence of this is that built-in reserve in the network is then quickly used up and slight problem will put everyone into darkness.
