Stamina of a non-gasketed flange joint under combined internal pressure, axial and bending loading : an experimental study
The performance of a bolted flange joint is characterized mainly by its 'strength' and 'sealing capability'. A number of numerical and experimental studies have been conducted to study these characteristics under internal pressure loading conditions alone. However, limited work is found in the literature under conditions of combined internal pressure and axial loading. The effect of external, axial loading pressure being unknown, the optimal performance of the bolted flange joint cannot be achieved. Current design codes do not address the effects of axial loading on structural integrity and sealing ability. To study joint strength and sealing capability under combined loading conditions, an extensive experimental and numerical study of a non¬gasketed flange joint was carried out. Actual joint load capacity was determined at both design and test stages with the maximum external axial loading that can be applied for safe joint performance. Experimental and numerical results have been compared and overall joint performance and behaviour is discussed in detail

Accelerated micropolar fluid--flow past an uniformly rotating circular cylinder
In this paper, we formulated the non-steady flow due to the uniformly
accelerated and rotating circular cylinder from rest in a stationary, viscous,
incompressible and micropolar fluid. This flow problem is examined numerically
by adopting a special scheme comprising the Adams-Bashforth Temporal Fourier
Series method and the Runge-Kutta Temporal Special Finite-Difference method.
This numerical scheme transforms the governing equation for micropolar fluids
for this problem into system of finite-difference equations. This system was
further solved numerically by point SOR-method. These results were also further
extrapolated by the Richardson extrapolation method. This scheme is valid for
all values of the flow and fluid-parameters and for all time. Moreover the
boundary conditions of the vorticity and the spin at points far from the
cylinder are being imposed and encountered too. The results are compared with
existing results (for non-rotating circular cylinder in Newtonian fluids). The
comparison is good. The enhancement of lift and reduction in drag was observed
if the micropolarity effects are intensified. Same is happened if the rotation
of a cylinder increases. Furthermore, the vortex-pair in the wake is delayed to
successively higher times as rotation parameter increases. In addition, the
rotation helps not only in dissolving vortices adjacent to the cylinder and
adverse pressure region but also in dissolving the boundary layer separation.
Furthermore, the rotation reduces the micropolar spin boundary layer also
The stamina of non-gasketed, flanged pipe connections
Stress variations showing flange yielding, flange rotation, effects of joint tightening sequence, identification of the mode of response to loading (static or dynamic) is discussed. In addition the effects of re-tightening, importance of high quality bolting with proper surface treatment and use of proper tooling are also discussed

The collocation and meshless methods for differential equations in R(2)
In recent years, meshless methods have become popular ones to solve differential equations. In this thesis, we aim at solving differential equations by using Radial Basis Functions, collocation methods and fundamental solutions (MFS). These methods are meshless, easy to understand, and even easier to implement
