The Case of Steve Jobs
Since the 1970s, management scholars have been captivated by the emotional and symbolic aspects of leadership, particularly charismatic leadership — a form of influence independent of tradition and formal authority. More recently, dramaturgical scholars have sought to augment orthodox understandings of charisma by examining leadership as a ‘performing art’: a ‘front stage’ social interaction between ‘actor’ (leader) and ‘audience’ (followers). Whereas existing research has examined the nature of charismatic leadership through, for example, impression management and social constructionism, this thesis suggests that dramaturgical scholars have largely neglected to demonstrate the value of the theatrical metaphor by testing, evaluating and building on extant theory through a case study leader. The thesis seeks to augment extant theory by revealing the importance of i) ‘narrative and storytelling’, and ii) the ‘stage management’ of leader performance to the audience’s attribution and maintenance of what constitutes a ‘charismatic’ leader. Accordingly, this thesis develops a narratologically informed dramaturgical framework of analysis to examine six public performance texts by a case study ‘charismatic leader’ — Steve Jobs of Apple Inc. The framework is tendered as a useful device through which narrative and storytelling, impression management, organisational outcomes, and the social construction of charismatic leadership may be further examined

Optimizing HVAC Energy Consumption through Occupancy Detection with Machine Learning based Classifiers
Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems are pivotal for maintaining indoor comfort and air quality in buildings. However, inefficient HVAC operation can lead to unnecessary energy consumption and increased costs. This research explores the application of machine learning (ML) techniques for occupancy detection using environmental factors to optimize HVAC energy consumption. Analyzing a dataset comprising environmental observations like temperature, humidity, light, and CO2 levels alongside occupancy status, we evaluate various ML algorithms, including K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Support Vector Machines (SVM), and others, for accurately predicting room occupancy. Additionally, we conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) using box plots to visualize feature distributions and their correlation with occupancy. Our findings highlight the potential of ML-based occupancy detection to enhance HVAC system efficiency by dynamically adjusting heating, cooling, and ventilation settings based on real-time occupancy information. Through experimental evaluation on training, validation, and test datasets, we provide insights into the performance and scalability of different ML models for occupancy prediction. Finally, we discuss practical implications and future research directions for integrating ML-based occupancy detection into HVAC control systems to achieve energy savings and environmental sustainability
Pulmonary embolism as presenting feature of membranous nephropathy induced nephrotic syndrome
Severe pulmonary embolism as first-time presentation of Nephrotic syndrome is rare but Nephrotic syndrome secondary to membranous nephropathy (MN) may impose a greater thrombotic risk for unclear reasons. Here, we report the case of a 36-year-old female patient presented with complaints of sudden onset of shortness of breath since 4-5 days and features of right-sided heart failure. There was no preceding history of any chronic disease or renal disease. She was diagnosed as having a bilateral severe pulmonary embolism. Extensive workup and renal biopsy were done which was suggestive of primary membranous nephropathy
TETRACYCLINE: A USEFUL CLASS OF ANTIBIOTICS FOR SUCCESSFUL ENDODONTICS
Antibiotics have been used frequently in treatment of odontogenic infections. However in endodontic diseases, the source of infection is rarely eliminated by the use of antimicrobial drugs alone. The mainstay of treating pulpal and periapical infections remains the cleaning and debridement of root canal system. Topical antibacterial agents can be used as an adjunct in the form of an irrigant or intracanal medicament during endodontic therapy. Most often employed antibiotic in endodontics is tetracycline class of drugs. Research has shown that tetracycline agents have various beneficial properties apart from bacteriostatic action, including antiresorptive activity, ability to remove smear layer from canal surface after cleaning and shaping. They also show the property of substantivity which prolongs their effect by allowing slow gradual release over time. Therefore, the present paper aims to outline the possible applications of tetracycline drugs in endodontics
Snakebite presenting as acute coronary syndrome: An interesting diagnosis and management
Snakebite is a common presentation in India, especially in the Sub-Himalayan region. The most common presentation of snakebiteis neurotoxic and hematologic complications. Acute coronary syndrome after a snakebite is rare. This case report explicitly explainsa patient presenting as acute coronary syndrome after a snakebite with dynamic electrocardiogram changes. Later on, the anti-snakevenom therapy was given to the patient and her condition improved. It should be kept in mind that, since the pathology of snakebiteinducedmyocardial infarction is different, its management will also be different
Development and quality of apple -whey based herbal functional ready-to-serve beverage
Apple is one of the widely consumed fruits which constitute an important part of the human diet as a source of sugars and dietary fibres. But, it is poor in proteins and some minerals like calcium. On the other hand, whey- a by-product of dairy industry is an excellent source of proteins and calcium. Therefore, in the present study, apple-whey based functional ready-to-serve (RTS) beverage was developed by blending apple juice with whey and jaljeera extract and was evaluated for quality under ambient and refrigerated conditions during storage. The incorporation of whey had increased the calcium content from 3.96 to 15.64 mg/100 mL and total proteins from 0.07 to 0.29 % in the developed beverage. Further addition of jaljeera extract not only enhanced the sensory quality of the beverage, but also improved the ascorbic acid content (10.57 mg/100g) total phenols (37.86 mg/100g) and antioxidant activity (40.34 %). The developed product was stored safely for a period of sixty days under refrigerated storage conditions with minimum changes in chemical and sensory attributes
Comparison of quality of anardana (dried arils) prepared in mechanical cabinet and solar tunnel drier from wild pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) fruits procured from different locations of Himachal Pradesh, India
The dried arils (anardana) prepared from wild pomegranate fruits (Punica granatum L.) are widely used as an acidulant in culinary purposes and in formulations of various ayurvedic medicines which are helpful in curing a number of ailments. As there is a wide variation among the quality of fruits which is due to geographic conditions, climatic factors and genetic variability so anardana was prepared from the fruits of different locations under different drying modes. The prepared product was further compared for its physico-chemical, antioxidant and sensory characteristics. Anardana prepared under mechanical cabinet drier and solar tunnel drier was comparable in terms of its various quality characteristics. While comparing the locations for the procurement of raw material, best quality anardana in terms of various quality attributes like colour, TSS [(total soluble solids) (40.35 oB)], total sugars (26.15 %), anthocyanins (37.97 mg/100 g), total phenols (176.46 mg GAE/100 g), flavonoids (39.45 mg QuE/100 g), antioxidant activity (59.53 %), starch (2.87 %) and sensory characteristics was prepared from the fruits of Karsog location (1265 meters above mean sea level) of Himachal Pradesh, India
Nanomechanical inhomogeneities in CVA-deposited titanium nitride thin films: Nanoindentation and Finite Element Method Investigations
Refractory metals that can withstand at high temperatures and harsh
conditions are of utmost importance for solar-thermal and energy storage
applications. Thin films of TiN have been deposited using cathodic vacuum arc
deposition (CVA) at relatively low temperatures ~ 300 oC using the substrate
bias ~ -60V. The nanomechanical properties of these films were investigated
using nanoindentation and the spatial fluctuations were observed. The
nanoindentation results were simulated using finite element method (FEM)
through Johnson-Cook model. We have found the local nitridation plays an
important role on nanomechanical properties of TiN thin films and confirms that
the nitrogen deficient regions are ductile with low yield stress and hardening
modulus. This study further opens the opportunities of modelling the nanoscale
system using FEM analysis
