Homepage Usability: Multiple Case Studies Of Top 5 IPTA’S Homepage In

    Get PDF
Generally, all universities have a website that has information about the background of the universities and other sub menus that are related to the universities. The website owners should know their websites’ usability level in order to deliver messages effectively. This research has intended to identify the importance of the usability factor in the creation of a website. This research has employed a survey method that has been used to analyse the data to identify the crucial aspects that need to be fulfilled and followed before embarking on a homepage design process. This survey has evaluated the top 5 local universities in Malaysia, which are Universiti Malaya (UM), UniversitiKebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) UniversitiTeknologi Malaysia (UTM), UniversitiSains Malaysia (USM) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). The evaluation of the usability factor involved were ease of use, navigation, graphics, layout, text and font size. This research is very important, considering the lack of local academic writings regarding homepage usability that are being produced as a guide in the creation of websites. Interview sessions with local professional webpage designers were carried out to get their views, visions and aspirations in webpage designs for universities. The results have been compared in order to fulfil the research objective. The data collection was acquired verbally as well as visually. The findings can be used as a reference to set certain standards in webpage design and creation, and also to be used for academic benefit

A Literature Review on Study of Silica fume as Partial Replacement of Cement in Concrete

In the recent past, there has been considerable attempts for improving the properties of concrete with respect to strength and durability, especially in aggressive environments. High performance concrete appears to be better choice for a strong and durable structure. A large amount of by-product or wastes such as fly-ash, copper slag, silica fume etc. are generated by industries, which causes environmental as well as health problems due to dumping and disposal. Proper introduction of silica fume in concrete improves both the mechanical and durability characteristics of the concrete. This paper present literature review on replacement of Cement by Silica Fume which includes current and future trends of research

Face recognition using assemble of low frequency of DCT features

    Get PDF
Face recognition is a challenge due to facial expression, direction, light, and scale variations. The system requires a suitable algorithm to perform recognition task in order to reduce the system complexity. This paper focuses on a development of a new local feature extraction in frequency domain to reduce dimension of feature space. In the propose method, assemble of DCT coefficients are used to extract important features and reduces the features vector. PCA is performed to further reduce feature dimension by using linear projection of original image. The proposed of assemble low frequency coefficients and features reduction method is able to increase discriminant power in low dimensional feature space. The classification is performed by using the Euclidean distance score between the projection of test and train images. The algorithm is implemented on DSP processor which has the same performance as PC based. The experiment is conducted using ORL standard face databases the best performance achieved by this method is 100%. The execution time to recognize 40 peoples is 0.3313 second when tested using DSP processor. The proposed method has a high degree of recognition accuracy and fast computational time when implemented in embedded platform such as DSP processor

This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the Malay version Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (M-BCTQ). A cross-sectional study was used to generate the final version of M-BCTQ that was administered to 55 patients for psychometric testing. M-BCTQ had excellent test-retest reliability with ICCs value 0.837 for Symptom Severity Scale (SSS) and 0.913 for Functional Status Scale (FSS). The Cronbach alpha coefficient for the internal consistencies was reported at 0.864 for SSS and 0.893 for the FSS. A strong correlation was found with the Malay version of Disability of Arm, Shoulder and Hand Questionnaire (MV-DASH) as Spearman correlation for construct validity was 0.791 for SSS and 0.831 for FSS.Keywords: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome; Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire; Reliability; ValidityeISSN: 2398-4287 © 2019. OBJECTIVES The study aimed to compare the clinical outcome of transverse versus longitudinal incision for surgical release of the first dorsal compartment of the wrist to treat de Quervain’s disease. METHODOLOGY In this quasi-experimental study, all the patients with resistant de Quervain’s tenosynovitis who had the surgical release of the first dorsal compartment between January 2008 and  December 2020 were included. The surgeries were performed under local anaesthesia. The first dorsal compartment of the wrist was approached through either a longitudinal or transverse incision, and the tendons of the abductor pollicis longus and extensor pollicis brevis were released. Patients were followed for a minimum of three months, and the primary outcome measure was the Visual analogue score (VAS) for relief of pain and secondary outcome measures were any immediate or delayed complications. RESULTS98 patients were included in the study with a female-to-male ratio of 7:1. The cohort’s mean age was 44 years (Range 25-75). Most patients were housewives exposed to manual work with the involvement of the dominant hand. There were no major complications besides wound issues and transient paresthesia in few patients. The longitudinal incision was associated with less transient nerve palsies, less duration of surgery and easier identification of structure and anomalies. The only advantage of transverse incision was less scar formation. The clinical outcome was similar in both groups: 94% of patients had complete pain relief (VAS 0). CONCLUSION There was no difference in the outcome of de Quervain tenosynovitis when released with a transverse or longitudinal incision. The longitudinal incision had fewer complications as compared to the transverse incision

Hematology and serum biochemistry parameters for rescued common palm civets (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus) in different age groups

Currently, there are no complete parameters established for serum biochemistry and hematology for the determination of health status of rescued common palm civets (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus). In this study, blood samples were obtained from 18 adults and 15 juvenile civets caught on Singapore Main Island. Significant age-related differences (P<0.05) were noted in the hemoglobin, erythrocyte count, packed cell volume (PCV), total serum protein and globulin concentration in the adult civets showing higher values compared with the juvenile civets. The mean corpuscular volume (MCV), the alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and the phosphorus concentrations were significantly higher (P<0.05) in juveniles compared with adult civets
