Tender Management and Monitoring System (TMMS) is a server-based database system developed for Governance Unit, Project Procurement Management Department (PPMD), Technology and Engineering Division (T&E), PETRONAS. As it is a server-based database system, the application of the system would be using the intranet connection available in PETRONAS. The function carried out by the system are insertion, storing, modification and deletion of the databases regarding tender management. This system allocated storage for the user to save data in a systematic way. The objective of having this functionality is to enable a well-organized data storage for tender information within Governance Unit. In addition, the system would also include monitoring and flagging system. This system will automatically notified the user on several important information on tenders especially something related to submission of tender documents. On the other hand, monitoring and flagging system would enable the user to categorize the tenders into different categories based on selected criteria. Hence, the process of enhancing the job efficiency will easily be carried out using the system. The main objective having this system is to provide a system which will improve the efficiency level in the workplace. The methodology used in designing and development of the system is based on Database Management System Lifecycle. The system will be developed using web development software such as Adobe Dreamweaver with the implementation of PHP programming language for integration between web pages and databases. TMMS would also equipped with user interface that will aid the processes carried out by the system in an organized way

Using mathematical models to develop tuberculosis control strategies in Bangladesh

    Get PDF
Md Abdul Kuddus used mathematical modelling to investigate the transmission of tuberculosis in Bangladesh, and identify optimal intervention strategies. He found that without rapid improvements in treatment quality the incidence of drug-resistant tuberculosis will continue to rise; whilst reasonable scale-ups of existing control measures can eliminate all tuberculosis in Bangladesh

The condition of forest and land damage is a concern for many parties, one of the government’s efforts is through forest and land rehabilitation activities. Forest and land rehabilitation activities are not only the government’s business, but all communities, especially those directly involved in the exploitation of land resources are expected to be able to overcome the problem of land damage. The aim of this research was to determine forest and land rehabilitation activities and community participation in land rehabilitation activities. This research was conducted from April to June 2021. The method used in this research was the descriptive method with observations, direct interviews and taking documentation of activities. The results showed that community participation in forest and land rehabilitation activities had positive and negative roles by forming farmer groups that played an active role by holding consultations with the government in preserving forests

Cost Analysis of RCC, Steel and Composite Multi-Storied Car Parking Subjected to High Wind Exposure in Bangladesh

    Get PDF
Steel-concrete composite constructions in Bangladesh are nowadays very popular owing to their advantages over conventional concrete and steel constructions. Concrete structures are massive and allot more seismic weight and less deflection whereas steel structures instruct more deflections and ductility to the structure, which is beneficial in resisting earthquake and wind forces. Composite construction combines the better properties of both steel and concrete along with lesser cost, speedy construction, fire protection etc. The objective of this study was to analysis and design ground floor plus 19 storied R.C.C, Steel and Composite (steel-concrete) multi-storied parking structure’s frame of same plan using ETABS 2013 software and compare their structural parameters with estimated cost for required material. All frames are designed for same gravity and dynamic loadings. The RCC deck-slab is used in steel and composite frame. Beam and column sections are made of RCC, steel or steel-concrete composite sections. The composite construction option provided about 25 % and 18% less cost when compared to RCC and steel structure, respectively. Comparative study concludes that the composite frames are best suited among all the three types of constructions in terms of material cost and benefit added with better structural behaviour

Numerical Simulation on Buckling Failure of the Masonry Load Bearing Walls

Masonry load bearing wall subjected to vertical concentric and eccentric loading may collapse through instability. The buckling behavior of masonry load bearing wall of different slenderness ratio were investigated via testing a series of scale masonry wall subjected to concentric and eccentric vertical loading. A total of thirty six masonry walls were tested in the Laboratory of Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), which was the basis of this numerical study, and results such as the vertical load capacity, vertical deformation, horizontal deflection and type of failure were investigated. In this research, for better understanding of buckling failure of the masonry load bearing wall and to simulate the response of walls tested in laboratory, a numerical finite element model was developed based on the simplified micro model approach. The numerical model was calibrated by using those results found from experimental study. The numerical model was developed, which takes into account both geometrical and material nonlinearities. However, a series of analytical studies were conducted in order to access the accuracy and performance of formulations provided by EUROCODE 6 and ACI-530 for vertical capacity of masonry wall. The influence of tensile strength of units, nonlinear behavior of interface element, slenderness ratio and various end conditions have been investigated together with the effect of different end eccentricity of vertical load

Mathematical analysis of a measles transmission dynamics model in Bangladesh with double dose vaccination

    Get PDF
Although the availability of the measles vaccine, it is still epidemic in many countries globally, including Bangladesh. Eradication of measles needs to keep the basic reproduction number less than one (i.e.R01) epidemic occurs. While using the Routh-Hurwitz criteria, the equilibria are found to be locally asymptotically stable under the former condition on R0. The partial rank correlation coefficients (PRCCs), a global sensitivity analysis method is used to compute R0 and measles prevalence (I∗) with respect to the estimated and fitted model parameters. We found that the transmission rate (β) had the most significant influence on measles prevalence. Numerical simulations were carried out to commissions our analytical outcomes. These findings show that how progression rate, transmission rate and double dose vaccination rate affect the dynamics of measles prevalence. The information that we generate from this study may help government and public health professionals in making strategies to deal with the omissions of a measles outbreak and thus control and prevent an epidemic in Bangladesh

Urbanization: a problem for the rich and the poor?

    Get PDF
Urbanization has long been associated with human development and progress, but recent studies have shown that urban settings can also lead to significant inequalities and health problems. This paper is concerned with the adverse impact of urbanization on both developed and developing nations and both wealthy and poor populations within those nations, addressing issues associated with public health problems in urban areas. The discussion in this paper will be of interest to policy makers. The paper advocates policies that improve the socio-economic conditions of the urban poor and promote their better health. Further, this discussion encourages wealthy people and nations to become better informed about the challenges that may arise when urbanization occurs in their regions without the required social supports and infrastructure

Delay effect and burden of weather related tuberculosis cases in Rajshahi province, Bangladesh, 2007–2012

Tuberculosis (TB) is a potentially fatal infectious disease that continues to be a public health problem in Bangladesh. Each year in Bangladesh an estimated 70,000 people die of TB and 300,000 new cases are projected. It is important to understand the association between TB incidence and weather factors in Bangladesh in order to develop proper intervention programs. In this study, we examine the delayed effect of weather variables on TB occurrence and estimate the burden of the disease that can be attributed to weather factors. We used generalized linear Poisson regression models to investigate the association between weather factors and TB cases reported to the Bangladesh National TB control program between 2007 and 2012 in three known endemic districts of North-East Bangladesh. The associated risk of TB in the three districts increases with prolonged exposure to temperature and rainfall, and persisted at lag periods beyond 6 quarters. The association between humidity and TB is strong and immediate at low humidity, but the risk decreases with increasing lag. Using the optimum weather values corresponding to the lowest risk of infection, the risk of TB is highest at low temperature, low humidity and low rainfall. Measures of the risk attributable to weather variables revealed that weather-TB cases attributed to humidity is higher than that of temperature and rainfall in each of the three districts. Our results highlight the high linearity of temporal lagged effects and magnitudes of the burden attributable to temperature, humidity, and rainfall on TB endemics. The results can hopefully advise the Bangladesh National TB control program and act as a practical reference for the early warning of TB cases
