The purpose of this study is to analyze the construct validity and reliability of empathy and to examine the dimensions and indicators that make up this construct. Empathy is measured by four dimensions, namely empathic concern, personal distress, fantasy and perspective taking. The population in this study were all grade VII students who were in Muhammadiyah 1 Prambanan Middle School. The sample in this study were 60 students. The sampling technique used is quota sampling. The data collection method uses empathy scale. Research data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) through the SmartPLS version 3.0 program. Based on the results of data analysis, the dimensions and indicators that form the construct of empathy are declared valid and reliable. The dominant dimension that reflects the construct of empathy is empathic concern with a loading factor of 0.978. The weakest dimension reflects the empathy construct is personal distress with a loading factor of 0.908. This shows that all dimensions and indicators are able to reflect and shape the construct of empathy, thus the measurement model can be accepted because the theory that describes the construct of empathy fit with empirical data obtained from the subject

One of the problems in education is the high cases of bullying. Bullying in the school environment is the result of various interacting factors, therefore bullying is a complex socio-cultural phenomenon. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the results of previous studies in the psychology field, which are related to bullying through a literature review study approach. Literature review searches were conducted on electronic journal articles, and electronic books from ScienceDirect, Taylor & Francis Online, Sage Journal, Emerald Insight, Wiley Online Library, Springer Link, ERIC Institute of Education Sciences, APA PsycNet with the keywords bullying. The searching results obtained 73 electronic journals from 2000-2017 and 26 electronic books from 1993-2017. The reference journals and books are written in English. Therefore, based on these criteria, finally selected 23 studies based on keywords, characteristics of research subjects, and are primary studies. The writing results illustrate that the phenomenon of bullying involves the role of the perpetrators, victims, and the environment that interacts with each other. Male groups tend to be more directly involved in bullying behavior than women. The conclusion of this paper is that bullying behavior is influenced by low self-control, rejection motives, and an environment that supports the causes of bullying behavior

The purpose of this study is to test the validity and reliability of the self-concept as a construct and test aspects and indicators that can form this construct. Self-concept is measured by four aspects, including physical self, social self, psychological self, and moral self. The population in this study are all students of grade XI with a total sample of 60 students. The sampling technique used is simple random sampling. The data collection method is a self-concept scale. Research data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) through the SmartPLS version 3.28. Based on the results of data analysis, the aspects and indicators that made up the construct of self-concept were valid and reliable. The dominant aspect reflecting the construct of self-concept is the social self with a loading factor of 0.806, and the weakest aspect reflecting the construct of the self-concept is the physical self with a loading factor of 0.703. This shows that all aspects and indicators are able to reflect and shape the construct of self-concept. Thus, the measurement model can be accepted because theories that describe self-concept fit with empirical data obtained from the subject

This study investigated whether self-regulation, self-evaluation, and self-efficacy can predict students’ employability levels, either simultaneously or partially. Researchers used class XII students of Muhammadiyah 1 Bambanglipuro Vocational High School, Indonesia with the criteria of having implemented industrial work practices (N=433) as research subjects. The sample consisted of 168 students obtained randomly by cluster sampling technique. Likert model scale as the main instrument in obtaining empiric data to answer the research hypothesis using multiple regression techniques with the help of the SPSS V.23 program. Based on the results of the analysis, it is known that self-regulation, self-evaluation, and self-efficacy have a very significant effect on the level of employability (F=134.28 and sig.=.000). Partially, each independent variable (self-regulation, self-evaluation, and self-efficacy) also has a very significant effect on employability with statistical values (t) obtained at 11.54, 3.24, 7.99 and sig. level of .000, .001, .000. These findings provide evidence that self-originating factors (self-regulation, self-evaluation, and self-efficacy) are sufficiently capable of increasing employability. Thus, it can be concluded that internal factors are one of the critical factors in predicting the employability of vocational students

Waterless purification using oil palm biomass-derived bioadsorbent improved the quality of biodiesel from waste cooking oil

    Get PDF
The utilization of adsorbents produced from biomass for tertiary treatment of industrial wastes has gained much interest compared to the conventional methods such as flocculation and coagulation. In the present study, a bioadsorbent produced from pressed-shredded oil palm empty fruit bunch was used to remove impurities from crude biodiesel derived from waste cooking oil. The purification process was performed using 1 to 5 wt% bioadsorbent loadings under continuous stirring at 500 rpm for 1 h. After purification using 5 wt% of bioadsorbent loading, 89.7% of residual methanol, 81.7% of water, 36.7% of free fatty acid and 98.6% of potassium were successfully removed. This met the European Biodiesel Standard (EN14214). In comparison to commercial adsorbents and the water washing method, purification using the oil palm empty fruit bunch derived bioadsorbent resulted in higher removal of free fatty acids, potassium, water impurities and a smaller loss of fatty acid methyl esters. It was found that the use of the bioadsorbent improved the biodiesel quality besides its benefits of ease of operations and avoidance of waste water production

Kinetic and thermodynamic of heterogeneously K₃PO₄/AC-catalysed transesterification via pseudo-first order mechanism and eyring-polanyi equation

The use of carbon-based catalysts has drawn so much interest in biodiesel production due to improved reaction performance. However, there was lack of comprehensive studies in term of its kinetic and thermodynamic perspective. Therefore, a methodical study is essential to uncover the influence of the carbon catalyst with respect to reaction rate and yield. This study represents kinetic and thermodynamic of heterogeneously K₃PO₄/AC-catalysed transesterification. It was done correspondingly via pseudo-first order mechanism and Eyring-Polanyi equation, whereby, under the optimal reaction temperature of 333.15 K, all data have fitted satisfactorily in both models with resulted R² of 0.99, respectively. Activation energy (Ea) and Gibbs free energy (ΔG) were calculated as 34.2 kJ mol⁻¹ and −33.68 kJ mol⁻¹, indicating the reaction was exergonic and spontaneous at high temperature
