Stochastic model of effectiveness for man-hardware-software system

    Get PDF
This study presents analytical models that provide a realistic measurement of effectiveness for the system involving hardware, software, and human operator. It shows a way to properly integrate the human operator into system effectiveness. System effectiveness is defined as the combined measure of availability and reliability at each task-arrival time. At each task-arrival time, transient human operator behavior is considered in conjunction with the man-hardware-software system state. Since factors such as fatigue, stress, and learning will affect the operator over time, the human performance variables are assumed to vary with time during the mission. The models are developed for both single-machine and N-machine problems and are extended to handle: (1) systems with multiple operating mode, (2) system with several type of task, and (3) system with general failure and repair distribution. For the first problem, the operating levels are assumed to affect the task performance. In the second problem, each type of task is characterized by the performance level of the human operator representing the degree of accomplishment of a specified task. The last extension is considered to handle a more general system by removing the assumption of the Markovian process for the system state

Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand, serves a population of 1.2 million people and is a tertiary institution for pediatric trauma. This study is designed to review all cases of abdominal injury (blunt and penetrating) that resulted in injury of a hollow abdominal viscus including the stomach, duodenum, small intestine, large intestine and urinary bladder. The mechanism of injury; diagnosis and outcome were studied. This was done by retrospective chart review of patients admitted from January 1995 to December 2001. Thirty two injuries were found in 29 children. The age ranged from 7 months to 15 years with boys represented more commonly. Small bowel was the most frequently injured hollow viscus. Computerized Tomography (CT scan) is an extremely useful tool for the diagnosis of HVI

Using the UTAUT2 model to explain teacher acceptance of work performance assessment system

    Get PDF
An organization needs qualified and experienced human resources. Performance appraisals are required to determine the effectiveness of their work. A performance appraisal system has already been created to objectively evaluate the work of teachers, principals, and teachers given additional tasks, and to provide instructions for developing the teaching profession, principals, and teachers given additional tasks. The goal of this study was to apply the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology 2 (UTAUT2) to explain why teachers accept the performance appraisal method. With the help of SmartPLS 3.2.8 software, a partial least square structural equation model (PLS-SEM) was used to analyze the data. The results showed that behavioral intention (BI) to utilize the system is influenced by performance expectancy (PE), social influence (SI), facilitating conditions (FC), and habit (HT). The findings also revealed that system use behavior (UB) is influenced by facilitating conditions (FC), habit (HT), and behavioral intention (BI). To increase the system's adoption, the studies suggest focusing on enhancing the system's ease of use and minimizing the system's flow complexity

In Colorectal Liver Metastases, the Presence of Extrahepatic Disease Correlates with the Pathology of the Primary Tumour

    Get PDF
Background. FDG-PET scan detects extrahepatic metastases in 20% of patients with colorectal liver metastases but it is reported to have approximately 16% false negative rates. Patients and Methods. Patients who had PET scan for metastatic colorectal cancer at Westmead Hospital between March 2006 and March 2010 were reviewed retrospectively. The results of PET scan were correlated with tumour characteristics that were thought to affect the overall prognosis. Results. Degree of tumour differentiation and vascular invasion were significantly predictive for the presence of extrahepatic disease on PET scan, also did the level of CEA. Conclusion. The detection of extrahepatic disease in colorectal liver metastases correlates with the biologic behaviour of the primary tumour. Poorly differentiated tumours and those with lymphovascular invasion behave in aggressive fashion and likely to have wide-spread metastases. This should be considered when contemplating liver resection for colorectal metastases

Resection of peritoneal metastases causing malignant small bowel obstruction

    Get PDF
Background: Resection of peritoneal metastases has been shown to improve survival in patients with abdominal metastatic disease from abdominal or extra abdominal malignancy. This study evaluates the benefit of peritoneal metastatic resection in patients with malignant small bowel obstruction and a past history of treated cancer. Patients and methods: Patients undergoing laparotomy for resection of peritoneal metastases from recurrence of previous cancer between 1992-2003 were reviewed retrospectively. Data were collected about type of primary cancer, interval to recurrence, extent of the disease and completeness of resection, morbidity and mortality and long-term survival. Results: Between 1992 and 2003 there were 79 patients (median age 62, range 19-91) who had laparotomy for small bowel obstruction due to recurrent cancer. The primary cancer was colorectal (31), gynaecologic cancer (19), melanoma (16) and others (13). Overall, the rate of complications was 35% and mortality was 10%. Median survival was 5 months; patients with history of colorectal cancer had better survival than other cancer (median survival 7 months vs. 4 months; p = 0.02). Multivariate analysis showed that the extent of recurrent disease was the only factor that affected overall survival. Conclusion: Laparotomy for small bowel obstruction is a worthwhile option for patients with malignant small bowel obstruction. Although it is associated with significant morbidity and mortality it offers a reasonable survival benefit in particular for patients with completely resectable disease

OBJECTIFICATION OF WOMEN IN MANDAR FOLKLORE: I PURA PARA'BUE, SAMBA' PARIA, MARA'DIA JAVA AND TO MINJARI DUYUNG

Folktale is part of classic literature that becomes the product of culture and disseminated as a reflection of a culture where the origin comes from. However, folktale characterization primarily for females character that is often described in powerless position because of poverty (weak economy), and careless until they take the wrong decision, thus they become the target of objectification. The researcher takes Mandarnese folktale as the object of this research to study the form of objectification that occurs to females character. This research is qualitative and descriptive. The researcher chose four folktales as the object of this research that was taken from the folktale book arranged by Bustan Basir Maras and colleagues entitled The Story of the Mandar People (Cari-Caritana To Mandar), The Stories of Mandarnese. The result of this research describes clearly the form of Nussbaum objectification version that found women as an object, objects of violation, women can be owned/bought/sold, and denial of subjectivity. In this research was also found that when women have power or supernatural ability they are often shown as sinister, and scary and need to be avoided because that is not a common phenomenon. But if it happened to men, they are often shown as powerful, dominant and strong

    RATIONALLY INJECTIVE MODULES

In this work we introduce the concept of rationally injective module, which is a proper generalization of (essentially)-injective modules. Several properties and characterizations have been given. In part of this work, we find sufficient conditions for a direct sum of two rationally extending modules to be rationally extending. Finally we generalize some known results

In this research is discussed about a local language that its existence is not well known, it is Kone’ Kone’e language in Bonde village, Campalagian district, Polewali Mandar region of West Sulawesi. People used to get this language wrong to be known as one of Mandarnese language, whereas this language is part of ancient Buginese language, the seventh dialect. Its existence among the majority language still survive eventhough its speaker is the minority. In this research the aim of the author is toreveal what factors behind the existence of this language to still survive, in this case the author has limited this study in the field of family, neighbourhood, and religion. The method that is used in this research is descriptive qualitative method where gathered all opinion, response, information in the form of description to reveal the problem. In defensing the existence of this language there are some factors such as lexical, demography, language usage pattern, and language attitude in the field of family, neighbourhood ad religion. Whole four factors have been done by the villagers in Bonde, that is why until today this language still survive in the middle of majority language
