    This study examined the effect of world oil prices, inflation, and net exports on economic growth in Indonesia. This study used time-series data from 1981-to 2020 obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics of Indonesia and Bank Indonesia. The data were then analyzed using Autoreggresive Distributed Lagregression analysis with the help of Eviews. The results indicated that oil prices and net exports positively and significantly influenced economic growth in Indonesia. It means that if oil prices and net exports increase, then economic growth in Indonesia will also increase. Meanwhile, inflation negatively and insignificantly influenced economic growth in Indonesia. It indicates that if inflation increases, the economic growth in Indonesia will decrease

    Practicing care-full scholarship: Exploring the use of ‘visual informed consent’ in a study of motherhood, health and agroecology in Coventry, UK

    The demand for alternative methods of providing informed consent is increasing, especially in research with marginalised (or illiterate) research participants. This article discusses the co-creation of a visual informed consent (VIC), in collaboration with an artist. The VIC was inspired by the experience of obtaining informed consent from a group of migrant women with limited English proficiency, in empirical research undertaken on agroecology and health in Coventry, UK. Reflecting further on its creation and wider utility, this article explores the inner values that might guide researchers and lead to the co-creation of care-full tools that meet the needs of research participants. Specifically, this includes, reflecting on the iterative process of developing a VIC and using an ethics of care as a primary conceptual framework. Findings reveal that participants’ understanding of ethical issues is facilitated using visual illustrations. It is argued that the creation of a VIC requires the researcher to be attentive to the embodied nature of research practice and guided by an ethics of care. A conceptual framework that integrates care and embodiment is presented, with the intention that it may further support the development of care-full research by others

    Study on regioselective synthesis of bioactive bis-spiropyrazolines using molecular orbital calculations

    1,3-Dipolar cycloaddition reaction of (2E,2'E)-2,2'-(1,4-phenylene bis(methanylylidene)) bis(3,4-dihydronaphthalen-1(2H)-one) (3) and 2,2'-(1,4-phenylene bis(methanylylidene)) bis(1H-indene-1,3(2H)-dione) (8) with a variety of nitrilimines, generated in situ by triethylamine dehydrohalogenation of the corresponding hydrazonoyl halides, (4) proceeded region-selectively and affording novel spiropyrazoline derivatives 5 and 10, respectively. The mechanisms of the reactions studied are discussed and the structures of the products were confirmed by spectral data and elemental analyses. Also, molecular orbital plots for HOMO and LUMO verify our suggested mechanism and stereo-selectivity of the reaction. The antimicrobial activity of the products was evaluated and promising results were obtained.

    Efficacy and safety of misoprostol for intrauterine device insertion in women with no previous vaginal delivery: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

    Introduction: The efficacy of misoprostol use for cervical priming before intrauterine device insertion (IUD) is controversial. This review aims to evaluate the evidence from published randomized controlled trials about the efficacy and safety of misoprostol before IUD insertion for pain relief in women with no previous vaginal delivery. Materials and methods: We searched the following electronic databases: Web of Science, Cochrane CENTRAL, SCOPUS, and PubMed for relevant studies using the following Mesh terms: (misoprostol) AND (intrauterine device OR IUD). The primary outcome was the mean pain score during insertion. Secondary outcomes included the ease of insertion score, the rate of successful IUD insertion, the rate of IUD insertion failure, and the adverse effects. Results: Ten randomized controlled trials (RCTs) (misoprostol: n=698 and placebo: n=689) were pooled in the analysis. The overall Standardized Mean Difference (SMD) of pain score did not favor either of the two groups (SMD= -0.09, 95%CI [-0.50, 0.33], p=0.007). Pooled results were highly heterogeneous (I2=93%, P<0.001). The total MD of the ease of insertion score favored the misoprostol group (MD= -1.36, 95% CI [-2.20, -0.52], p =0.002). The overall risk ratio (RR) of the number of failed insertions showed that misoprostol is associated with less IUD insertion failures compared to placebo (RR=0.55, 95% CI [0.38, 0.81], p=0.002). Finally, the overall risk showed that misoprostol is associated with more shivering, diarrhea and pelvic pain. Conclusions: Misoprostol facilitates IUD insertion in women with no previous vaginal delivery, and is associated with 50% less chance for IUD insertion failure despite inducing mild adverse effect

    Inhibition of GSK-3β activity attenuates proliferation of human colon cancer cells in rodents

    The authors\u27 recent discovery that glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) participates in colon cancer cells\u27 survival and proliferation prompted us to investigate whether GSK-3β inhibition alters proliferation of colon cancer cells in vivo. Groups of four or five athymic mice (Balb/c, nu/nu) with subcutaneous xenografts of SW480 human colon cancer cells were treated with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) or different doses (1, 2 and 5mg/kg body weight) of either small-molecule GSK-3β inhibitor (SB-216763 and AR-A014418) by intraperitoneal injection three times per week for 5 weeks. Compared with DMSO (a diluent of the GSK-3β inhibitors) as a control, either GSK-3β inhibitor significantly inhibited proliferation of cancer cell xenografts in the rodents in a dose-dependent manner. Histochemical and immunohistochemical analysis of tumor xenografts demonstrated a significant, dose-dependent decrease in fractions of proliferating cells and an increase in the incidence of apoptosis of cancer cells in mice treated with either GSK-3β inhibitor. No adverse events or effects were observed in the rodents during the course of treatment, except for rare lethal accidents due to intraperitoneal injection. Morphological examination showed no apparent pathologic changes in major organs including the lungs, liver, pancreas, kidneys, spleen and large bowel of rodents treated with DMSO and the GSK-3β inhibitors. The results indicate that the GSK-3β inhibitors would be a novel class of therapeutic agent for colon cancer. Š 2007 Japanese Cancer Association

    In Situ X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy of Metal/Nitrogen-doped Carbons in Oxygen Electrocatalysis

    Metal/nitrogen-doped carbons (M−N−C) are promising candidates as oxygen electrocatalysts due to their low cost, tunable catalytic activity and selectivity, and well-dispersed morphologies. To improve the electrocatalytic performance of such systems, it is critical to gain a detailed understanding of their structure and properties through advanced characterization. In situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) serves as a powerful tool to probe both the active sites and structural evolution of catalytic materials under reaction conditions. In this review, we firstly provide an overview of the fundamental concepts of XAS and then comprehensively review the setup and application of in situ XAS, introducing electrochemical XAS cells, experimental methods, as well as primary functions on catalytic applications. The active sites and the structural evolution of M−N−C catalysts caused by the interplay with electric fields, electrolytes and reactants/intermediates during the oxygen evolution reaction and the oxygen reduction reaction are subsequently discussed in detail. Finally, major challenges and future opportunities in this exciting field are highlighted.</p

    Deregulated GSK3β sustains gastrointestinal cancer cells survival by modulating human telomerase reverse transcriptase and telomerase

    金沢大学がん研究所分子標的がん医療研究開発センターPurpose: Glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK3β) regulates multiple cell signaling pathways and has been implicated in glucose intolerance, neurodegenerative disorders, and inflammation. We investigated the expression, activity, and putative pathologic role of GSK3β in gastrointestinal, pancreatic, and liver cancers. Experimental Design: Colon, stomach, pancreatic, and liver cancer cell lines; nonneoplastic HEK293 cells; and matched pairs of normal and tumor tissues of stomach and colon cancer patients were examined for GSK3β expression and its phosphorylation at serine 9 (inactive form) and tyrosine 216 (active form) by Western immunoblotting and for GSK3β activity by in vitro kinase assay. The effects of small-molecule GSK3β inhibitors and of RNA interference on cell survival, proliferation, and apoptosis were examined in vitro and on human colon cancer cell xenografts in athymic mice. The effects of GSK3β inhibition on human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) expression and telomerase activity were compared between colon cancer and HEK293 cells. Results: Cancer cell lines and most cancer tissues showed increased GSK3β expression and increased tyrosine 216 phosphorylation and activity but decreased serine 9 phosphorylation compared with HEK293 cells and nonneoplastic tissues. Inhibition of GSK3β resulted in attenuated cell survival and proliferation and increased apoptosis in most cancer cell lines and in HT-29 xenografts in rodents but not in HEK293 cells. GSK3β inhibition in colon cancer cells was associated with decreased hTERT expression and telomerase activity. Conclusion: The results indicate that deregulated GSK3β sustains gastrointestinal cancer cells survival through modulation of hTERT and telomerase. © 2009 American Association for Cancer Research
