    No full text
The project has delivered a comprehensive and integrated plan and feasibility study for the design, management and assessment of a complex artificial reef built on the Ekofisk field, including around the Ekofisk Tank 2/4T, using suitably prepared and relocated redundant structures from the Greater Ekofisk fiel

EKOREEF - Report 5: Platform reef management

    No full text
This Management report within the Ekoreef programma has the following objectives: • to address platform reef management related issues, presenting relevant background information and placing the issue into the wider context of the complex multi-species, multinational North Sea fishery; • in particular, the potential use to which Ekoreef could be put, and how this may be achieved, is analysed; • management plans for the artificial reef(s) at Ekofisk are proposed. The findings of this report are summarised and simplified in a main summary report for the Ekoreef programme

    EKOREEF - Sub-project 6: Communications

    No full text
The main aim of this report was to present a plan for the discussion of the Ekoreef concept between the current operators and various stakeholder groups. Relevant stakeholder groups were proposed, the roles of the participants were defined, key questions were identified, potential strategies were reviewed and a flexible communications plan was constructed. The findings of this sub-report are to be summarised and simplified in a main report for the Ekoreef programme.Licence PL018 through Phillips Petroleum Company Norwa

    EKOREEF - Report 6: Monitoring

    No full text
A follow-up monitoring and evaluation plan to assess the use and functioning of an artificial reef at Ekofisk is recommended. Experiments or surveys to obtain quantifying data that are currently unknown and which are rcquired for management, assessment or prediction purposes are proposed. The programme should cover a period of at least five years to assess the colonisation and succession patterns on the reef. The data obtained through this monitoring programme will provide an input into the development of a fisheries model for the reef, a social and economic cost-bencfit analysis, an ecological analysis of the spatial utilisation of the site, an ongoing assessment of the environmental effccts, and a GIS database for managing the environmental and socio-economic data, trend evaluation and forecasting.Phillips Petroleum Company Norwa

    EKOREEF - Sub-project 7: Alternative use

    No full text
The Ekofisk Tank 2/4T, may remain in situ and form the nucleus of the reef complex. There is therefore potcntial for the multiple use of this structure. Such alternative uses would help both to justify leaving the structures on the field after cessation and could be a useful means to spark the i magi nation of the public. Alternative uses should ideally be in keeping with the ecological nature of the reef proposal, though not necessarily related to fish. A list of potential alternative uses fulfilling these criteria and a short description will be presented, and can form the basis of further discussions and future detailed planning focused on the uses with the most potential. The findings of this sub-report are to be summarised and simplified in a main report for the Ekoreef programme

EKOREEF – Report 3: Reef configuration

The four main aims of this study were to: define the locations of potential artificial reefs; identify and rank the usefulness of structures to be used as artificial reef components; design artificial reefs according to whether the reef is to be used for enhanced fishing or habitat protection; present alternative scenarios for reef creation at the Greater Ekofisk field. The findings of this report are summarised and simplified in a main summary report for the Ekoreef programme
