Around the Clock Observations of the Q0957+561 A,B Gravitationally Lensed Quasar II: Results for the second observing season

We report on an observing campaign in March 2001 to monitor the brightness of the later arriving Q0957+561 B image in order to compare with the previously published brightness observations of the (first arriving) A image. The 12 participating observatories provided 3543 image frames which we have analyzed for brightness fluctuations. From our classical methods for time delay determination, we find a 417.09 +/- 0.07 day time delay which should be free of effects due to incomplete sampling. During the campaign period, the quasar brightness was relatively constant and only small fluctuations were found; we compare the structure function for the new data with structure function estimates for the 1995--6 epoch, and show that the structure function is statistically non-stationary. We also examine the data for any evidence of correlated fluctuations at zero lag. We discuss the limits to our ability to measure the cosmological time delay if the quasar's emitting surface is time resolved, as seems likely.Comment: AAS LaTeX, 5 PostScript figure

Ücretli öğretmenlerin görevlerini yaparken karşılaştıkları sorunlar ve ücretli öğretmenlik uygulamasının okul yöneticilerince değerlendirilmesi

Bu araştırma ücretli öğretmenlerin hangi çalışma koşullarında görevlerini yerine getirdiklerini ve görevlerini yaparken karşılaştıkları sorunları belirleyerek, ücretli öğretmenlik uygulamasını okul yöneticilerinin görüşlerine göre incelemek amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu araştırma ile sayıları her geçen gün artan ücretli öğretmenlerin karşılaştıkları sorunların belirlenerek, eğitim sistemin en önemli bileşenlerinden olan öğretmenlerin performanslarına ve eğitim kalitesine olabilecek olumsuz yansımalarının ortaya konulması hedeflenmiştir. Amaç doğrultusunda hazırlanan anket formu 2010 – 2011 eğitim yılında Tokat ilinde ücretli olarak görev yapan 122 öğretmene ve bu öğretmenlerin görev yaptıkları okullardaki 85 yöneticiye uygulanmıştır. Araştırmada, nitel ve nicel araştırma metotlarının birlikte kullanıldığı karma desenli betimsel bir araştırma yolu izlenmiştir. Araştırma tarama modelinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmada, ücretli öğretmenlerin ücret ve özlük haklarından memnun olmadıkları, mesleğe olan bağlılıklarının düşük olduğu saptanmıştır. Yönetici görüşlerine göre ise; ücretli öğretmenlerin performanslarının ve öğretmenlik mesleği açısından yeterliklerinin düşük olduğu görülmüştür.The aim of this paper is to determine the issues and working conditions of substitute teachers and to evaluate the practice of substitute teaching from the perspective of school administrators and substitute teachers. Surveys were completed by 122 substitute teachers, and 85 school directors and assistant directors of the schools in Tokat province of Turkey where the substitute teachers served in 2010–2011 education year. In this descriptive research, qualitative and quantitative research methods were employed. Survey findings were analyzed using the SPSS 17.0 program and content analysis was conducted for the open-ended questions. The study concludes that the substitute teachers are not satisfied with the remuneration and the working conditions and as a result, their commitment to the profession is quite low. According to the managers; substitute teachers’ performance levels are low and they don’t have enough qualifications in terms of teaching profession

Investigation of Dry Sliding Wear Behavior of Mg-SiC Alloys Produced by Powder Metallurgy Method

In recent years, Mg alloys have great promise for weight-saving applications, because of their superior properties over mo nolithic metals, in the field of automotive and aerospace industries. In this study, the dry sliding wear behavior of Mg- SiC alloys with different sintering temperatures (375°C, 400°C, 425°C) were investigated. Mg with %10 weight SiC powders were mechanically mixed and alloyed and then fabricated successfully via fast heating under vacuumed argon atmosphere. The friction coefficient, hardness value, and wear resistance of the alloys were higher than those of the pure Mg. The increase in the sintering temperature of the Mg-SiC alloys up to 425°C caused an increase in the friction coefficient and a decrease in the wear mass loss respectively
