Intelligent Temperature-Controlled Poultry Feed Dispensing System with Fuzzy Logic Algorithm

    Get PDF
This study introduces a novel fuzzy logic algorithm tailored to the thermoneutral zone of poultry, offering a precise and adaptive approach to feed dispensation. This involved the utilization of an LCD module to present essential information such as the selected age, real-time ambient temperature, current time, and the dispensed feed quantity. Data gathered during the process were stored in a memory device. The design of the fuzzy logic algorithm centered on the thermoneutral zone of the chicken serves as the determinant for feed dispensed by the system. It's crucial to note that while the system lacked artificial intelligence (AI), its logical analysis operated based on the fuzzy logic algorithm. Rigorous testing ensued, encompassing the comparison of feed dispensation between automated and manual systems and the assessment of feed waste and broiler weight.  Significant feed waste reduction in the first week demonstrated the efficacy of the fuzzy-based method, with consistently low p-values of 0.00069, 0.015195, and 0.034 across subsequent weeks confirming the consistent outperformance in broiler weight compared to the traditional feeding technique. The findings contribute to the advancement of temperature-based poultry feed systems, addressing key challenges in optimizing feed quantity. The study successfully met its objectives, demonstrating the system's capability to dispense feeds effectively across varying ambient temperatures.  Notably, the study revealed a consistent alignment of system outputs with those obtained from a digital thermometer and digital weighing scale, confirming the accuracy and reliability of the temperature-based feed dispensing system

X-ray grating interferometry design for the 4D GRAPH-X system

The 4D GRAPH-X (Dynamic GRAting-based PHase contrast x-ray imaging) project aims at developing a prototype of an x-ray grating-based phase-contrast imaging scanner in a laboratory setting, which is based on the Moire single-shot acquisition method in order to be optimized for analysing moving objects (in the specific case, a dynamic thorax phantom), that could evolve into a suitable tool for biomedical applications although it can be extended to other application fields. When designing an x-ray Talbot-Lau interferometer, high visibility and sensitivity are two important figures of merit, strictly related to the performance of the system in obtaining high quality phase contrast and dark-field images. Wave field simulations are performed to optimize the setup specifications and construct a high-resolution and high-sensitivity imaging system. In this work, the design of a dynamic imaging setup using a conventional milli-focus x-ray source is presented. Optimization by wave front simulations leads to a symmetric configuration with 5.25 mu m pitch at third Talbot order and 45 keV design energy. The simulated visibility is about 22%. Results from GATE based Monte Carlo simulations show a 19% transmission percentage of the incoming beam into the detector after passing through all the gratings and the sample. Such results are promising in view of building a system optimized for dynamic imaging

The present paper is part of the investigation. It aimed to identify and describe the status of sport and physical education in the town of Medellin from the assessments of teachers attending basic primary education in the town of Medellin, for which he used the quantitative approach from one study experimental descriptive, where 140 teachers from public and private educational institutions participated Medellin. Its main contributions are in the context of educational institutions and sports training, defining routes for improvement for both scenarios from complementary dimensions in policies, infrastructure, ongoing teacher training and discipline for professionals that serve the area and their extracurricular activities. It is striking that only 26.4% of teachers serving in primary area have specific training in Physical Education, Recreation and Sports, none of the participating teachers have doctoral degrees, only 26.4% of teachers Basic Elementary have exclusive Physical Education, Recreation and Sport dedication, among other findings. This entails a development path for the teaching and discipline of teachers of Physical Education, Recreation and Sports Primary Basic that must be addressed from the design of public policies, access to training posgradual levels, the establishment of teacher training programs discipline and permanent alliance from the Ministry of Education and the universities of the region in Antioquia and Colombia.

Geologising urban political ecology (UPE): the urbanisation of sand in Accra, Ghana

This paper makes a call for an urban political ecology (UPE) which engages more extensively with Earth’s geological formations. As a material at the centre of global urbanisation process, sand is offered as a geological entry point. The paper presents an analysis of the urbanisation of sand, or the ways in which sand is brought into the urban realm, grounding this reading in Accra—a growing city on Ghana’s Atlantic coast. Drawing from 14 months of ethnographic fieldwork, the paper charts the socio-natural politics through which sand is first unearthed from the edges of the city—an extractive processes otherwise known as “sand winning” in Ghana. By examining the forms of power which govern uneven revenue flows to communities, the displacement of farming groups, the widespread loss of farmland and a contested regime of governance, the analysis exposes the socio-natural politics through which the city’s geological baseline is first unearthed

Transcriptome and gene expression analysis of three developmental stages of the coffee berry borer, Hypothenemus hampei

Coffee production is a global industry valued at approximately 173 billion US dollars. One of the main challenges facing coffee production is the management of the coffee berry borer (CBB), Hypothenemus hampei, which is considered the primary arthropod pest of coffee worldwide. Current control strategies are inefficient for CBB management. Although biotechnological alternatives, including RNA interference (RNAi), have been proposed in recent years to control insect pests, characterizing the genetics of the target pest is essential for the successful application of these emerging technologies. In this study, we employed RNA-seq to obtain the transcriptome of three developmental stages of the CBB (larva, female and male) to increase our understanding of the CBB life cycle in relation to molecular features. The CBB transcriptome was sequenced using Illumina Hiseq and assembled de novo. Differential gene expression analysis was performed across the developmental stages. The final assembly produced 29,434 unigenes, of which 4,664 transcripts were differentially expressed. Genes linked to crucial physiological functions, such as digestion and detoxification, were determined to be tightly regulated between the reproductive and nonreproductive stages of CBB. The data obtained in this study help to elucidate the critical roles that several genes play as regulatory elements in CBB development
