The effect of livestock, altitude and slope on a red-legged partridge population in Alentejo, Portugal
Red-legged partridge (Alectoris rufa) is a non-migratory bird found mainly in the Iberian
Peninsula whose conservation status is Least Concern. However, in the last decades there
has been a growing concern for the loss of habitat quality due to the results of either land
abandonment or farming intensification.
This study was conducted in an agrosilvopastoral land use system called montado
Resonant and nonresonant D+ -> K- pi+ l+ nu(l) semileptonic decays
We analyse the semileptonic decay D+ -> K- pi+ l+ nu(l) using an effective
Lagrangian developed previously to describe the decays D -> P l nu(l) and D ->
V l nu(l). Light vector mesons are included in the model which combines the
heavy quark effective Lagrangian and chiral perturbation theory approach. The
nonresonant and resonant contributions are compared. With no new parameters the
model correctly reproduces the measured ratio Gamma(nres)/Gamma(nres + res). We
also present useful nonresonant decay distributions. Finally, a similar model,
but with a modified current which satisfies the soft pion theorems at the
expense of introducing another parameter, is analyzed and the results of the
models are compared.Comment: 17 pages, 3 Postscript figures, standard Latex, extended revision,

Heavy Quark Symmetry Violation in Semileptonic Decays of D Mesons
The decays of mesons to and final states exhibit
significant deviations from the predictions of heavy-quark symmetry, as one
might expect since the strange quark's mass is of the same order as the QCD
scale. Nonetheless, in order to understand where the most significant effects
might lie for heavier systems (such as and ),
the pattern of these deviations is analyzed from the standpoint of perturbative
QCD and corrections. Two main effects are noted. First, the
perturbative QCD corrections lead to an overall decrease of predicted rates,
which can be understood in terms of production of excited kaonic states.
Second, effects tend to cancel the perturbative QCD
corrections in the case of decay, while they have minimal effect in
decay.Comment: 25 pages (LaTeX) + 7 pages of Postscript figures (included at end),

Application of GIS in potential beekeeping assessment: Case study of Montesinho Natural Park (Portugal)
Planners require solutions that address routine work needs and seems essential to improving efficiency and
productivity. There are a great number of different factors related to beekeeper activity as well the quality and
productivity of different bee products. The spatial analysis is a powerful tool for overlap and relates various levels
of information on a map, and consequently a very useful for beekeeping activity planning. This work proposes
and applies a methodology to potential beekeeping assessment in Montesinho Natural Park, a region in the
northwest of Portugal. The beekeeping potential maps were developed with the following data sources: legal
standards, vegetation, land use, topography, water resources, roads, electromagnetic fields, and some honey
physico-chemical analysis. The design and implementation of spatial analysis model based on Geographic
Information System (GIS) to beekeeping planning activities has already been described by Anjos et al (2014).
Spatial analysis techniques allows to define the potential beekeeper map supporting the beekeeper management
in this region. Anjos O, Silva G, Roque N, Fernandez P, 2014. GIS based analysis to support the beekeeping

A Phenomenological Analysis of Non-resonant Charm Meson Decays
We analyse the consequences of the usual assumption of a constant function to
fit non-resonant decays from experimental Dalitz plot describing charmed meson
decays. We first show, using the decay channel as
an example, how an inadequate extraction of the non-resonant contribution could
yield incorrect measurements for the resonant channels. We analyse how the
correct study of this decay will provide a test for the validity of
factorization in D meson decays. Finally, we show how form factors could be
extracted from non-resonant decays. We particularly discuss about the form
factor that can be measured from the decay. We
emphasize on its relevance for the study of the decay and the extraction of the meson width.Comment: 14 pages, Latex including 6 eps figure
Method for Flavor Tagging in Neutral B Meson Decays
A method is proposed for tagging the flavor of neutral mesons in the
study of CP-violating decay asymmetries. The method makes use of a possible
difference in interactions in or systems with isospins 1/2
and 3/2, and would be particularly clean if the systems can be
detected as ``'' resonances.Comment: Submitted to Phys. Rev. D. 11 pages, LaTeX, Technion-PH-92-40 / PITHA

Excited Heavy Mesons Beyond Leading Order in the Heavy Quark Expansion
We examine the decays of excited heavy mesons, including the leading power
corrections to the heavy quark limit. We find a new and natural explanation for
the large deviation of the width of the from the heavy quark
symmetry prediction. Our formalism leads to detailed predictions for the
properties of the excited bottom mesons, some of which recently have been
observed. Finally, we present a detailed analysis of the effect of power
corrections and finite meson widths on the angular distributions which may be
measured in heavy meson decays.Comment: Uses REVTeX, 19 pages, 6 EPS figures embedded with epsf.st
Role of Light Vector Mesons in the Heavy Particle Chiral Lagrangian
We give the general framework for adding "light" vector particles to the
heavy hadron effective chiral Lagrangian. This has strong motivations both from
the phenomenological and aesthetic standpoints. An application to the already
observed D \rightarrow \overbar{K^*} weak transition amplitude is discussed.Comment: 19 pages, LaTeX documen
