Situação atual da resistência do carrapato-do-boi Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus aos acaricidas no Brasil.

Rhipicephalus microplus é o principal ectoparasita hematófago dos bovinos, presente nas diversas regiões do país. É causador de enormes perdas econômicas pela espoliação que causa ao hospedeiro, além de ser transmissor da tristeza parasitária bovina. O principal método de controle utilizado atualmente é o controle químico, mas é crescente o número de relatos que apontam um aumento das populações resistentes de carrapatos a diversos princípios químicos presentes nos acaricidas. As bases moleculares da resistência em R. microplus ainda não são totalmente conhecidas, mas muitos estudos indicam alguns mecanismos associados. O estudo dos mecanismos de resistência no carrapato aos acaricidas é de fundamental importância para a eficiência do seu controle no rebanho bovino. Aeolian sans ripples: experimental study of saturated states

We report an experimental investigation of aeolian sand ripples, performed both in a wind tunnel and on stoss slopes of dunes. Starting from a flat bed, we can identify three regimes: appearance of an initial wavelength, coarsening of the pattern and finally saturation of the ripples. We show that both initial and final wavelengths, as well as the propagative speed of the ripples, are linear functions of the wind velocity. Investigating the evolution of an initially corrugated bed, we exhibit non-linear stable solutions for a finite range of wavelengths, which demonstrates the existence of a saturation in amplitude. Flow rule, self-channelization and levees in unconfined granular flows

Unconfined granular flows along an inclined plane are investigated experimentally. During a long transient, the flow gets confined by quasistatic banks but still spreads laterally towards a well-defined asymptotic state following a nontrivial process. Far enough from the banks a scaling for the depth averaged velocity is obtained, which extends the one obtained for homogeneous steady flows. Close to jamming it exhibits a crossover towards a nonlocal rheology. We show that the levees, commonly observed along the sides of the deposit upon interruption of the flow, disappear for long flow durations. We demonstrate that the morphology of the deposit builds up during the flow, in the form of an underlying static layer, which can be deduced from surface velocity profiles, by imposing the same flow rule everywhere in the flow.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure

Erosion waves: transverse instabilities and fingering

Two laboratory scale experiments of dry and under-water avalanches of non-cohesive granular materials are investigated. We trigger solitary waves and study the conditions under which the front is transversally stable. We show the existence of a linear instability followed by a coarsening dynamics and finally the onset of a fingering pattern. Due to the different operating conditions, both experiments strongly differ by the spatial and time scales involved. Nevertheless, the quantitative agreement between the stability diagram, the wavelengths selected and the avalanche morphology reveals a common scenario for an erosion/deposition process.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figures, submitted to PR

Twistor theory of symplectic manifolds

This article is a contribution to the understanding of the geometry of the twistor space of a symplectic manifold. We consider the bundle $Z$ with fibre the Siegel domain Sp(2n,R)/U(n) existing over any given symplectic 2n-manifold M. Then, after recalling the construction of the almost complex structure induced on $Z$ by a symplectic connection on M, we study and find some specific properties of both. We show a few examples of twistor spaces, develop the interplay with the symplectomorphisms of M, find some results about a natural almost Hermitian structure on $Z$ and finally prove its n+1-holomorphic completeness. We end by proving a vanishing theorem about the Penrose transform.Comment: 34 page

Técnicas de manejo reprodutivo em bovinos de corte.

Na pecuária de corte, a exploração comercial do sistema de cria se constitui na fase do sistema produtivo, que envolve a criação e o manejo não só das matrizes bovinas e seus respectivos bezerros ate a desmama, mas também das novilhas de reposição e dos touros. Esse sistema tem por objetivo a produção de bezerros desmamados que representa a maior fonte de receita do criador. A venda de vacas descartadas e outros animais, apesar de contribuírem para a produção total, e uma fonte de receita marginal, mas também muito importante para o criador. Portanto, a viabilidade do sistema vai depender da eficácia e eficiência com que são utilizados os meios disponíveis para a otimização da produtividade. O escopo deste trabalho foi o de apresentar e discutir as principais praticas de manejo reprodutivo, que visam a otimização da produtividade, na forma de quilos de peso vivo de bezerro desmamado por hectare/ano.
