    Get PDF
The present study seeks to examine the significance of cybersecurity measures, specifically encryption strength (ES), firewall configuration (FC), and authentication protocols (AP), in protecting e-commerce platforms against cyber-attacks. The data collection process involved the administration of a survey to IT professionals responsible for overseeing e-commerce operations in a range of organisations located in Saudi Arabia. A convenience sampling method was employed to distribute a total of 300 questionnaires, out of which 190 completed responses were selected for analysis. The measurement model, which encompassed variables such as ES, FC, AP, security training (ST), cyber-attack incidents (CAI), customer trust (CT), and incident response time (IRT), was estimated using the structural equation model in Amos. The results of this study provide insights into the relationship between cybersecurity measures and their influence on the frequency of cyberattacks. The study highlights the significance of encryption, firewall configuration, and authentication protocols in strengthening e- commerce platforms. Additionally, this study examines the impact of security training on the improvement of overall cybersecurity posture and its subsequent effect on customer trust. The examination also takes into account the duration of incident response as a critical element in minimising the consequences of cyber incidents. The findings obtained from this study contribute to a more comprehensive comprehension of the cybersecurity environment within the realm of electronic commerce

Background: This study aimed to explore the attitudes and knowledge of university students in Gaza to organ donation. Methods: A structured questionnaire was used to collect data including socio-demographic characteristics, knowledge level and attitudes of participants toward organ donation and factors that affect personal beliefs of the participants on donation. The questionnaire was distributed using the convenience method to 489 (179 males, 310 females) students at the Islamic University of Gaza. The data were analyzed in a descriptive fashion using SPSS program. Results: The study showed that 97.5% of participants were acquainted with the term ā€œorgan donationā€. Those participants were eligible and were asked to complete the questionnaire. Less than half of participants chose multimedia as the main source of information regarding organ donation and more than half of respondents (56%) said that,ā€œsaving livesā€ was the most important reason for organ donation. One fifth of participants (22%) reported that they completely reject donating any of their organs during their lifetimes, whereas more than one fourth of them (27%) reported that they refuse organ donation even after death.(54%) of students denied any knowledge about local or international legislation regulating organ donation. Conclusion: The results of the study confirm the presence of good level of knowledge regarding organ donation among participants, which was reflected in their positive attitudes towards organ donation. However, one of the main concerns to promote organ donation was the fear of surgery and its complications. Additionally, legislative, educational and

Who is the best player ever? A complex network analysis of the history of professional tennis

    Get PDF
We consider all matches played by professional tennis players between 1968 and 2010, and, on the basis of this data set, construct a directed and weighted network of contacts. The resulting graph shows complex features, typical of many real networked systems studied in literature. We develop a diffusion algorithm and apply it to the tennis contact network in order to rank professional players. Jimmy Connors is identified as the best player of the history of tennis according to our ranking procedure. We perform a complete analysis by determining the best players on specific playing surfaces as well as the best ones in each of the years covered by the data set. The results of our technique are compared to those of two other well established methods. In general, we observe that our ranking method performs better: it has a higher predictive power and does not require the arbitrary introduction of external criteria for the correct assessment of the quality of players. The present work provides a novel evidence of the utility of tools and methods of network theory in real applications.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, 4 table

Text documents clustering using modified multi-verse optimizer

    Get PDF
In this study, a multi-verse optimizer (MVO) is utilised for the text document clus- tering (TDC) problem. TDC is treated as a discrete optimization problem, and an objective function based on the Euclidean distance is applied as similarity measure. TDC is tackled by the division of the documents into clusters; documents belonging to the same cluster are similar, whereas those belonging to different clusters are dissimilar. MVO, which is a recent metaheuristic optimization algorithm established for continuous optimization problems, can intelligently navigate different areas in the search space and search deeply in each area using a particular learning mechanism. The proposed algorithm is called MVOTDC, and it adopts the convergence behaviour of MVO operators to deal with discrete, rather than continuous, optimization problems. For evaluating MVOTDC, a comprehensive comparative study is conducted on six text document datasets with various numbers of documents and clusters. The quality of the ļ¬nal results is assessed using precision, recall, F-measure, entropy accuracy, and purity measures. Experimental results reveal that the proposed method performs competitively in comparison with state-of-the-art algorithms. Statistical analysis is also conducted and shows that MVOTDC can produce signiļ¬cant results in comparison with three well-established methods

Precursor- route ZnO films from mixed casting solvent for high performance aqueous electrolyte- gated transistors

    Get PDF
We significantly improved the properties of semiconducting zinc oxide (ZnO) films resulting from the thermal conversion of a soluble precursor, zinc acetate (ZnAc), by using a mixed casting solvent for the precursor. ZnAc dissolves more readily in a 1:1 mix of ethanol (EtOH) and acetone than in either pure EtOH, pure acetone, or pure isopropanol, and ZnO films converted from mixed solvent cast ZnAc are more homogeneous. When gated with a biocompatible electrolyte, phosphate buffered saline (PBS), ZnO thin film transistors (TFTs) derived from mixed solvent cast ZnAc give 7 times larger field effect current than similar films derived from ZnAc cast from pure EtOH. Sheet resistance at VG = VD = 1V is 18 kĪ©/ā–¢, lower than for any organic TFT, and lower than for any water- gated ZnO TFT, reported to date

    Epilepsy and Cerebral Palsy

    Get PDF
Abnormalities of muscle tone, movement, and motor skills are the hallmark of cerebral palsy (CP) which results from injury to the developing brain. Clinically, the syndrome evolves over time and may only be apparent after 3ā€“5Ā years of age, although suggestive signs and symptoms may be present at an earlier age. Epilepsy is common in CP and occurs in about 30% of patients. Generally, the onset is within the first 2Ā years of life. Epilepsy is commonly observed in children with spastic hemiplegia, followed by quadriplegia and diplegia. Significant risk factors for the development of epilepsy in patients with CP are family history, neonatal seizure, structural abnormalities, low Apgar scores, and mental retardation. Focal to bilateral tonic-clonic seizures are the most prominent seizure types, followed by focal aware or impaired awareness seizures, while infantile spasms and myoclonic jerks are seen in 25% of cases. Mental retardation is a predisposing factor for early onset of seizures and more severe epilepsy. The overall outcome of seizures in children with CP is generally poor, requiring prolonged course of antiepileptic medication, usually polytherapy with higher incidence of refractory seizures, side effects, comorbidities, and hospital admissions for drug-resistant seizures or status epilepticus

Assessment of Resilience in Desalination Infrastructure Using Semi-Markov Models

    Get PDF
As the supply of desalinated water becomes significant in many countries, the reliable long-term operation of desalination infrastructure becomes paramount. As it is not realistic to build desalination systems with components that never fail, instead the system should be designed with more resilience. To answer the question how resilient the system should be, we present in this paper a quantitative approach to measure system resilience using semi-Markov models. This approach allows to probabilistically represent the resilience of a desalination system, considering the functional or failed states of its components, as well as the probability of failure and repair rates. As the desalination plants are connected with the end-user through water transportation and distribution networks, this approach also enables an evaluation of various network configurations and resilience strategies. A case study addressing a segment of the water system in Saudi Arabia is given with the results, benefits, and limitations of the technique discussed.Center for Complex Engineering Systems at MIT and KACSTUnited States. Innate cation sensitivity in a semiconducting polymer

    Get PDF
Water- gated organic thin film transistors (OTFTs) using the hole transporting semiconducting polymer, poly(2,5-bis(3-hexadecylthiophen-2-yl)thieno[3,2-b]thiophene) (PBTTT), show an innate response of their threshold voltage to the addition of divalent metal cations to the gating water, without deliberately introducing an ion- sensitive component. A similar threshold response is shown for several divalent cations, but is absent for monovalent cations. Response is absent for transistors using the inorganic semiconductor ZnO, or the similar organic semiconductor poly(3-hexylthiophene) (rrP3HT), instead of PBTTT. We assign innate cation sensitivity to residues of the organometallic Pd(0) complex used as catalyst in PBTTT synthesis which bears strong resemblance to typical metal chelating agents. Organometallic Pd(0) residues are absent from ZnO, and also from rrP3HT which is polymerised with a different type of catalyst. However, when Pd(0) complex is deliberately added to rrP3HT casting solutions, resulting OTFTs also display threshold response to a divalent cation

    Get PDF
This is a prospective, hospital-based study reporting an update and the prevalence of nonconvulsive status epilepticus (NCSE) in patients with altered mental status (AMS) in Qatar. Patients presenting with NCSE are compared to controls. Two-hundred and fifty patients with AMS are involved. Patients with NCSE are: 65 (12ā€“79 years, m, 37, f, 28); controls: 185 (12ā€“80 years, m, 101, f, 84). Occurrence of NCSE in patients with AMS was 26%. NCSE patients were younger than controls (pĀ <Ā 0.001). Deaths in the NCSE group occurred in 31% and 19% in controls (pĀ <Ā 0.0007). Hospitalization length was longer in NCSE proper and in comatose NCSE compared to controls (pĀ <Ā 0.02, pĀ <Ā 0.03). Recovery occurred in 40% of NCSE patients and 53% of controls (pĀ <Ā 0.08). About 31% of patients (nĀ =Ā 21) had refractory NCSE and 9 died. This is the first study reporting the prevalence of NCSE in Qatar. This prevalence (26%) is in the middle range. NCSE did not do better than the controls, result being disappointing regarding comatose NCSE.Ā NCSE is an emerging condition requiring rapid diagnosis and rapid treatment. Regarding the optimal duration of continuous EGG (cEEG) monitoring to diagnose the majority of NCSE cases, 3 days of cEEG monitoring could accomplish this task
