    Instructional Technologies and Pre-Service Mathematics Teachers’ Selection of Technology

    There are many available technologies that can assist future teachers to deliver instruction. The purpose of this paper is to provide a brief review of literature identifying available technology tools in mathematics education and which technologies are selected by PSTs to design mathematics lesson activities. The most commonly used and available technology tools in mathematics education and the technological tools most frequently selected by PSTs are described, based on an analysis of 68 lesson activities.     Mourning and melancholy: a comparative study on Christopher Okigbo and Dambudzo Marechera

    This study explores the modernist subjectivity in Africa by revisiting two major poets, Christopher Okigbo and Dambudzo Marechera. It argues that the modernist self is created in the form of melancholy and mourning. The main question is to see how the African modernist subjectivity is constructed through poetry. As subjects of colonialism, both Okigbo and Marechera sought to establish new links combining them with the mainstream Euromodernist movement along with their own spiritual roots. In the sense of the construction of a modernist self, the main predicament they have to challenge is the Western knowledge system which infiltrated into mindsets through colonial dominion. Thus, Okigbo and Marechera enact a certain type of positionality strategy to claim their own poetic utterance. By invoking natural and spiritual images the poets demonstrate their affiliation to their roots. The process of mourning, here, becomes a passage through which the poets claim their strong allegiances to their roots. The sense of absence leads the poets to mourn their remote past or culture. The poets' relation with the past determines the dynamics of subjectivity. The idea of the past is so tempting and tantalising in many ways

    An Examination of Pre-Service Mathematics Teachers\u27 Integration of Technology into Instructional Activities Using a Cognitive Demand Perspective and Levels of Technology Implementation

    Technology has changed every aspect of our lives such as communication, shopping, games, business, and education. Technology has been used for decades in the teaching and learning environment in K-12 education and higher education, especially in mathematics education where the use of instructional technology has great potential. Today\u27s students have grown up in the technology era, so our education system should consider this situation before developing curriculum and instructional strategies. Technology can increase the quality of mathematical investigations, portray meaningful mathematical ideas to students and teachers from multiple perspectives, and change traditional ways of doing mathematics (NCTM, 2000). According to NCTM\u27s Principles and Standards for School Mathematics (2000), technologies not only increase students\u27 understanding and learning of mathematics but also help teachers make instruction more effective and meaningful for students. The purpose of this study is to explore how pre-service teachers design mathematics lesson activities that integrate technology. Specifically, the level of cognitive demands of the mathematics tasks in the technology activities: 1) created by pre-service teachers (PST) for an assignment in their elementary, middle level, and/or secondary mathematics methods course, and 2) created and used by secondary mathematics PSTs during student teaching were examined. PSTs designed technology-based instructional activities with high-level cognitive demands, and the mean scores were increased for Described Implementation and Student Response. In these instances, elementary and secondary level PSTs were able to select technology-based tasks with high cognitive demands in greater percentages than middle level PSTs. The mean scores for Described Implementation and Expected Student Response were higher than the means for Potential of the Task for all grade levels. However the means scores for Expected Student Response were lower than the means for Described Implementation for the elementary and middle levels, and the means scores are same for the secondary level. The results also indicated that PSTs were doing very well with their own personal computer use, troubleshooting, identification of instructional practices that reflected a learner-based curriculum design, and effectively technology implementation. By the analyzing relationship between IQA rubrics scores (Potential of the Task, Describe Implementation, and Expected Student Response) and each LoTi-Digital Age levels (PCU, CIP, and LoTi), the researcher discovered that the LoTi Digital-Age scores did not correlate with the IQA scores

    The Effect of Web-Assisted Education Based on Constructivist Approach on Turkish Preservice Teachers’ Academic Success and Attitudes on Otmt Lesson

    The aim of this study is to determine the effects of “Teacher-Centered Education” and “Web Assisted Education” based on constructivist approach on pre-service Turkish teachers’ academic achievements, attitudes toward to computer and lesson, skills of preparation three-dimensional materials in “Instructional Technologies and Material Design” lesson and is evaluated in accordance with the opinion of the pre-service teachers. The sample of this study consists of 68 second grade pre-service Turkish teachers in Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University Education Faculty during the 2012-2013 spring terms of academic years. This study was carried out in two different groups. One of these groups was Web Assisted Education Group (WAEG, n=34) that web assisted education was applied and the other one was Control Group (CG, n=34) in which teacher-centered instruction was applied. As the data collection instruments, Academic Success Test (AST) and Attitude Scale towards OTMT (ASOTMT) were used. The data obtained on instruments were evaluated by using descriptive statistics, t-test analyzes. As a result of this study indicate that teaching of the subjects with Web Assisted Education method was more effective on students’ academic achievements and attitudes toward to computer and lesson.     Nagli pomaci u tlu mogu dovesti do oštećenja armiranobetonskih građevina. Takvi pomaci mogu između ostalog biti uzrokovani gradnjom tunela, pa se utjecaj takve gradnje treba uzeti u obzir u postupku projektiranja građevina. U ovom se radu na primjeru postojeće bolničke zgrade analiziraju konstrukcijska oštećenja armiranobetonske građevine uslijed naglih pomaka tla. Kako bi se dobili što točniji podaci za potrebe analiza, primijenjen je multidisciplinarni pristup radi povezivanja raznih inženjerskih disciplina koje su sudjelovale u ovom istraživanju.Structural damages to RC (Reinforced concrete) buildings occasionally occur as a consequence of sudden ground movements. One of these is effect of tunnel excavation on the structures and the design process should be carried out by taking the effect into account. In this study, the structural damages caused by the impact of sudden movement emanating at the ground were investigated for a selected hospital building. We aimed to report an atherosclerotic double RCA which appeared after primary percutaneous intervention performed to treat acute inferior myocardial infarction. This is the first case in the literature, which the coronary arteries that can be accepted as double RCA have been hidden by total atherosclerotic occlusion of the proximal part of the RCA.     Comparative review of biochemistry and cell anatomy of the hepatic tissue in rats administered some anti hypertensive drug for a long time

    The adverse biochemical and structural effects of antihypertensive drugs over a long period (clonidine, methyldopa, rilmenidine, amlodipine, ramipril) on hepatic tissue has been examined in this study. The results are considered to be beneficial for the identification of indications and contraindications in hypertensive patients. Severe bile duct proliferation, portal inflammation, interface hepatitis, focal necrosis and hepatocyte degeneration were demonstrated in the clonidine and amlodipine groups, which had higher oxidant parameters, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine amino transferase and lactate dehydrogenase activity and a higher amount of 8-OH Gua. In the group receiving rilmenidine, all the histopathological findings were the same as those in the clonidine and amlodipine groups, except for bile duct proliferation and interface hepatitis. On histopathological examination of the cell anatomy, it was shown that methyldopa and ramipril caused mild liver damage. While clonidine and amlodipine gave rise to severe liver damage, rilmenidine caused moderate damage, and methyldopa and ramipril led to mild loss of liver function.Colegio de Farmacéuticos de la Provincia de Buenos Aire
