Possibility of Searching for Fourth Generation Neutrino at Future ep Colliders
We investigate the production of fourth generation neutrino in the context of
new magnetic dipole moment type interaction in collisions at
the future lepton-hadron colliders. We have obtained the mass limits of 700 GeV
for THERA (=1 TeV) and 2.8 TeV for LC LHC (=3.74
TeV).Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures, typos adde
Effect of Thermal Treatments on the Transduction Behaviors of Conductometric Hydrogen Gas Sensors Integrated with HCl-Doped Polyaniline Nanofibers
We present the effect of thermal treatments on the transduction behaviors of HCl-doped polyaniline (PANI) nanofibers integrated in conductometric devices upon exposure to 1% H2 (carried by N2). After drying in N2 at 25ÂșC for 12 hours, devices showed a ~10% decrease in electrical resistance upon exposure to 1% H2. However, devices subject to 12-hour drying in N2 at 25ÂșC followed by further thermal treatments in N2 at 100ÂșC, 164ÂșC or 200ÂșC for 30 minutes showed different transduction behaviors. Specifically, devices subject to thermal treatments at 100ÂșC and 164ÂșC showed a decrease in electrical resistance by ~7% and \u3c0.5%, respectively. More interestingly, the device subject to thermal treatment at 200ÂșC showed a transduction behavior with opposite polarity, i.e. a ~5% increase in electrical resistance upon exposure to 1% H2. SEM, FTIR and TGA were employed to investigate the effect of thermal treatments on the morphology and chemical characteristics of HCl-doped polyaniline nanofibers. The results indicated that the change in the devices? interesting transduction behaviors might be related to the thermal treatment effects on the HCl-doped PANI nanofibers in (i) removal of adsorbed water, and (ii) crosslinking and/or degradation of polymer backbones
Anomalous single production of fourth generation quarks at ILC and CLIC
We present a detailed study of the anomalous single fourth generation
quark production within the dominant Standard Model(SM) decay modes at future
colliders. We calculate the signal and background cross sections in
the mass range 300-800 GeV. We also discuss the limits of and
() anomalous couplings as well as values of attainable integrated
luminosity for 3 observation limit.Comment: 12 pages, 14 figures, version to be published on Nucl.Phys.
Pair production of the heavy leptons in future high energy linear e^{+}e^{-} colliders
The littlest Higgs model with T-parity predicts the existence of the T-odd
particles, which can only be produced in pair. We consider pair production of
the T-odd leptons in future high energy linear collider ().
Our numerical results show that, as long as the T-odd leptons are not too
heavy, they can be copiously produced and their possible signals might be
detected via the processes in future
experiments.Comment: Discussions added, typos and references correcte
Critical scaling of the a.c. conductivity for a superconductor above Tc
We consider the effects of critical superconducting fluctuations on the
scaling of the linear a.c. conductivity, \sigma(\omega), of a bulk
superconductor slightly above Tc in zero applied magnetic field. The dynamic
renormalization- group method is applied to the relaxational time-dependent
Ginzburg-Landau model of superconductivity, with \sigma(\omega) calculated via
the Kubo formula to O(\epsilon^{2}) in the \epsilon = 4 - d expansion. The
critical dynamics are governed by the relaxational XY-model
renormalization-group fixed point. The scaling hypothesis \sigma(\omega) \sim
\xi^{2-d+z} S(\omega \xi^{z}) proposed by Fisher, Fisher and Huse is explicitly
verified, with the dynamic exponent z \approx 2.015, the value expected for the
d=3 relaxational XY-model. The universal scaling function S(y) is computed and
shown to deviate only slightly from its Gaussian form, calculated earlier. The
present theory is compared with experimental measurements of the a.c.
conductivity of YBCO near Tc, and the implications of this theory for such
experiments is discussed.Comment: 16 pages, submitted to Phys. Rev.
Anomalous WW-Gamma Vertex in Gamma-p Collision
The potential of LC+HERAp based Gamma-p collider to probe WW-Gamma vertex is
presented through the discussion of sensitivity to anomalous couplings and P_T
distribution of the final quark. The limits of -0.04<\Delta\kappa<0.04 and
-0.11<\lambda<0.11 at 95% C.L. can be reached with integrated luminosity
200(1/pb). The limit for \Delta\kappa is comparable to one which is expected
from LHC. The bounds are also obtained from corresponding ep collider using
Weizsacker-Williams Approximation to compare with real photons.Comment: 8 pages, 2 eps figure
Assessing the role of multiple mechanisms increasing the age of dengue cases in Thailand
The mean age of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) cases increased considerably in Thailand from 8.1 to 24.3 y between 1981 and 2017 (mean annual increase of 0.45 y). Alternative proposed explanations for this trend, such as changes in surveillance practices, reduced mosquitoâhuman contact, and shifts in population demographics, have different implications for global dengue epidemiology. To evaluate the contribution of each of these hypothesized mechanisms to the observed data, we developed 20 nested epidemiological models of dengue virus infection, allowing for variation over time in population demographics, infection hazards, and reporting rates. We also quantified the effect of removing or retaining each source of variation in simulations of the age trajectory. Shifts in the age structure of susceptibility explained 58% of the observed change in age. Adding heterogeneous reporting by age and reductions in per-serotype infection hazard to models with shifts in susceptibility explained an additional 42%. Reductions in infection hazards were mostly driven by changes in the number of infectious individuals at any time (another consequence of shifting age demographics) rather than changes in the transmissibility of individual infections. We conclude that the demographic transition drives the overwhelming majority of the observed change as it changes both the age structure of susceptibility and the number of infectious individuals. With the projected Thai population age structure, our results suggest a continuing increase in age of DHF cases, shifting the burden toward individuals with more comorbidity. These insights into dengue epidemiology may be relevant to many regions of the globe currently undergoing comparable changes in population demographics
Low-energy excitations in the three-dimensional random-field Ising model
The random-field Ising model (RFIM), one of the basic models for quenched
disorder, can be studied numerically with the help of efficient ground-state
algorithms. In this study, we extend these algorithm by various methods in
order to analyze low-energy excitations for the three-dimensional RFIM with
Gaussian distributed disorder that appear in the form of clusters of connected
spins. We analyze several properties of these clusters. Our results support the
validity of the droplet-model description for the RFIM.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figure
The three-dimensional random field Ising magnet: interfaces, scaling, and the nature of states
The nature of the zero temperature ordering transition in the 3D Gaussian
random field Ising magnet is studied numerically, aided by scaling analyses. In
the ferromagnetic phase the scaling of the roughness of the domain walls,
, is consistent with the theoretical prediction .
As the randomness is increased through the transition, the probability
distribution of the interfacial tension of domain walls scales as for a single
second order transition. At the critical point, the fractal dimensions of
domain walls and the fractal dimension of the outer surface of spin clusters
are investigated: there are at least two distinct physically important fractal
dimensions. These dimensions are argued to be related to combinations of the
energy scaling exponent, , which determines the violation of
hyperscaling, the correlation length exponent , and the magnetization
exponent . The value is derived from the
magnetization: this estimate is supported by the study of the spin cluster size
distribution at criticality. The variation of configurations in the interior of
a sample with boundary conditions is consistent with the hypothesis that there
is a single transition separating the disordered phase with one ground state
from the ordered phase with two ground states. The array of results are shown
to be consistent with a scaling picture and a geometric description of the
influence of boundary conditions on the spins. The details of the algorithm
used and its implementation are also described.Comment: 32 pp., 2 columns, 32 figure
