Optimal unstirred state of a passive scalar
Given a passive tracer distribution, what is the simplest unstirred pattern that may be reached under incompressible advection? This question is partially motivated by recent studies of three-dimensional (3-D) magnetic reconnection, in which the patterns of a topological invariant called the field line helicity greatly simplify until reaching a relaxed state. We test two approaches: a variational method with minimal constraints, and a magnetic relaxation scheme where the velocity is determined explicitly by the pattern of. Both methods achieve similar convergence for simple test cases. However, the magnetic relaxation method guarantees a monotonic decrease in the Dirichlet seminorm of, and is numerically more robust. We therefore apply the latter method to two complex mixed patterns modelled on the field line helicity of 3-D magnetic braids. The unstirring separates into a small number of large-scale regions determined by the initial topology, which is well preserved during the computation. Interestingly, the velocity field is found to have the same large-scale topology as. Similarity to the simplification found empirically in 3-D magnetic reconnection simulations supports the idea that advection is an important principle for field line helicity evolution.</p
Structure and properties of a novel fulleride Sm6C60
A novel fulleride Sm6C60 has been synthesized using high temperature solid
state reaction. The Rietveld refinement on high resolution synchrotron X-ray
powder diffraction data shows that Sm6C60 is isostructural with body-centered
cubic A6C60 (A=K, Ba). Raman spectrum of Sm6C60 is similar to that of Ba6C60,
and the frequencies of two Ag modes in Sm6C60 are nearly the same as that of
Ba6C60, suggesting that Sm is divalent and hybridization between C60 molecules
and the Sm atom could exist in Sm6C60. Resistivity measurement shows a weak
T-linear behavior above 180 K, the transport at low temperature is mainly

Small steps towards Grand Unification and the electron/positron excesses in cosmic-ray experiments
We consider a small extension of the standard model by adding two Majorana
fermions; those are adjoint representations of the SU(2)_L and SU(3)_c gauge
groups of the standard model. In this extension, the gauge coupling unification
at an energy scale higher than 10^{15} GeV is realized when the masses of the
triplet and the octet fermions are smaller than 10^4 GeV and 10^{12} GeV,
respectively. We also show that an appropriate symmetry ensures a long lifetime
of the neutral component of the triplet fermion whose thermal relic density
naturally explains the observed dark matter density. The electron/positron
excesses observed in recent cosmic-ray experiments can be also explained by the

JAK2V617F promotes replication fork stalling with disease-restricted impairment of the intra-S checkpoint response
Cancers result from the accumulation of genetic lesions, but the cellular consequences of driver mutations remain unclear, especially during the earliest stages of malignancy. The V617F mutation in the JAK2 non-receptor tyrosine kinase (JAK2V617F) is present as an early somatic event in most patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs), and the study of these chronic myeloid malignancies provides an experimentally tractable approach to understanding early tumorigenesis. Introduction of exogenous JAK2V617F impairs replication fork progression and is associated with activation of the intra-S checkpoint, with both effects mediated by phosphatidylinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) signaling. Analysis of clonally derived JAK2V617F-positive erythroblasts from MPN patients also demonstrated impaired replication fork progression accompanied by increased levels of replication protein A (RPA)-containing foci. However, the associated intra-S checkpoint response was impaired in erythroblasts from polycythemia vera (PV) patients, but not in those from essential thrombocythemia (ET) patients. Moreover, inhibition of p53 in PV erythroblasts resulted in more gamma-H2Ax (γ-H2Ax)–marked double-stranded breaks compared with in like-treated ET erythroblasts, suggesting the defective intra-S checkpoint function seen in PV increases DNA damage in the context of attenuated p53 signaling. These results demonstrate oncogene-induced impairment of replication fork progression in primary cells from MPN patients, reveal unexpected disease-restricted differences in activation of the intra-S checkpoint, and have potential implications for the clonal evolution of malignancies

We consider the problem of converting offline estimators into an online
predictor or estimator with small extra regret. Formally this is the problem of
merging a collection of probability measures over strings of length 1,2,3,...
into a single probability measure over infinite sequences. We describe various
approaches and their pros and cons on various examples. As a side-result we
give an elementary non-heuristic purely combinatoric derivation of Turing's
famous estimator. Our main technical contribution is to determine the

Health Utilities Associated with Hemoglobin Levels and Blood Loss in Postmenopausal Women: The Women's Health Initiative
AbstractObjectivesThe purpose of our study was to use health-related quality of life data from the Women's Health Initiative to calculate health-related utility weights and examine differences in these health utility weights across different hemoglobin (Hgb) levels. These utility weights could then be used in future cost-effectiveness studies.MethodsHealth utility weights were measured by the Short Form-6D (SF-6D), a health utility index derived from the Short Form Medical Outcomes questionnaire. Adjusted least square means were calculated for each level of Hgb at baseline and in longitudinal regression analysis the relationship between change in Hgb and change in the SF-6D was examined. Both baseline and longitudinal analyses were performed for all postmenopausal women and separately for those with self-reported heart failure, cancer, and osteoarthritis.ResultsWomen with Hgb in the anemic range had lower health utility weights than those with higher Hgb levels. Longitudinally, a loss of of 2 g/dl Hgb or more was associated with a statistically significant and clinically meaningfully decline in SF-6D in all participants and also in the group of participants with cancer and osteoarthritis, but not in those with heart failure.ConclusionsLower levels of Hgb and a loss of Hgb are associated with a statistically significant and clinically meaningful decrement in health utility in all postmenopausal women we studied and also in those with chronic conditions

La inclusión de la perspectiva de género en la actividad jurisdiccional es una demanda sostenida de los colectivos feministas y de mujeres, dado que las sentencias tienen un poder performativo y envían un mensaje a la sociedad: “[…] tienen un poder individual y colectivo que impactan en la vida de las personas y conforman la identidad del poder judicial como un actor imprescindible en la construcción de un Estado democrático de derecho” (Suprema Corte de Justicia de la Nación, 2013:7). La incorporación de la perspectiva de género viene a garantizar la igualdad de posiciones (Kessler, 2014) entre mujeres y varones como una meta, trascendiendo la mera igualdad de oportunidades que hasta el presente se ha demostrado insuficiente para que las mujeres consigamos una ciudadanía plena. Al momento de incorporar la perspectiva de género en las sentencias, quienes juzgan deben tener presente en primer lugar, el impacto diferenciado de las normas en base al sexo de las personas. En segundo lugar, la interpretación y aplicación de las leyes en relación con (y en base a) estereotipos de género. Si, por ejemplo, quienes imparten justicia no tienen presentes los estereotipos de género vigentes detrás de las violaciones a los derechos humanos de las mujeres, si no los detectan ni cuestionan, entonces los reproducen. Tal como sostiene Scott (1996) el género es una categoría imprescindible para el análisis social. En tercer lugar, al momento del juzgamiento, se deben tener en cuenta las exclusiones legitimadas por la ley por pensar el mundo en términos binarios y androcéntricos; en cuarto lugar, la distribución no equitativa de recursos y poder que opera entre varones y mujeres en el marco de una organización social patriarcal, y, por último, el trato diferenciado por género legitimado por las propias leyes.Eje 3: Tramas violentas y espacios de exclusión.Instituto de Cultura Jurídic
The multifrequency Siberian Radioheliograph
The 10-antenna prototype of the multifrequency Siberian radioheliograph is
described. The prototype consists of four parts: antennas with broadband
front-ends, analog back-ends, digital receivers and a correlator. The prototype
antennas are mounted on the outermost stations of the Siberian Solar Radio
Telescope (SSRT) array. A signal from each antenna is transmitted to a workroom
by an analog fiber optical link, laid in an underground tunnel. After mixing,
all signals are digitized and processed by digital receivers before the data
are transmitted to the correlator. The digital receivers and the correlator are
accessible by the LAN. The frequency range of the prototype is from 4 to 8 GHz.
Currently the frequency switching observing mode is used. The prototype data
include both circular polarizations at a number of frequencies given by a list.
This prototype is the first stage of the multifrequency Siberian
radioheliograph development. It is assumed that the radioheliograph will
consist of 96 antennas and will occupy stations of the West-East-South subarray
of the SSRT. The radioheliograph will be fully constructed in autumn of 2012.
We plan to reach the brightness temperature sensitivity about 100 K for the
snapshot image, a spatial resolution up to 13 arcseconds at 8 GHz and
polarization measurement accuracy about a few percent.
First results with the 10-antenna prototype are presented of observations of
solar microwave bursts. The prototype abilities to estimate source size and
locations at different frequencies are discussed
