The fate of spinons in spontaneously dimerised spin-1/2 ladders
We study a weakly coupled, frustrated two-leg spin-1/2 Heisenberg ladder. For
vanishing coupling between the chains, elementary excitations are deconfined,
gapless spin-1/2 objects called spinons. We investigate the fate of spinons for
the case of a weak interchain interaction. We show that despite a drastic
change in ground state, which becomes spontaneously dimerised, spinons survive
as elementary excitations but acquire a spectral gap. We furthermore determine
the exact dynamical structure factor for several values of momentum transfer.Comment: 8 pages of revtex, 7 figures; discussion of physical picture for

Wavefunction of a Black Hole and the Dynamical Origin of Entropy
Recently it was proposed to explain the dynamical origin of the entropy of a
black hole by identifying its dynamical degrees of freedom with states of
quantum fields propagating in the black-hole's interior. The present paper
contains the further development of this approach. The no-boundary proposal
(analogous to the Hartle-Hawking no-boundary proposal in quantum cosmology) is
put forward for defining the wave function of a black hole. This wave function
is a functional on the configuration space of physical fields (including the
gravitational one) on the three-dimensional space with the Einstein-Rosen
bridge topology. It is shown that in the limit of small perturbations on the
Kruskal background geometry the no-boundary wave function coincides with the
Hartle-Hawking vacuum state. The invariant definition of inside and outside
modes is proposed. The density matrix describing the internal state of a black
hole is obtained by averaging over the outside modes. This density matrix is
used to define the entropy of a black hole, which is to be divergent. It is
argued that the quantum fluctuations of the horizon which are internally
present in the proposed formalism may give the necessary cut-off and provide a
black hole with the finite entropy.Comment: 39 pages, LaTeX misprint is corrected, original text is not modifie
Effective equations in quantum cosmology
We develop a general framework for effective equations of expectation values
in quantum cosmology and pose for them the quantum Cauchy problem with
no-boundary and tunneling wavefunctions. Cosmological configuration space is
decomposed into two sectors that give qualitatively different contributions to
the radiation currents in effective equations. The field-theoretical sector of
inhomogeneous modes is treated by the method of Euclidean effective action,
while the quantum mechanical sector of the spatially homogeneous inflaton is
handled by the technique of manifest quantum reduction to gauge invariant
cosmological perturbations. We apply this framework in the model with a big
negative non-minimal coupling, which incorporates a recently proposed low
energy (GUT scale) mechanism of the quantum origin of the inflationary Universe
and study the effects of the quantum inflaton mode.Comment: 33 pages, LaTeX2
Quantum origin of the early inflationary Universe
We give a detailed presentation of a recently proposed mechanism of
generating the energy scale of inflation by loop effects in quantum cosmology.
We discuss the quantum origin of the early inflationary Universe from the
no-boundary and tunneling quantum states and present a universal effective
action algorithm for the distribution function of chaotic inflationary
cosmologies in both of these states. The energy scale of inflation is
calculated by finding a sharp probability peak in this distribution function
for a tunneling model driven by the inflaton field with large negative constant
of non-minimal interaction. The sub-Planckian parameters of this peak
(the mean value of the corresponding Hubble constant , its
quantum width and the number of inflationary
e-foldings ) are found to be in good correspondence with the
observational status of inflation theory, provided the coupling constants of
the theory are constrained by a condition which is likely to be enforced by the
(quasi) supersymmetric nature of the sub-Planckian particle physics model.Comment: 43 pages, LaTeX, figures not include
Effective equations of motion and initial conditions for inflation in quantum cosmology
We obtain effective equations of inflationary dynamics for the mean inflaton
and metric fields in the no-boundary and tunneling quantum states of the
Universe. In the slow roll approximation (taking the form of the local
Schwiger-DeWitt expansion) effective equations follow from the Euclidean
effective action on the DeSitter gravitational instanton. Effective equations
are applied in the model of the inflaton scalar field coupled to the GUT sector
of matter fields and also having a strong nonminimal coupling to the curvature.
The inverse of its big negative nonminimal coupling constant, serves as a small
parameter of the slow roll expansion and semiclassical expansion of quantum
gravitational effects. As a source of initial conditions we use a sharp
probability peak recently obtained in the one-loop approximation for the
no-boundary and tunneling quantum states and belonging (in virtue of a strong
nonminimal coupling) to the GUT energy scale much below the Planck scale. The
obtained equations in the tunneling quantum state predict a finite duration of
inflationary stage compatible with the observational status of inflation
theory, whereas for the no-boundary state they lead to the infinite
inflationary epoch with a constant inflaton field.Comment: 23 pages, LaTe
Hydrodynamics of Spatially Ordered Superfluids
We derive the hydrodynamic equations for the supersolid and superhexatic
phases of a neutral two-dimensional Bose fluid. We find, assuming that the
normal part of the fluid is clamped to an underlying substrate, that both
phases can sustain third-sound modes and that in the supersolid phase there are
additional modes due to the superfluid motion of point defects (vacancies and
interstitials).Comment: 24 pages of ReVTeX and 7 uuencoded figures. Submitted for publication

Conformal linear gravity in de Sitter space II
From the group theoretical point of view, it is proved that the theory of
linear conformal gravity should be written in terms of a tensor field of rank-3
and mixed symmetry [Binegar, et al, Phys. Rev. D 27, (1983) 2249]. We obtained
such a field equation in de Sitter space [Takook, et al, J. Math. Phys. 51,
(2010) 032503]. In this paper, a proper solution to this equation is obtained
as a product of a generalized polarization tensor and a massless scalar field
and then the conformally invariant two-point function is calculated. This
two-point function is de Sitter invariant and free of any pathological
large-distance behavior.Comment: 16 pages, no figure, published versio
Observational Constraints on Chaplygin Quartessence: Background Results
We derive the constraints set by several experiments on the quartessence
Chaplygin model (QCM). In this scenario, a single fluid component drives the
Universe from a nonrelativistic matter-dominated phase to an accelerated
expansion phase behaving, first, like dark matter and in a more recent epoch
like dark energy. We consider current data from SNIa experiments, statistics of
gravitational lensing, FR IIb radio galaxies, and x-ray gas mass fraction in
galaxy clusters. We investigate the constraints from this data set on flat
Chaplygin quartessence cosmologies. The observables considered here are
dependent essentially on the background geometry, and not on the specific form
of the QCM fluctuations. We obtain the confidence region on the two parameters
of the model from a combined analysis of all the above tests. We find that the
best-fit occurs close to the CDM limit (). The standard
Chaplygin quartessence () is also allowed by the data, but only at
the level.Comment: Replaced to match the published version, references update
Modeling the actinides with disordered local moments
A first-principles disordered local moment (DLM) picture within the
local-spin-density and coherent potential approximations (LSDA+CPA) of the
actinides is presented. The parameter free theory gives an accurate description
of bond lengths and bulk modulus. The case of -Pu is studied in
particular and the calculated density of states is compared to data from
photo-electron spectroscopy. The relation between the DLM description, the
dynamical mean field approach and spin-polarized magnetically ordered modeling
is discussed.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure
Metody: Było to otwarte wieloośrodkowe badanie IV fazy, z randomizacją, prowadzone
w układzie równoległym z grupą kontrolną, do którego zakwalifikowano 424 pacjentów
(w wieku ≥ 18 lat) hospitalizowanych z powodu ostrego epizodu wieńcowego. Pacjenci przyjmowali
W momencie
zakoñczenia badania wartości najmniejszych kwadratów stężenie LDL-C wyniosły odpowiednio
1,74 mmol/l w grupie Eze/Simva i 2,22 mmol/l w grupie leczonej statyną; różnica pomiędzy grupami osiągnęła wartość znamienną statystycznie, rzędu -0,49 mmol/l (p ≤ 0,001).
Przyjmowanie skojarzonego preparatu Eze/Simva powodowało także znamienne zmniejszenie
stężenia cholesterolu całkowitego (–0,49 mmol/l), cholesterolu frakcji lipoprotein innych ni¿ te
o dużej gęstości [(nie-HDL); –0,53 mmol/l] oraz apolipoproteiny B (–0,14 mmol/l) w porównaniu
z przyjmowaniem podwójnej dawki statyny (p £ 0,001 dla wszystkich porównywanych
wartoœci). Oba protokoły leczenia miały zbliżony wpływ na stężenia triglicerydów, białka
C-reaktywnego i cholesterolu frakcji lipoprotein o dużej gęstości (HDL, high-density protein);
porównania pomiędzy grupami przyniosły wartości nieznamienne (p ≥ 0,160). U istotnie
większej liczby pacjentów przyjmujących Eze/Simva stężenie cholesterolu frakcji LDL spadło
do poniżej 2,5 mmol/l (< 100 mg/dl; 86% pacjentów leczonych Eze/Simva vs. 72% osób
zwyżki aktywności aminotransferaz wątrobowych do wartości równej przynajmniej
3-krotności górnej granicy przedziału wartoœci prawidłowych (ULN) ani zwyżki aktywności
kinazy kreatynowej do wartości równej przynajmniej 10-krotności ULN.
Wnioski: W populacji pacjentów leczonych wcześniej statyną, których hospitalizowano w celu
diagnostyki incydentu wieñcowego, leczenie skojarzonym preparatem Eze/Simva w dawce
10/40 mg przez 12 tygodni powoduje większą normalizację lipemii niż podwojenie dawki
przyjmowanej wczeœniej statyny, z zachowaniem zbliżonego profilu bezpieczeństwa
