    Clinical and radiographic alterations in bilateral avascular necrosis of the femoral head following laser acupuncture: A case report

    Introduction: Avascular necrosis (AVN) of the femoral head is an increasingly common cause of musculoskeletal disability with unknown etiology. Traumatic and non-traumatic factors can be effective in its occurrence. About 50 of cases are bilateral. The underlying treatment is prosthetic replacement surgical procedure. Case Presentation: We report a case of bilateral AVN of femoral heads who was a candidate for prosthetic replacement surgery but improved significantly, using laser acupuncture. The patient was a 55-year-old woman with a diagnosis of bilateral osteonecrosis of the femoral head for five years. As the patient declined the surgical option, laser acupuncture was started for pain control. Regarding the signs of bilateral femoral head recovery (according to the MRI scan criteria), a total of 3 courses of laser acupuncture (each course was 20 sessions) with 2 months intervals was performed. Ten acupuncture points: Li4, Li11, St36, SP6, LIV3, GB4, GB5, GB6, GB13, GB14, GB20, GB30, GB31, GB34, were irradiated bilaterally using red 650 nm laser, 100 mW, 1505 Hz frequency, duty cycle 50 3 J/point and near infrared 810 nm laser, 100 mW, 1705 Hz frequency, duty cycle 50 3 J/point, for 2 minutes. The patient received 3 laser therapy courses. During the first-course, laser therapy was done every other day to reduce pain. For the second and third courses, according to pain decrease, therapy was done every week. Results: The results of the MRI scans and x-ray studies show progressive regeneration of the right femoral head from VI to B II and of the left from V to C II (based on the standard table of Pennsylvania). Conclusion: It seems that this procedure may be mentioned in future research projects, especially in cases with high risks of surgery. © 2018, Laser Application in Medical Sciences Research Center

    Introduction: The association between psychological well-being and physical and mental health has been shown in the literature. Psychological well-being is a multifaceted concept. The World Health Organization-5 Well-Being Index (WHO-5) is a 5-item instrument used to screen for depression. However, the validity of the WHO-5 has not been investigated in Iranian psychiatric or psychological settings. Objective: To investigate the validation of the Farsi version of the WHO-5 in a sample of Iranian psychiatric outpatients. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with a convenience sample of 116 Iranian volunteer psychiatric outpatients selected from the psychiatric and psychological clinics at the School of Behavioral Sciences and Mental Health � Tehran Institute of Psychiatry, Iran University of Medical Sciences. Patients completed the WHO-5, the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), the Patient Health Questionnaire-15 (PHQ-15), and the short form of the Beck Depression Inventory-13 (BDI-13). Results: The mean score of the WHO-5 was 8.95 (standard deviation SD = 5.49). Cronbach�s α for the WHO-5 was 0.91. The WHO-5 negatively correlated with PHQ-9 (-0.358), PHQ-15 (-0.328), and BDI-13 (-0.475), indicating good validity. Factor analysis of the WHO-5 items identified one factor labeled psychological well-being. Conclusions: The WHO-5 has a single dimensional structure and acceptable psychometric parameters. The results of this study suggest that WHO-5 can be used in a clinical context in Iran. © 2018, Sociedade de Psiquiatria do Rio Grande do Sul. All rights reserved

    Reconstruction of some cosmological models in f(R,T) gravity

    In this paper, we reconstruct cosmological models in the framework of f(R,T)f(R,T) gravity, where RR is the Ricci scalar and TT is the trace of the stress-energy tensor. We show that the dust fluid reproduces Λ\Lambda CDM, phantom-non-phantom era and the phantom cosmology. Further, we reconstruct different cosmological models including, Chaplygin gas, scalar field with some specific forms of f(R,T)f(R,T). Our numerical simulation for Hubble parameter shows good agreement with the BAO observational data for low redshifts z<2z<2.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figure

    Some exact solutions of F(R) gravity with charged (a)dS black hole interpretation

    In this paper we obtain topological static solutions of some kind of pure F(R)F(R) gravity. The present solutions are two kind: first type is uncharged solution which corresponds with the topological (a)dS Schwarzschild solution and second type has electric charge and is equivalent to the Einstein-Λ\Lambda-conformally invariant Maxwell solution. In other word, starting from pure gravity leads to (charged) Einstein-Λ\Lambda solutions which we interpreted them as (charged) (a)dS black hole solutions of pure F(R)F(R) gravity. Calculating the Ricci and Kreschmann scalars show that there is a curvature singularity at r=0r=0. We should note that the Kreschmann scalar of charged solutions goes to infinity as r0r \rightarrow 0, but with a rate slower than that of uncharged solutions.Comment: 21 pages, 4 figures, generalization to higher dimensions, references adde

    Black hole solutions in F(R) gravity with conformal anomaly

    In this paper, we consider F(R)=R+f(R)F(R)=R+f(R) theory instead of Einstein gravity with conformal anomaly and look for its analytical solutions. Depending on the free parameters, one may obtain both uncharged and charged solutions for some classes of F(R)F(R) models. Calculation of Kretschmann scalar shows that there is a singularity located at r=0r=0, which the geometry of uncharged (charged) solution is corresponding to the Schwarzschild (Reissner-Nordstr\"om) singularity. Further, we discuss the viability of our models in details. We show that these models can be stable depending on their parameters and in different epoches of the universe.Comment: 12 pages, one figur

    Non-vacuum Solutions of Bianchi Type VI_0 Universe in f(R) Gravity

    In this paper, we solve the field equations in metric f(R) gravity for Bianchi type VI_0 spacetime and discuss evolution of the expanding universe. We find two types of non-vacuum solutions by taking isotropic and anisotropic fluids as the source of matter and dark energy. The physical behavior of these solutions is analyzed and compared in the future evolution with the help of some physical and geometrical parameters. It is concluded that in the presence of isotropic fluid, the model has singularity at t~=0\tilde{t}=0 and represents continuously expanding shearing universe currently entering into phantom phase. In anisotropic fluid, the model has no initial singularity and exhibits the uniform accelerating expansion.     Background: Happiness is considered an index of the development of human society and well-being in the world. Aims: The aim of this study was to measure the level of happiness in a middle sized Iranian city (Kerman) using 2 instru-ments and the predictor factors. Methods: In a cross-sectional study, 1000 adults were questioned using multi-stage cluster sampling in 2016. The LoH was assessed using the Oxford Happiness Inventory (OHI) and a self-report questionnaire. The level of physical activity and the religion index were assessed using standard questionnaires. Results: The results of 2 questionnaires had a statistically significant correlation with measuring level of happiness (Pearson correlation coefficient 0.69; P-value < 0.001). Around 90 of participants stated that they had moderate to high LoH, but the mean happiness score based on the OHI was 43.2 (43.7 in men, 42.7 in women). Illiteracy, unemployment, divorce, living in deprived areas, high level of stress, weak religious beliefs and practice, lower income, and poor health significantly decreased the LoH score. Conclusion: Level of happiness is relatively low in Kerman. There are effective evidence-based interventions that might promote the LoH of the population, including promoting the level of community health, educating for stress management and improving access to urban facilities in deprived areas. © World Health Organization (WHO) 2020
