On geodesics of the rotation group SO(3)
Geodesics on SO(3) are characterized by constant angular velocity motions and as great circles on a three-sphere. The former interpretation is widely used in optometry and the latter features in the interpolation of rotations in computer graphics. The simplicity of these two disparate interpretations belies the complexity of the corresponding rotations. Using a quaternion representation for a rotation, we present a simple proof of the equivalence of the aforementioned characterizations and a straightforward method to establish features of the corresponding rotations

On the dynamics of the eye: geodesics on a configuration manifold, motions of the gaze direction and Helmholtz’s theorem
The simplest model with which to examine the dynamics of the human eye consists of a rigid body which is free to rotate about a fixed point. Two classical laws governing monocular vision, which are known as Listing’s law and Donders’ law, can be enforced in this model using a single holonomic constraint. While there has been considerable attention paid to the kinematics of the eye, the dynamics of the eye predicted by rigid body models has not received the same level of attention. In the present paper, the unforced dynamics of the resulting rigid body model are examined with particular emphasis placed on the geodesics of the configuration manifold. A comprehensive portrait of these motions is presented, and the insight gained is related to the dynamics of the gaze direction and saccadic motions of the eye. Among our results, we find that modeling the eye as an asymmetric rigid body produces a non-integrable system of governing equations and that the geodesics on the configuration manifold provide a wealth of potential motions for the gaze direction

An Analysis of the Oral Communication Barriers in Face-to-face Communications Towards the Development of an Intervention Program in Speaking
This study aimed to unravel the speaking barriers experienced by the criminology students in face-to-face oral communications, the effects of these barriers in their speaking performance and the strategies they use to cope with these speaking barriers. Results from these queries served as bases in developing a remedial intervention program that aims to improve students' English-speaking skills and overcome their communication barriers most specially in face-face-to settings. To achieve these aims, this study used qualitative descriptive design with semi-structured interview as data gathering tool. Nine criminology students were interviewed. Results showed that the oral communication barriers experienced by these 9 criminology students in face-to-face communications with English as medium include lack of knowledge of the English language such as vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation; limited content knowledge/topical knowledge; and psychological related constraints. Meanwhile, results showed that the oral communication barriers experienced by the criminology students result to misinterpretation of the meaning they want to convey and mental blackouts. Findings also showed that the participants employ strategies in coping with the oral communication barriers and in avoiding being misinterpreted and mental blackouts, these include watching English movies, reading, practicing oneself to speak in English alone, googling, and interacting with others
