    Precise measurements of electron and hole g-factors of single quantum dots by using nuclear field

    We demonstrated the cancellation of the external magnetic field by the nuclear field at one edge of the nuclear polarization bistability in single InAlAs quantum dots. The cancellation for the electron Zeeman splitting gives the precise value of the hole g-factor. By combining with the exciton g-factor that is obtained from the Zeeman splitting for linearly polarized excitation, the magnitude and sign of the electron and hole g-factors in the growth direction are evaluated.Comment: 3 pages, 2 figure

    Duality with expanding maps and shrinking maps, and its applications to Gauss maps

    We study expanding maps and shrinking maps of subvarieties of Grassmann varieties in arbitrary characteristic. The shrinking map was studied independently by Landsberg and Piontkowski in order to characterize Gauss images. To develop their method, we introduce the expanding map, which is a dual notion of the shrinking map and is a generalization of the Gauss map. Then we give a characterization of separable Gauss maps and their images, which yields results for the following topics: (1) Linearity of general fibers of separable Gauss maps; (2) Generalization of the characterization of Gauss images; (3) Duality on one-dimensional parameter spaces of linear subvarieties lying in developable varieties.Comment: 28 pages, v3: added some examples, v2: the title has been changed from v1 "Linearity of general fibers of separable Gauss maps

    30S Beam Development and X-ray Bursts

    Over the past three years, we have worked on developing a well-characterized 30S radioactive beam to be used in a future experiment aiming to directly measure the 30S(alpha,p) stellar reaction rate within the Gamow window of Type I X-ray bursts. The importance of the 30S(alpha,p) reaction to X-ray bursts is discussed. Given the astrophysical motivation, the successful results of and challenges involved in the production of a low-energy 30S beam are detailed.     Effect of Minimally Invasive Endotracheal Tube Suctioning on Suction-Related Pain, Airway Clearance and Airway Trauma in intubated Patients: A Randomized Controlled Trial

    Background: Due to the frequency and risks associated with endotracheal suctioning, there is a need to examine clinical practice critically and identify clinical research to guide practice. Correct technique and preparation by the clinicians can assist to reduce the risks of adverse events and the level of discomfort for the patients. Objectives: The current study aimed to investigate the effects of routine versus the minimally invasive endotracheal tube suctioning procedure on suction-related pain, airway clearance and airway trauma in patients who were intubated. Methods: In this randomized clinical trial, 64 patients with intubation in the intensive care units (ICUs) of Alzahra Hospital, Isfahan, Iran, were randomly allocated to minimally invasive endotracheal tube suctioning (MIETS) and routine endotracheal tube suctioning (RETS) groups. Pain intensity was assessed immediately before, immediately after and 10 minutes after endotracheal tube suctioning (ETS). Airway clearance was defined by numbers of suctioning and airway trauma noted after suctioning. The Chisquare test, independent T-test, and repeated measures analysis of variance were performed to analyze the data. Results: There wasnosignificant difference in thenumberof suctions needed to effectively clear airway between the two groups. No significant differences were observed in the pain score changes during the three -time measurements in the MIETS group. However, in the RETS group the increase of pain scores were statistically significant during the three- time measurements. In addition, the numberof airway traumatizationwassignificantly higher in the RETS group. Thenumberof medications used as a pain relief during 10 minutes after the ETS was significantly higher in the RETS group. Conclusions: The results of the study suggest that using MIETS instead of RETS caused a lower incidence of airway traumatization and lower suction-related pain intensity. In addition, MIETS was sufficiently effective, the same as RETS, to remove airway secretions. Hence, MIETS may be useful to reduce the complications of ETS as long as being effective to remove airway secretions

    Decay Properties of 266^{266}Bh and 262^{262}Db Produced in the 248^{248}Cm + 23^{23}Na Reaction

    Decay properties of an isotope 266^{266}Bh and its daughter nucleus 262^{262}Db produced by the 248^{248}Cm(23^{23}Na, 5\textit{n}) reaction were studied by using a gas-filled recoil separator coupled with a position-sensitive semiconductor detector. 266^{266}Bh was clearly identified from the correlation of the known nuclide, 262^{262}Db. The obtained decay properties of 266^{266}Bh and 262^{262}Db are consistent with those observed in the 278^{278}113 chain, which provided further confirmation of the discovery of 278^{278}113.Comment: Accepted for publication in J.     Modification of Tillage Implements for Alley Cropping System

    Sustainable alley agriculture in the agro-forestry cropping system becomes a great challenge due to the lack of suitable land preparation, using the conventional tillage system “The three-bottom disc plough”. This research is an attempt to modify the conventional tillage implement for better use in agroforestry system. The modified Tillage System, in comparison with 3-bottom disc plough, showed significantly lower tractor actual speed, higher wheel slippage, effective field capacity and higher draught requirements. For the secondary operations, no significant differences were detected between modified tandem and the offset disc harrow, except for the tractor actual speed, where the offset disc harrow resulted in significant higher speed. Moreover, the modified tillage implements shows lower un-ploughed length area within the alley, and two meters increase in the preparation of the available cultivated area compared to the conventional system, and significantly lower bulk density at crop emergence stage only. The modified implements resulted in higher initial and final infiltration rate after seedbed preparation and at harvest in comparison with the conventional system. With regards to crop yield, the modified tillage system resulted in significant higher grain yield in the first and second seasons, in comparison with the use of the conventional tillage system.     Structure of Polyelectrolytes in Poor Solvent

    We present simulations on charged polymers in poor solvent. First we investigate in detail the dilute concentration range with and without imposed extension constraints. The resulting necklace polymer conformations are analyzed in detail. We find strong fluctuations in the number of pearls and their sizes leading only to small signatures in the form factor and the force-extension relation. The scaling of the peak in the structure factor with the monomer density shows a pertinent different behavior from good solvent chains.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures. submitted to EP

    Atomic masses of intermediate-mass neutron-deficient nuclei with relative uncertainty down to 35-ppb via multireflection time-of-flight mass spectrograph

    High-precision mass measurements of 63^{63}Cu, 6466^{64-66}Zn, 65^{65}Ga, 6567^{65-67}Ge, 67^{67}As, 78,81^{78,81}Br, 80^{80}Rb, and 79^{79}Sr were performed utilizing a multireflection time-of-flight mass spectrograph combined with the gas-filled recoil ion separator GARIS-II. In the case of 65^{65}Ga, a mass uncertainty of 2.1 keV, corresponding to a relative precision of δm/m=3.5×108\delta m / m = 3.5\times10^{-8}, was obtained and the mass value is in excellent agreement with the 2016 Atomic Mass Evaluation. For 67^{67}Ge and 81^{81}Br, where masses were previously deduced through indirect measurements, discrepancies with literature values were found. The feasibility of using this device for mass measurements of nuclides more neutron-deficient side, which have significant impact on the rprp-process pathway, is discussed.Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures, 1 tabl
