Origin of the peculiar eccentricity distribution of the inner cold Kuiper belt
Dawson and Murray-Clay (2012) pointed out that the inner part of the cold
population in the Kuiper belt (that with semi major axis a<43.5 AU) has orbital
eccentricities significantly smaller than the limit imposed by stability
constraints. Here, we confirm their result by looking at the orbital
distribution and stability properties in proper element space. We show that the
observed distribution could have been produced by the slow sweeping of the 4/7
mean motion resonance with Neptune that accompanied the end of Neptune's
migration process. The orbital distribution of the hot Kuiper belt is not
significantly affected in this process, for the reasons discussed in the main
text. Therefore, the peculiar eccentricity distribution of the inner cold
population can not be unequivocally interpreted as evidence that the cold
population formed in-situ and was only moderately excited in eccentricity; it
can simply be the signature of Neptune's radial motion, starting from a
moderately eccentric orbit. We discuss how this agrees with a scenario of giant
planet evolution following a dynamical instability and, possibly, with the
radial transport of the cold population.Comment: in press in Icaru
Drug enrichment and discovery from schizophrenia genome-wide association results:an analysis and visualisation approach
Using successful genome-wide association results in psychiatry for drug repurposing is an ongoing challenge. Databases collecting drug targets and gene annotations are growing and can be harnessed to shed a new light on psychiatric disorders. We used genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary statistics from the Psychiatric Genetics Consortium (PGC) Schizophrenia working group to build a drug repositioning model for schizophrenia. As sample size increases, schizophrenia GWAS results show increasing enrichment for known antipsychotic drugs, selective calcium channel blockers, and antiepileptics. Each of these therapeutical classes targets different gene subnetworks. We identify 123 Bonferroni-significant druggable genes outside the MHC, and 128 FDR-significant biological pathways related to neurons, synapses, genic intolerance, membrane transport, epilepsy, and mental disorders. These results suggest that, in schizophrenia, current well-powered GWAS results can reliably detect known schizophrenia drugs and thus may hold considerable potential for the identification of new therapeutic leads. Moreover, antiepileptics and calcium channel blockers may provide repurposing opportunities. This study also reveals significant pathways in schizophrenia that were not identified previously, and provides a workflow for pathway analysis and drug repurposing using GWAS results
The first 40 million years of circumstellar disk evolution: the signature of terrestrial planet formation
We characterize the first 40 Myr of evolution of circumstellar disks through
a unified study of the infrared properties of members of young clusters and
associations with ages from 2 Myr up to ~ 40 Myr: NGC 1333, NGC 1960, NGC 2232,
NGC 2244, NGC 2362, NGC 2547, IC 348, IC 2395, IC 4665, Chamaeleon I, Orion
OB1a and OB1b, Taurus, the \b{eta} Pictoris Moving Group, \r{ho} Ophiuchi, and
the associations of Argus, Carina, Columba, Scorpius-Centaurus, and
Tucana-Horologium. Our work features: 1.) a filtering technique to flag noisy
backgrounds, 2.) a method based on the probability distribution of deflections,
P(D), to obtain statistically valid photometry for faint sources, and 3.) use
of the evolutionary trend of transitional disks to constrain the overall
behavior of bright disks. We find that the fraction of disks three or more
times brighter than the stellar photospheres at 24 {\mu}m decays relatively
slowly initially and then much more rapidly by ~ 10 Myr. However, there is a
continuing component until ~ 35 Myr, probably due primarily to massive clouds
of debris generated in giant impacts during the oligarchic/chaotic growth
phases of terrestrial planets. If the contribution from primordial disks is
excluded, the evolution of the incidence of these oligarchic/chaotic debris
disks can be described empirically by a log-normal function with the peak at 12
- 20 Myr, including ~ 13 % of the original population, and with a post-peak

The Dynamic Transition of Protein Hydration Water
Thin layers of water on biomolecular and other nanostructured surfaces can be
supercooled to temperatures not accessible with bulk water. Chen et al. [PNAS
103, 9012 (2006)] suggested that anomalies near 220 K observed by quasi-elastic
neutron scattering can be explained by a hidden critical point of bulk water.
Based on more sensitive measurements of water on perdeuterated phycocyanin,
using the new neutron backscattering spectrometer SPHERES, and an improved data
analysis, we present results that show no sign of such a fragile-to-strong
transition. The inflection of the elastic intensity at 220 K has a dynamic
origin that is compatible with a calorimetric glass transition at 170 K. The
temperature dependence of the relaxation times is highly sensitive to data
evaluation; it can be brought into perfect agreement with the results of other

Multiple Myeloma and AL Amyloidosis
O mieloma múltiplo e a amiloidose de cadeias leves (AL) de imunoglobulina são doenças proliferativas plasmocitárias incuráveis que raramente coexistem. Cerca de 10 a 15% dos doentes com mieloma múltiplo desenvolvem amiloidose AL clinicamente sintomática, sendo a situação inversa muito rara (0,4%). Apresenta-se um caso não previamente diagnosticado de mieloma múltiplo não secretor, isto é, sem identificação de paraproteína na imunoelectroforese ou imunofixação sérica ou urinária, numa doente internada por icterícia pruriginosa e volumosa hepatomegália. A biópsia hepática confirmou o diagnóstico de amiloidose e o doseamento sérico das cadeias leves livres das imunoglobulinas revelou hiperprodução de cadeias leves kappa (k). Os autores abordam as particularidades clínicas e de investigação destas duas entidades em que o diagnóstico precoce e a terapêutica atempada influenciam o prognóstico
The HR 4796A Debris System: Discovery of Extensive Exo-Ring Dust Material
The optically and IR bright, and starlight-scattering, HR 4796A ring-like
debris disk is one of the most (and best) studied exoplanetary debris systems.
The presence of a yet-undetected planet has been inferred (or suggested) from
the narrow width and inner/outer truncation radii of its r = 1.05" (77 au)
debris ring. We present new, highly sensitive, Hubble Space Telescope (HST)
visible-light images of the HR 4796A circumstellar debris system and its
environment over a very wide range of stellocentric angles from 0.32" (23 au)
to ~ 15" (1100 au). These very high contrast images were obtained with the
Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) using 6-roll PSF-template
subtracted coronagraphy suppressing the primary light of HR 4796A and using
three image plane occulters and simultaneously subtracting the background light
from its close angular proximity M2.5V companion. The resulting images
unambiguously reveal the debris ring embedded within a much larger,
morphologically complex, and bi-axially asymmetric exoring scattering
structure. These images at visible wavelengths are sensitive to, and map, the
spatial distribution, brightness, and radial surface density of micron size
particles over 5 dex in surface brightness. These particles in the exo-ring
environment may be unbound from the system and interacting with the local ISM.
Herein we present a new morphological and photometric view of the larger than
prior seen HR 4796A exoplanetary debris system with sensitivity to small
particles at stellocentric distances an order of magnitude greater than has

Information to the eye of the beholder: data visualization for many-objective optimization
The visualization gap is one of the important challenges posed by many-objective optimization problems (MaOPs). In this paper, we present an integrated data visualization method for MaOPs, called CAP-vis plot, combining the Chord diagram, the Angular mapping and the Parallel coordinates in the same visualization. The method follows the circular design layout, showing different levels of information. This new approach allows the spatial location of points in high dimensional spaces, the visualization of harmony and conflict between objectives, as well as the comparison of the approximation sets provided by different algorithms. With this work, we try to fill the visualization gap and bring information to the eye of the decision-maker and the optimizer, with an intuitive overview of the obtained results. Some experiments were performed using the Benchmark Functions proposed for the IEEE-CEC 2018 Competition on Many-Objective Optimization. We used the tool to visualize the results obtained by NSGA-III, HypE, RVEA, MOEA/DD, PICEA-g, using the PlatEMO MATLAB platform, with the same parameter settings of the competition. The results on the Benchmark Problems show the importance of the qualitative analysis of the data. The experiments show how visualization can help interpretation of the results and identification of strengths and drawbacks of MOEA.The authors would like to thank the Brazilian agencies CAPES, CNPq and FAPEMIG for the financial support

O enfisema lobar congénito é umamalformação rara do tracto respiratório inferior detectada habitualmente nos primeiros meses de vida. Apresenta-se o caso de um lactente, do sexo masculino, de dois meses de idade, internado por suspeita de pneumonia, no qual
a segunda radiografia de tórax revelou hipertransparência arredondada no lobo inferior esquerdo, sugestiva de enfisema lobar congénito.
A tomografia computorizada torácica mostrou uma imagem quística,multilobar, e a broncoscopia excluiu obstrução brônquica.
Foi programada cirurgia para os seis meses de idade, mas aos três meses foi submetido a intervenção cirúrgica urgente por pneumotórax
hipertensivo. O exame anatomo-patológico da peça operatória permitiu o diagnóstico de enfisema lobar congénito. Destaca-se
a apresentação multilobar e a complicação por pneumotórax
Protoplanetary and Transitional Disks in the Open Stellar Cluster IC 2395
We present new deep UBVRI images and high-resolution multi-object optical
spectroscopy of the young (~ 6 - 10 Myr old), relatively nearby (800 pc) open
cluster IC 2395. We identify nearly 300 cluster members and use the photometry
to estimate their spectral types, which extend from early B to middle M. We
also present an infrared imaging survey of the central region using the IRAC
and MIPS instruments on board the Spitzer Space Telescope, covering the
wavelength range from 3.6 to 24 microns. Our infrared observations allow us to
detect dust in circumstellar disks originating over a typical range of radii ~
0.1 to ~ 10AU from the central star. We identify 18 Class II, 8 transitional
disk, and 23 debris disk candidates, respectively 6.5%, 2.9%, and 8.3% of the
cluster members with appropriate data. We apply the same criteria for
transitional disk identification to 19 other stellar clusters and associations
spanning ages from ~ 1 to ~ 18 Myr. We find that the number of disks in the
transitional phase as a fraction of the total with strong 24 micron excesses
([8] - [24] > 1.5) increases from 8.4 +\- 1.3% at ~ 3 Myr to 46 +\- 5% at ~ 10
Myr. Alternative definitions of transitional disks will yield different
