The Track-Finding Processor for the Level-1 Trigger of the CMS Endcap Muon System

    Get PDF
We report on the development and test of a prototype track-finding processor for the level-1 trigger of the CMS endcap muon system. The processor links track segments identified in the cathode strip chambers of the endcap muon system into complete three-dimensional tracks, and measures the transverse momentum of the best track candidates from the sagitta induced by the magnetic bending. The algorithms are implemented using SRAM and Xilinx Virtex FPGAs, and the measured latency is 15 clocks. We also report on the design of the pre-production prototype, which achieves further latency and size reduction using state-of-the-art technology. (4 refs)

Assessing the Current State, Problems and Prospects of China’s World Economic Leadership

The aim of the article is to analyze the current state of China’s economy, study its impact on the global market and determine the main prospects for further development of the country through the prism of world leadership. The article substantiates the growing influence of China on the world economic processes; the key factors contributing to the country’s approach to the leading position in the global economy are presented; the dynamics of the main macroeconomic indicators of China, such as GDP, GDP per capita, volumes of high-tech exports, trade balance and investment volumes, are highlighted. The country’s place in the Global Innovation Index is determined and some indicators by which China received the highest marks in 2023 are allocated, in particular, indicators of knowledge and results of scientific research, institutional environment and market experience. The foreign economic activity of China is considered, indicating the leading trading partners of the country and the commodity structure of export-import operations. The initiative «One Belt, One Road», which is aimed at stimulating international cooperation of the country and strengthening its economic ties with other countries and regions, is considered. Within the framework of the initiative, cooperation between Ukraine and China was analyzed, which includes investment projects for infrastructure development, the creation of industrial parks and technological development zones, as well as scientific, technical, military, humanitarian, and cultural cooperation. Further directions of development of the economy of Ukraine, aimed at deepening cooperation between the two countries are proposed, in particular: accelerating economic transformations, improving the investment climate and creating joint projects in the energy and agricultural spheres. It is proved that, despite certain difficulties within the country and problems in the global economy, China remains a key player on the world stage owing to its innovative activities, strong production potential and active role in the international economic initiatives

OOI Biogeochemical Sensor Data: Best Practices and User Guide. Version 1.0.0.

    Get PDF
The OOI Biogeochemical Sensor Data Best Practices and User Guide is intended to provide current and prospective users of data generated by biogeochemical sensors deployed on the Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) arrays with the information and guidance needed for them to ensure that the data is science-ready. This guide is aimed at researchers with an interest or some experience in ocean biogeochemical processes. We expect that users of this guide will have some background in oceanography, however we do not assume any prior experience working with biogeochemical sensors or their data. While initially envisioned as a “cookbook” for end users seeking to work with OOI biogeochemical (BGC) sensor data, our Working Group and Beta Testers realized that the processing required to meet the specific needs of all end users across a wide range of potential scientific applications and combinations of OOI BGC data from different sensors and platforms couldn’t be synthesized into a single “recipe”. We therefore provide here the background information and principles needed for the end user to successfully identify and understand all the available “ingredients” (data), the types of “cooking” (end user processing) that are recommended to prepare them, and a few sample “recipes” (worked examples) to support end users in developing their own “recipes” consistent with the best practices presented here. This is not intended to be an exhaustive guide to each of these sensors, but rather a synthesis of the key information to support OOI BGC sensor data users in preparing science-ready data products. In instances when more in-depth information might be helpful, references and links have been provided both within each chapter and in the Appendix

Epidemiological Characteristics of Enterovirus Infection in the Khabarovsk Territory under Hydrologic Emergency Situation

The paper contains the data on the role of high waters (2013) in changing epidemiological situation on enterovirus infections in the Khabarovsk Territory. The incidence rate in the region was characterized by the significant increase even before the flood, 2013. Thus, two peaks of enterovirus morbidity curve were identified for the period of a week: one - more intensive, another - coincident with flood outbreak. Enterovirus epidemiological process was notified by the changes in clinical picture among the infected population and cohort age-related structure. The percentage of the patients with enterovirus infections in the foci clusters and the index of people infected due to possible exposure to shattering impact of the flood, turned out to be low. However, revealed was high rate of heterogeneity of the circulating enterovirus strains, non-specific for the Khabarovsk territory and mostly originating from countries of Asia-Pacific region - coxsackie A viruses, which might stand for a possible cause of unfavorable epidemiological situation in 2013
