Eye-movement benchmarks in Heritage Language reading

This eye-tracking study establishes basic benchmarks of eye movements during reading in heritage language (HL) by Russian-speaking adults and adolescents of high (n = 21) and low proficiency (n = 27). Heritage speakers (HSs) read sentences in Cyrillic, and their eye movements were compared to those of Russian monolingual skilled adult readers, 8-yearold children and L2 learners. Reading patterns of HSs revealed longer mean fixation durations, lower skipping probabilities, and higher regressive saccade rates than in monolingual adults. High-proficient HSs were more similar to monolingual children, while low-proficient HSs performed on par with L2 learners. Low-proficient HSs differed from high-proficient HSs in exhibiting lower skipping probabilities, higher fixation counts, and larger frequency effects. Taken together, our findings are consistent with the weaker links account of bilingual language processing as well as the divergent attainment theory of HL

The article is devoted to the discussion of the advantages of assessing the environmental comfort of the climate, based on the natural features of the climate and the bioclimatic conditions of the territory. The study assessed the ecological comfort of the climate in the city of Taganrog on the basis of the developed original sequence of performing three stages of assessing the totality of bioclimatic indicators with the final calculation of the values of the integral indicator of the bioclimatic comfort of the climate. The results of the assessment showed, according to the average long-term climatic data, the presence of sub-comfortable climates with a tendency to transition to comfortable climate conditions in the warm period of the year. The cold season was distinguished by uncomfortable conditions according to long-term average climatic data. Modeling calculations of the possible risk to the health of city residents in the presence of concentrations of suspended solids in the surface air layer, together with carbon monoxide, exceeding the maximum one-time values by more than 7 times, showed that the development of possible resorptive or carcinogenic effects in these circumstances will occur in 1/3 the population of the city. The prospects for the assessment of the ecological comfort of the climate, which allow in the future to adequately calculate the magnitude of environmental risks to public health caused by pollution of the surface air layer, are shown

    Comprehensive Disposal of Decommissioned Vehicles

The article concerns the final stage of the life cycle of vehicles (on the example of Russia). The purpose of the study is to develop an organizational scheme for the gradual creation of a unified system for the disposal of all types of vehicles that are out of service. The study included a legal, technical, and territorial analysis. For territorial analysis, statistical data were taken for the following types of transport: buses, trucks and cars. The result of the work is the division of recycling enterprises by recycling levels, namely, the use of classification A, B, C, D. Recycling centers organization is usually considered within the Federal districts, which will lead to the dispersion of recycling capacities throughout Russia. The Federal district will have a radical ring system of organizing recycling centers at different levels. The State should create a unified recycling system with the adoption of regulatory documents on the interaction of participants in the disposal of vehicles, it should involve commercial organizations in recycling activities in future. The prospects of the study suggest 3 options for the placement of warehouses and recycling centers for their effective operation and address the issue of recycling of highly specialized transport. © 2021 Elsevier B.V.. IntroductionEarly linguistic background, and in particular, access to language, lays the foundation of future reading skills in deaf and hard-of-hearing signers. The current study aims to estimate the impact of two factors – early access to sign and/or spoken language – on reading fluency in deaf and hard-of-hearing adult Russian Sign Language speakers.MethodsIn the eye-tracking experiment, 26 deaf and 14 hard-of-hearing native Russian Sign Language speakers read 144 sentences from the Russian Sentence Corpus. Analysis of global eye-movement trajectories (scanpaths) was used to identify clusters of typical reading trajectories. The role of early access to sign and spoken language as well as vocabulary size as predictors of the more fluent reading pattern was tested.ResultsHard-of-hearing signers with early access to sign language read more fluently than those who were exposed to sign language later in life or deaf signers without access to speech sounds. No association between early access to spoken language and reading fluency was found.DiscussionOur results suggest a unique advantage for the hard-of-hearing individuals from having early access to both sign and spoken language and support the existing claims that early exposure to sign language is beneficial not only for deaf but also for hard-of-hearing children

Motivational Elements of the Human Factor for the Implementation of the "vision Zero" Concept in Railway Transport

The paper is devoted to expanding the composition of the studied elements of the human factor that affect the level of industrial injuries. The significant achievements of JSC "Russian Railways" are shown in reducing injuries and the tasks of implementing the "Vision Zero" concept, which can be solved if additional reserves are attracted. The purpose of the paper is to widely include motivational elements in the human factor, which allow approaching the implementation of the concept of zero injuries. An overview of the studied factors of injuries in the industry is given. Based on the conducted research, motivational elements that have an impact on the safety of production processes are identified. The use of the SHELL concept allowed approaching the systematic study of the problem of injury minimization based on the study of the relationship between a person and the organization's resources. Problematic behavioral characteristics of industry employees and ways to solve them are identified. Obtaining an objective picture of the real state of the motivational sphere is possible by using a comprehensive approach with the involvement of additional research results. Research methods: expert, sociological survey, statistical data analysis, comparison, system analysis. As a result, the following conclusions are obtained: the construction of an industry system of personnel motivation in relation to reducing the level of industrial injuries requires the use of research results on the motivational sphere of employees. These results will allow implementing a comprehensive approach, making additions to the mechanisms of management actions to reduce injuries. © 2021 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved

The sensitivity and stability of the response of the PD-sensors based on membranes MF-4SC in K-, H-, Lys-forms in solutions of the reconstituted milk were investigated. A multisensory systems with PD sensors and ion-selective electrodes for the recognition of reconstituted milk containing powdered milk from 0.40 to 8.46 mas. % is developed. The sensitivity of PD-sensors to cations of lysine in the test solutions containing 0.40 wt. % of powdered milk and 1.0·10-3-1.0·10-1 M of LysHCl was 29 mV/рС for membranes in the К-type. The sensitivity of PD-sensors to cations of thiamine in the test solutions containing from 0.40-3.40 wt. % of powdered milk and 1.0·10-4-1.0·10-1 M of ThiaminCl was from 18 to 12 mV/рС for membranes in the К-type. This sensitivity is sufficient for the quantitative determination of cations of lysine and of thiamine in solutions of reconstituted milk. The limit of detection of cations of lysine and thiamine in reconstituted milk was 4.0·10-6 М and 2.9·10-6 М respectively. The relative error of measurement was not more 10 %.Keywords: PD-sensor, Donnan potential, multisensory systems, reconstituted milk, lysine, thiamine(Russian)DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15826/analitika.2013.17.4.008O.
